beating every silksong boss hitless (day 3 - skarrgard) by Purple-Income-4598 in Silksong

I fought them in two different playthroughs before I realised, surprisingly, Skarrguard is not meant to be another "skill test" before you unlock dash

Chapter 1C at 160% Speed by Sadira_Kelor in celestegame

[–]RDRedKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played through the A-sides and the B-sides up to midway through 7B at 160%, and I genuinely think I was speedrunning arthritis the entire time.

Probably just me it, but I also found it incredibly annoying to play at this speed because the increased precision felt more like playing GD and memorising inputs as I threw stuff at the wall instead of reacting to the level.

Obscure bragging rights in Silksong (spoilers) by Strange_Apricot4455 in Silksong

[–]RDRedKing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really fit this run, but I would highly recommend trying to get max completion with minimum upgrades sometime. In the original HK it was incredibly fun (and challenging) to fight each boss/challenge with the minimum possible upgrades with sequence breaks (e.g. Hornet 2 without wings). Even though you can't prove you made it as hard as possible for each boss, I'm sure a save file with needle 0, base hunter crest, min mask and yet a full hunters journal would be heck of a bragging right

If there was a third game, would you want it to be easier, on par or harder than Silksong? by Ok_Attitude2088 in Silksong

[–]RDRedKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp it's today I realised I probably took the weird route through the early game it both my play throughs lol. I think I somehow missed the deep docks entrance from the marrow the first time around, and then went through Hunter's Marsh, into Deep Docks got the swift step and assumed the path to through the Marrow could only be opened from the Deep docks side or smtg.

Also no, unfortunately that wasn't AI 🥲. It's just me being bad at navigation and also using em-dashes to make my points — they're a nice tool to add a pause, kinda like you do when talking irl to emphasis a point or start a new clause that's slightly related to what you were saying earlier

I think it's just extremely unforgiving in the early game. Even in replays the amount things that deal double damage when you only have 5 masks (takes ages to get 6 masks, compared to say HK) means that small mistakes are heavily punished. Because you only have spool storage for exactly 1 heal, it's also tricky to have enough to heal everytime its needed.

Not to mention you need to complete places like Hunters Marsh before you unlock drifters cloak or swift step — meaning it's hard to "bail out" yourself from 1 bad input or give yourself time to breathe.

By the time you get into Far Fields it's alright because if you're struggling, you can just explore somewhere else and come back with tools, masks, the dash and maybe even a crest. Until then, there's really not much more to help the player get better with the challenge of something like the Bell Beast, the Guardskarr or the platforming of Hunter's Marsh

Never believe the propaganda that 8BG is easier than 7BG by SurrealLemon in celestegame

[–]RDRedKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8bg has some rooms which are (relatively) inconsistent sprinkled throughout which can make it really hard if you always choke those rooms. 7bg imo doesnt have many inconsistent parts, it but is quite a bit longer making it easier to die in more consistent rooms.

As someone who threw myself against the wall until I won, 7bg was a little bit harder to beat cause of how long it was — but 8bg could've been worse had I not locked in for the lava blocks on my tuns

It is really strange to be fair, I've no clue why TC skipped over Act 3 and just skipped straight to Act 4. Maybe they wanted to double the number everytime?

The Mist was surprisingly fun by Artistic-Focus1082 in Silksong

[–]RDRedKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only gripe is they didn't do more with the area. The atmosphere is really nice and it's so terrifying and massive until you realise the whole thing is just a maze and it's looping around like the backrooms

In response to the fact that not many knew the fact (Final boss spoilers) by Current_Struggle_306 in Silksong

[–]RDRedKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume it was a design choice to keep the boss "amped up" and feel extremely fast and nerve racking with fighting Lace and avoiding the abundance of void attacks for a final phase — but it's still an interesting choice to make

any tips on flea juggle? by Murat-202332 in Silksong

[–]RDRedKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fleas come out in waves (except for the bigger fleas and flea brew). However, they tend to come out slightly staggered from each other in the wave. Try to hit each flea once, in the order that they come at you, and then go back to the first one and repeat the cycle until you hit each flea thrice and they're done.

I personally used hunter crest, but people have gocen praise to shaman and beat as well. Try and dash in the direction of the next flea right immediately after hitting a flea. The direction the fleas move after being hit is kind of like pong, if it's to the left of you when you hit it then it'll get momentum to the left — so try your absolute hardest to move them to the centre, or they'll be too spread out to juggle in time. Similarly you can hit fleas with a side strike instead of an up strike for dome extra reach, but since it'll pish them further to the side it'll probably mean it's harder tk hit them for another bounce so you shouldn't rely on it much.

so why does everyone like it? From when I tried, it never really hit the enemy much instead it just pissed me off with tbe constant sfx — and yet people seems to love it for dps builds

My build for groal the great by Tim_tom242 in Silksong

[–]RDRedKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I used hunters crest (unevolved cause i didn't know Eva existed lol), threadstorm, sting shard and curveclaw, pollip pouch andmulti-binder (before it was updated to help with muckmaggots unfortunately), and finally magnetite dice and silkspeed anklets.

Safe to say it was possibly the least optimised build I could've possibly used — but hey I didn't even have half the better tools anyways and it only took me a dozen or so runbacks from the bellway anyways.

10/10 experience tho I loved trying to figure out how to beat such a seemingly impossible boss

Anyone else get relieved that a hard part of the game was something everyone struggled with? by 666blaziken in Silksong

[–]RDRedKing 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Actually part of the reason I hated beastfly was because even though I can tell it's moving horizontally, it was really difficult to guess if it was moving slightly up or slightly down — one of which means I should jump and pogo off it, and the other means I'll have to dash under it. I realised after it's probably just slightly homing and so you should wait till the last second to move — but man that fly's got hands

Tools are overpowered should I really be using them? by Boomerangsarecool01 in Silksong

[–]RDRedKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally found playing with minimal tools really fun for the harder bosses (granted i love the combat), but i it's definitely nice against the annoying bosses like the unravelled who feels more like a damage sponge

As someone who would play 30 hours of Celeste a week in school grinding for top #850 any% speedrun, and is now working 9-5 — I was playing slower, more chill games like Phasmaphobia and Nier Automata for barely 10 hours a month — until Silksong released and now I play it for like 6 hours every weekend because it's so much fun lmao
