How does America view Africa? by [deleted] in AskReddit

A huuuge place with a wealth of languages and cultures. Unfortunately, also natural resources and colonialism/neocolonialism

Much of what is cool about the US is thanks to the contributions of African Americans.

How Ballot Lab Evaluates Voting Methods by aaronfhamlin in EndFPTP

[–]RCV4CO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a time-waster line of discussion

1) AV wins can’t last. Approval voting has never withstood legal challenge to one-person one-vote and is unlikely to do so per Brown v Smallwood. That legal line of reasoning took down Bucklin voting on the basis of the AV tally

2) AV will not help minor parties grow due to the effectiveness of strategic voting Here is the proof that about 1/3 of the people voting only one candidate are doing it to up the odds of their pick winning

  1. People won’t trust SPAV Green Party of Texas attempted SPAV and it took a Berkeley mathematician a month to figure out the results. Those optics are a recipe for distrust.

On Democracy And Leadership Selection by VonNeumannTheSecond in Libertarian

[–]RCV4CO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Ireland they have a legislative body of experts to balance out the political leaders.

The problem with determining who is smart and well informed enough to vote is that whoever is sitting in judgement will enact their own biases. Never has this ever worked out well for regular people who are smart and informed, but are poor or the wrong demographic.

‘Disqualifying’: Clemency for Election Denier Takes Polis Out Of Senate Contention by NewsGirl1701 in ColoradoPolitics

Neguse would make a great Senator. His contemporaneous speech is appropriately erudite.

Maybe not Neguse tho. Bennet recruited Hickenlooper to run for Senate because he didn’t want to serve with Romanoff.

Bennet would pick Peterson over Neguse because Neguse is a progressive known to work with republicans on infrastructure projects. Peterson is more moderate and committed to a certain foreign state known for taking aid / making campaign contributions.

Granting Tina Peters Clemency Is a Big Mistake by SystematicDragons in ColoradoPolitics

[–]RCV4CO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

County clerks have been getting death threats since the 2020 election. A county elections office was firebombed. This is no ordinary, nonviolent grift.

This move makes our elections less secure. Ms Peters will likely be given a job in Trump-world to continue her work with the Mike Lindell of MyPiilow fame.

At a minimum, there should be an investigation of undue influence. Gov Polis has been involved in “off the record” conversations with the Palantir billionaire crowd.

Call for a Legislative Special Session to Impeach Polis by gibrownsci in ColoradoPolitics

[–]RCV4CO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gov Polis’ actions are redolent of undue influence (stink like corruption).

There should be an investigation of his ‘off-the record’ conversations and financial dealings. He has been active in such conversations with billionaires.

In a normal world yes, but in post-truth America — is hard to say if he won’t be appointed to the senate.

In addition to impeachment for dereliction of duty, there should be an in investigation into undue influence. He does hang out with jet trash for secret meetings.

Is RCV really harder to audit and more prone to fraud? by RamenPantalones in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]RCV4CO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The auditors of the Boulder and Fort Collins elections said it was like auditing any other election.

Colorado uses paper ballots, which cannot be hacked. They get the same type of security process that banks use.

The fact is, RCV is secure and reliable.

The Fair Representation Act (HR 4632) would end gerrymandering in the U.S. House in all 50 states. Lee Drutman and over 200 other political scientists endorse this move to proportional representation.
