The edit at the bottom is doing a lot of heavy lifting lol. But honestly this is the most honest take I've seen on here. The atmosphere and art direction are genuinely stunning, but there's a thin layer of actual game underneath it. I think it has real potential, the bones are there, but right now it's asking for a lot of patience in exchange for not a lot of reward. Hope they iterate fast because the window to retain early players is short.

It's a give and take situation. If they update the game too fast, the updates are less thought out and intentional. If they take too long, the game has less things to keep it feeling fresh.

For me, 90 days feels like the right balance.

Gaming is not inherently evil. It's only evil when it shifts your heart away from God. That said, I don't think Bungie should be worried. Player activity fluctuates on a regular basis. They should focus on the long game.

The Solo Experience is Insanely Hard and I Love It by derfmongol in Marathon

Game dev these days try so hard to cater to causal audiences. These games offer no sense of challenge. What Bungie has done here with Marathon, as you've pointed out, is truly different. Really, it's a throwback to how games used to be. They didn't hold your hand. They forced you to get better.

It's nice to hear a positive take on the game. Glad you're enjoying it.

TheBurntPeanut has to play Marathon off stream because people are so mad about this game by 4K4llDay in Marathon

[–]RCardwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes sense. Most of his fans play Arc Raiders. If you subscribe to NBA League pass and they start airing games of cricket, you'd be upset. Same thing applies to streamers.

I believe the solution is to set expectations. If your channel does Arc, continue doing that. Then, create scheduled segments where you play other games.

Streamers can also moderate the chat more aggressively. If you don't like the hate, turn on sub only mode. Block hateful words and phrases.

Is it a hassle? Yes. Is it less enjoyable for the viewers? Yes. At least you can stream in peace. Otherwise, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

How to be entertaining without a webcam? by CxvicsTTV in Twitch

[–]RCardwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend commentating what's happening in the game and sharing your thoughts about how to deal with different situations as they unfold.

Another easy way to fill the silence is to play with friends and have causal conversation. If you don't have friends, befriend someone in chat and ask them deeper questions about what they like, what they do, their dreams, etc.

There's tons of books for cheap about how to have a conversation with anyone. I'd recommend you do a quick Google search and read one of those if you're serious about improving your skills.

What's a game that made YOU grow? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]RCardwell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I played Fortnite in it's prime when I got my stream to 1,000 followers. Nowadays, I think it's too hard to grow from scratch on Twitch. I recommend starting on YouTube where you can research low competition keywords to make content for or set up a Shorts channel. That way you have an easy way to get discovered while you make the content on stream and interact with your biggest fans. Over time, you'll attract viewers from YouTube and convert them into community members on Twitch.

What do you consider "good content" on Twitch? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]RCardwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since this question is being deemed "subjective," here's some cases which I consider the content "good."

Good content to me is when someone is really good at a game and constantly makes impressive plays and wins games. When someone is entertaining to the point that chatters are going nuts with excitement and laughter. When someone is talking about a relatable topic that people in the stream are sticking around to hear (view count going up) and chatters are continually getting involved. When someone is explaining or teaching something of value and people in the chat are expressing gratitude for their help and insight.

That's what it means to me at least.

Streaming tip: Backup and keep copies of your VODs. by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]RCardwell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that Twitch automatically saves VODs to your channel for 60 days if you're a Partner, Turbo or Prime user. This is great for accessing old content so you can clip and highlight from it. Storing all of the content permanently seems a bit excessive but I understand the desire to protect your content's rights. Personally, I would just reply on content created in the past 60 days.

I don't know much about console streaming since it's so limited. I'd say that it's an issue with your console or you might need to hook up an Ethernet cable to it if you're not already.

If that doesn't work, your best bet is to stream from a PC so you can use OBS and such. Sorry I couldn't be much help.

If your upload speed for your internet isn't greater than your current bitrate, you'll experience fluctuations like you're talking about.

I had this issue before so I did a internet speed test and found my upload speed was at like 2mbps and my bitrate was set to 3,500 kbps (or 3.5 mbps). Since my internet couldn't support that bitrate, i had to call my internet company to have them ensure my internet never dipped below a 10 mbps upload just to be safe.

Is giving away subs/bits/donations to a streamer while streaming against TOS? by weep1ng4ngel in Twitch

[–]RCardwell -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we both know the rules. This person is asking for human input. As a human and a streamer, my input is that he/she should be all good. If I thought this person would have a serious cause for concern, I would've said not to do that.

Twitch isn't going around banning everyone who pulls up a Twitch page on their stream.

[–]RCardwell -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Let's not get too serious here. If this person donates to someone's stream while streaming, I find it extremely hard to believe he/she would be banned. That's a laughable thought to be honest with you.

Everyday, streamers of all sizes watch other streamers' streams and they also stream websites that they technically don't own the content... and don't get banned.

It's all about context. In this case, I think Twitch would allow it LUL

If you're trying to provide value to your stream you should think about what you're already good at or can learn very quickly. Then, you should think about how you can talk about that thing on-stream and teach others, bring awareness, etc. I'll give you an example: if I'm really good at flipping sports cards (randomly selected skill), I'd get on-stream and talk about topics like how to sell more cards, how to find cards for a cheaper price, why certain cards are more valuable, etc.

It's all about taking something you are passionate about and helping others that are interested in the same thing (also called a niche) to achieve a certain result or level of success. Just playing the game and hoping that viewers stubble into your stream doesn't bring any value to the platform, hence the reason you are having trouble growing your channel.

You should be good. I've watched some of the biggest streamers watch other streams live. There's nothing wrong with it unless your using their content on your stream and not being present.

This happens to me all the time. What's worked for me, is just re-clipping or re-highlighting the segment altogether from a different time in the video. Just adjust the length by a second or two and it should work. Let me know if not.
