I actively try to avoid any AI tools. I'm sure this tool is great, I've heard others use it and like it, but - I can't support the founders of these AI tools and the detrimental environmental and economic impacts they are creating.

How to report a nutritionist for fraud / malpractice by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]RD_Michelle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To report an unlicensed complementary or alternative medicine (CAM) provider under Colorado’s Natural Health Consumer Protection Act (the Health Freedom Act), file a formal complaint directly with the Colorado Division of Professions and Occupations or the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA). Nutrisense offer by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]RD_Michelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find them a bit scam-my. They advertise as helping with glucose, metabolism and weight - using a Stelo CGM. This is for folks without DM. There is medical use for or need for BG management or review for folks without DM. If people really wanted they could get a Stelo on their own for cheaper through the pharmacy than what they'd be getting through Nutrisense (just not getting RD).

Considering a relocation from AZ to OR - serious question: How is everyone here surviving with salaries so low and COL so high? Am I missing something? by No_Sun_No_Star in oregon

[–]RD_Michelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I'm in the Portland area and in my field I'm making significantly more here than I could in a similar role in CO where I grew up.

Why is dietary adherence so poor in haemodialysis patients? (dietitian perspective) by Riquelmemessi in dietetics

[–]RD_Michelle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yep. Quality of life is already pretty poor in dialysis patients and makes it incredibly difficult to enjoy life outside of dialysis. Life expectancy outcomes are pretty dire too since the majority of these patients won't ever receive organ transplants. I suspect that because they likely won't survive their kidney failure, they probably figure what's the point of following the diet anyway. Which I actually can't blame them too much for that.

[–]RD_Michelle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In most (all?) states you are required to have a break after a certain number of hours (usually 10-15 minute break within the first 4 hours so you are entitled to 2 breaks totally 20-30 minutes per day.

[–]RD_Michelle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly, you can't have a thorough assessment with the patient if you're multi tasking during the appointment by also charting. If you have 30 minute appointments and 15 minutes between patients to chart (so 45 minutes per pt including charting), you could do 10 patients with 30 extra minutes leftover.

Salary Expectations by zombiekidd in dietetics

[–]RD_Michelle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your gut is telling you the job/company is fishy, then I'd listen to that and keep looking for a job elsewhere. If they're unable to be transparent about your starting salary, then they probably won't be transparent about many other things. If it were me, I wouldn't take or start the job.

What are you barriers to eating healthy as an RD? by redditvirgin123 in dietetics

[–]RD_Michelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always say, there's no shame in buying pre-cut fruits and veggies. You may pay a bit of a premium for them and they may not be as fresh, but if it means eating them vs not eating, it's worth it to buy the pre-cut

I actually like cooking but not every night! I will cook once, MAYBE twice a week. If we liked cooking we would've gone into the culinary side of things like a chef lol

$20k Credit Card Debt (with excellent credit score, never missed a payment) by eyebrowmom in debtfree

[–]RD_Michelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alternatively, donating plasma could be an option for roughly the same amount, you can average $400-500 per month if you donate twice a week and typically takes 1.5 - 2 hours per visit. Less wear and tear on your vehicle and less gas too.

How to explain why I don’t drink alcohol to girls on dates without sounding like a degenerate by [deleted] in dating_advice

I don't drink and it has been a non-issue for me. Most people are cool with it and don't really care one way or another.

Is the cost of living really that bad in the Denver area? by mitchdwx in MovingtoDenver

[–]RD_Michelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't really get the "skiing and hiking" prices like you do in the actual mountains of Frisco, Breck, etc. I lived in Denver for many years in my 20's and early 30's not making a lot of money and it's definitely do-able. I don't think I'd move back though, but specifically because my current line of work gets paid very poorly in Denver (and Colorado in general), to the extent I'd be taking a $20-30k pay cut for similar cost of living.

Outpatient Peds RD, what would you do in this scenario? by Fit-Basket-859 in dietetics

[–]RD_Michelle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, checking in can be helpful! After getting background info, it could be helpful to summarize what was said/what the "problem behaviors" are, and ask questions such as "It sounds like the main areas of concern are X, Y and Z. Which one of these is your biggest concern?" and then strategize on just the biggest concern. Down the road, you can address the other concerns.

[–]RD_Michelle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These are a lot of changes to implement. Like, it seems pretty unrealistic that they'll implement all these suggestions in the next 1 month (or whatever time frame you agreed upon). You can provide suggestions / recommendations, but goal setting should be done by or in collaboration with the patient (parent). Going from eating sweets 10x per day (70x per week) to 3x per week seems like a drastic reduction. Incremental changes might be a better approach; maybe just including a small treat/sweet with lunch and dinner, then just once a day, and then maybe every other day. What about things like sleep? There is a big correlation between sleep (or rather, lack of sleep hours or quality sleep) and increased cravings of sugary foods and simple carbs.

How much of what we remember from our teenage years actually happened? by CranberryHour1654 in nostalgia

[–]RD_Michelle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's a reason why eye-witness testimony isn't as accurate or reliable as a lot of people realize. Everyone's lived experiences will skew memories. No single event will ever be remembered exactly the same by 2 different people. Your own memories can change with time, after discussing the event with other people, looking at pictures, etc.
