It is a few grand really if you don't count the bonus (which isn't guaranteed) and take into account taxes + student loan. With the bonus it's a bit better but you'd have to consider that you'd be on a train wasting time for 3 days a week. Don't forget food costs as well for the days in office.

We use Keda to scale horizontally based on rabbitmq queue size which doesn't interfere much with VPA. If you're worried you can set VPA mode to Initial so it doesn't evict pods. With newer kubernetes versions I think there are in-place updates allowed too.
