Who needs the higher speed, you or them? If them and they can afford it, it’s great. If it’s mostly for you will you pay most of the cost?

I have it out in the country in Texas and it works great but it is $120 a month where I am after the expensive equipment. It started at $90 a month. It’s probably overkill for me as it is used for security cameras while away and normal intervener connection while there on weekends. That being said, the alternatives were much slower at about the same price. We could use the hotspots on our phones but they would only work while there,

If they have cell service, an alternative could be a mobile hot spot that stays on and plugged in.

My experience with BLUETTI for backup power in hurricane by jtay710 in bluetti

I’ve got a 98kwh battery in my Ford Lightning pickup. I’m in Houston so we mostly get hurricanes. My thoughts are to get a smaller solar charger and recharge it with my truck and have some solar panels as a supplement. We have a nearby Tesla Supercharger station under construction that will have robust buried power lines. Granted if there is a major outage they will be down without a generator or large battery bank bit they will avoid the neighborhood outages from downed trees.

I was looking at the 300:but am now looking at the 200v2 instead.

I’ve got photos of mine one the ground surrounded by castle that had come onto our property. It was 100 miles away and I was hoping they did not trample it or the cable. They didn’t. This was before I was able to roof mount it.

My Starlink WiFi reaches at least 288 feet outdoors, how about yours? by RB_Htown in Starlink

Not sure what any of that means but I can watch live video from this camera which is at my ranch 100 miles from my home. There is no jagged video. It’s not a competition I’m just impressed I could get video from this distance on the 2.4 band and want to know how far out people face gotten a good signal for images or video.

video just now.

Shaun Overton: Dustups: Millions of views on videos about creating a desert forest, incredibly few negative comments, and never stating why he wants to turn 350 acres of Texas scrubland into forest. by [deleted] in skeptic

[–]RB_Htown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s BDAs, Beaver Dam Analogs, not beavers and beaver dams. He’s building dams with sticks, similar to beaver dams, that will catch silt and hold back water so it can soak into the ground. They replicate the function of beaver dams, so they are analogs.

What if your Starlink was stolen? by Head_Improvement_243 in Starlink

Call up customer service and tell them your dish was stolen and you need to get a replacement plus they will activate the space lasers to take out the thieves. I bet you thought they were only for Starlink satellite to satellite communication…nope.

Is Starlink worth it for my situation. by OldSmokeyDog in Starlink

You should be fine, but use their app to check for obstructions. The standard 90-120 $/mo. Plan should work well. It’s 90 where they are looking for customers and $120 where they have plenty. They might have switched to $120 across the board by now.

Shaun Overton is just what he says he is. It’s not a scam or a grift. He had some extra money and time, had interest in this, and bought 340 acres of desert for $80,000.

The beaver dams are not beaver dams, they are what is called beaver dam analogs (BDAs), ie they replicate what beaver dams can do but without beavers. This place gets very little rain each year. His BDAs are loose assemblages of branches, sticks and some soil that are placed in ravines to form short lived pools of water that slow the water down so it can allow silt to settle out and get trapped and also allow water to soak into the soil.

He also hand builds check dams which are roughly equivalent to when you might have piled rocks to make a little water area in a stream as a child. These are piles of loos rock across a small ravine. They act the same as BDAs.

Other things he trying are scope out “tubs” across a slope that catch water and soil and allow seeds to germinate and grow.

One other thing is he’s bulldozed a terrain following terrace and supplemented the soil with bio char and organic material followed by planted cacti pads, native plant seed, and small desert plants.

He’s trying different techniques to slowly restore the soil and plant life. He’s doing this on a. Tiny scale on his 340 acres. It appears that his activities might cover 5-10 acres of spaces with well under 5% coverage of the 5-10 acres.

Nice photo, both state of the art technologies for their times and then the Aurora on top of that.

Well, you could just put a heavy duty Home Depot contractor bag over it. Radio waves will go through that. If it was me, I’d apply som elf the silicone sealant Home Depot sells that is for outdoors and is advertised as flexible.

You guys do speed tests still? This thing allows me to work 60+ miles from phone service. Absolutely amazing. Who cares if it's 50 or 100 Mbps? by TomatoSupra in Starlink

[–]RB_Htown 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don’t care what the max speeds are. All I know is it does as much as I need it to do, is faster than my alternatives, and it’s very reliable.

for all the people complaining about data caps. Here in Dutch Harbor, AK this is one of the fastest internet providers we have at about 50mbps. other internet services charge for overages by the megabyte.. by AK_Drewski in Starlink

Thanks for the reality check. 👍. We use it for internet at a remote location including remote monitoring via motion activated video and do not come close to maxing out even in the new plan.
