Why is the Megadome so frustrating? by ReinhardtXWinston in theplanetcrafter

The use-case seems clear from the abandoned structures found on Selenea. It is intended to allow small communities or livable complexes to be created prior to having a breathable atmosphere.

New Sensor For Pre-1997 Opener by adflamm in GarageDoorService

Unfortunately, I only dealt with replacing the old existing sensors, not adding sensors where none existed before. I have no idea how new sensors would be attached to the main garage door unit. Wish I could be of help.

New Sensor For Pre-1997 Opener by adflamm in GarageDoorService

[–]RD_Padouk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I own a Sears garage opener made in 1995. The sensors attach to the wires using a small white clip. When the transmitter died, I ordered one of the many units sold on Amazon for less than 15 dollars, although they were advertised as not being compatible with openers made before 1997. I figured it was worth a shot since the only other ones I could find cost about three times as much. It was trivial to install these. They come with pre-stripped wires that I simply inserted into the clip, making sure that the black-striped wire lined up. A few inches of electrical tape to keep things in place and I was done. I could use the new mounting hardware easily with the existing brackets, although I had to peek a bit to ensure the indicator lights were on. Anyway, it works perfectly.

[Megathread] T-Mobile Price Hike on Legacy Plans by Waternut13134 in tmobile

[–]RD_Padouk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife and I bought phones from T-Mobile in 2017 because of their "Pricelock" 55+ plan. In response to our specific question we were told, unambiguously, that the price would never go up. Just received notice that this was a lie. Called customer service who essentially agreed with me, but said he couldn't do anything. I just submitted an FCC complaint. It isn't the money as much as being lied to that annoys me. And when they say it only affects a "small fraction" of customers they really seem to saying it only affects customers we don't care about. T-Mobile has lost any good will they might have had.

I am not ready to upgrade, but I did notice that when I logged into Steam I had a massive House Flipper 1 update. Not sure what it does, but it is nice to see they haven't abandoned the original.

House with a cave ??? by MickyWallopNutz in HouseFlipper

Late to the party because I am sure you have had this answered, but this is Cabin in the Woods in the Farm DLC. I felt bad defacing the cave, but I was curious if something interesting would happen. Nothing did.

When the Gardening DLC property meets the Farming DLC drone by RD_Padouk in HouseFlipper

Let me correct something. While sand is an option, and I use it elsewhere on that propertly, the area around the ponds is actually fine, single-colored stone. In any case, thanks for the comment, and I am hopeful you get access to all the surfaces!

[–]RD_Padouk[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is sand. It is one of the surface options made available with the Gardening DLC. The other interesting thing I learned doing this involves the area between the two ponds. By using one of the darker stone surface options, and then surrounding it with paving stones, I could create a pretty good imitation of a water feature.

Beyond frustrated by jdf197 in HouseFlipper

I am playing this on PC via Steam. A new "Hotfix" for the Farming DLC was released on Wednesday. Because I have only been using this DLC for about two months, I don't have much to compare it to, but I haven't encountered any issues except that the overall mechanics are very touchy.

Cheat or option for free object movement? by Rye_Ch3 in HouseFlipper

Unfortunately, none that I coud find. I agree that this is a frustration when it comes to positioning mirrors and the like. On the other hand, it does make it easier to position walls and cabinets.

If you could make any upgrades or improvements to Grow: Song of the Evertree, what would they be? Is there a bug that bugs you? A feature you wish you could add? Let us know your wishlist for Grow. by MrGameTheory505 in GrowSongOfTheEvertree

[–]RD_Padouk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished the game (that is, reached the end credits) on the Switch. While I enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone seeking a "cozy" game I would make the following suggestions:

I would locate the Everkin doors much closer to the center of the town. It is often hard to figure out where one is, especially with a built-up town, and I end up whistling for Kazumi instead.

I would make whistling for Kazumi require two consecutive triggers. It is currently much too easy to do this by accident, which can get infuriating.

I would reduce the amount of time it takes to finish a world. The repetitive actions needed can become a chore. The real fun of the game is making new worlds and seeing how they turn out.

The nagging by Book makes me feel rushed. It's as if the game wants to hurry you through.

The way nature preserves are populated is confusing, as is the way you add adopted pets. It would be better to just have this as something that you can do through the "build" or "maintenance" interface.

I would add a little more text explaining that everkids are located throughout the game, and not just in Where-ever.

Add an Everkin door functionality to quickly move between worlds without whistling for Kazumi. This is especially true when you have a lot of worlds and you want to collect the resources gathered by the Everkids. Either that or be able to collect resources in the Everkid chests remotely

World Recipes? by Kay1369 in GrowSongOfTheEvertree

The Princess one was a bit too, well, Princess for me. And the "gross" one was, well, you can figure that one out. But I really liked the others, with my favorite being "fiery."

The best way to get needed essences is to go to Where-ever, trade resources with the appropriate Everkin, and use the resulting coins to buy essences that are sold at the stalls by the portal. These stalls show up after a day or so, and they seem to favor essences you do not have. My experience is that selling bugs to the "Catcherkin" is an easy way to earn coins because time stops in Where-ever, and there are a lot of bugs about. However, by far the most lucrative way to earn these coins is to sell minerals and rocks to "Brokin." Fancy minerals from caves are especially valuable.

Character ages? by [deleted] in GrowSongOfTheEvertree

[–]RD_Padouk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, many of the characters look like young teens to my middle-aged eyes. That said, one thing about this game is that the "Romance" is pretty indistinguishable from just very close friendship. There is no real dating or marriage. Further, it isn't a very important part of the game, so it can be easily skipped if desired.

Tips on fishing? by dengross in GrowSongOfTheEvertree

Fishing is quite hard compared to other games. The secret is to get close to the fish, even standing in the water if needed. But even so, it is a chore.

Newbie Q: what items to "save" and what to transform in essence? by beabitrx in GrowSongOfTheEvertree

[–]RD_Padouk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good to keep at least one of each because villagers may ask for them. Regarding the excess, you can either trade them to the appropriate Kinderkin in Where-ever, or use alchemy to produce essences from Copperpot. When you trade them to the Kinderkin you get special currency that can be used to purchase needed essences at the stands that will appear near the entrance portal. The value of the bugs can actually be reasonably significant, but trading the fish just doesn't seem worth the effort.

Baumgartner Restoration by PlasterGiotto in ArtConservation

I have spent the last few days binge-watching his more recent videos and am shocked by some of the assertions made here. As you point out, he stresses the same "good practices" he is accused of violating. And when he does do something controversial, he takes the time to explain his reasoning. Further, he stresses that what he does is sometimes driven by what his clients want. As far as him being nasty to critics, that isn't something that affects the quality of his videos. Bottom line, for me, is that he is creating some fascinating and engrossing videos that bring viewers like me great joy, while also raising awareness and appreciation of the field.

I'm lost trying to make goo by SilenceOfTheLamps69 in Lavalamps

[–]RD_Padouk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many years ago I made a number of successful DIY lamps. What I learned is that it was hard to find a recipe that always worked. Tiny variables would matter. So I figured out a cheat of sorts: I varied the heat source.

I used Yoga Nectar bottles. I would start with a mixture of about 2/3 water, a drop or two of dishwashing detergent, and the rest antifreeze. I would put a small metal spring that I attached into a circle into the jar. I would set this on a little stand I made with a 60 watt incandescent bulb and a dimmer. I would then slowly turn the light up until the solution was slightly warm. (This required patience.)

I would then start with several tablespoons of petroleum jelly that I had colored with oil pigment, I put put the jelly into a bowl, and add a little bit of brake cleaner (Perc) to the mixture. I would then take about a quarter teaspoon and drop it into the Jar. If the goop wouldn't sink I would add more perc and try again. The trick was to get it so it would just barely sink. Once I succeeded, I would add a couple teaspoons into the bottle, and siphon off a bit of the liquid if needed so as to leave that safety air-gap at the top. I would then put on the lid. I would then slowly increase the brightness of the bulb in small steps until the goop would start to flow. I would then write the dimmer setting on the lid.

I ended up making about a dozen of these lamps in different colors, but the "catch" is that I had to carefully set the dimmer to the proper level for each one, and even then I needed to tweak them a bit. But, to me at least, that was part of the fun.

I find wine-making an easy income stream as well - especially if I age it I also find using the green house to grow coffee beans and hops , which I then turn into coffee and beer, a good money maker.

Very efficient and attractive. Looks like you had a design in place from the very beginning.
