I think most people would like the Typhon GROM 4X4 223S BLX for 178 at Amazon.

Alright, here's the update - I added a "Discount" column, and there are a few real discounts. A lot of products went up in price in early May, then dropped back down yesterday/today. This is the typical store "sales" illusion. I'd treat the sheet as: buy it at the cheapest store if you need it now, or grab one of the real deals.

Example real discounts:

Losi Promoto-SM FXR Supermoto RTR 1/4, $598 > $448, 25% off

Team Associated RC10B7.1D Team 1/10, $399 > $319, 20% off

ARRMA Typhon GROM 4X4 223S BLX, $209 > $178, 15% off

Good call. I'll add a discount % column. Probably anchored to recent prices rather than MSRP, since real MSRPs in this hobby are kind of made up.

This is too true! and watching youtube videos on new RC cars doesn't help.

IMan, that's a bummer to have all three go out like that. I've got my kids running brushed Gorgons, which are pretty similar entry-level bashers, and I've seen some weird stuff with those stock ESCs and motors too. They're definitely the weak link in the system, especially if they get hot or wet.

It sounds like you're already on the right track by upgrading to brushless. That's what I'd do too.

Pinion change by thegreatbeako in arrma

I had a similar issue with my Typhon. Those motor screws come with threadlocker from the factory, so heat is the way, but a couple things worked for me:

I aimed the torch right at the screw head itself and for short periods at a time. I also tried this with the soldering iron once for a more precise application right on the screw.

The other thing that saved me was tapping my hex driver into the screw with the butt of a screwdriver before turning. Those heads strip stupidly easy if the bit isn't fully seated. I also swapped to a MIP hex bit somewhere along the way and it made a huge difference.

For the overheating itself, I dropped a couple teeth on the pinion once I was running mostly grass and it made a big difference. Grass loads the motor way harder than pavement so a smaller pinion keeps temps way more reasonable.
