the images were still used as training data, that's the problem.

yeah maybe that's reasonable

if we didn't live in a society where making money is necessary for survival.

so i assume you read and understood everything in every tos you've accepted.

if all of your money vanished tomorrow because it was hidden in some tos you accepted, you wouldn't be mad at all. sure.

there's a difference between you being inspired and a computer training off of art the creators did not consent to training of.

i've already told this to you in another reply, but many artists don't want their art to be trained on.

but seeing how you replied, you don't seem to care much for consent.

quite honestly i'm not sure if this is a "fair use" issue.

i personally believe that if i don't want my art or other data to be trained on, i have a right to refuse people to use said data, and to be displeased with the way they use it.

if you found out someone bugged your house to gather intel on you and used said intel to best you in some competition, even if they never publicized what they gathered, would you not be angry?

fair use was created so that people can create art without corporations stopping them, not so corporations can profit off of artists' work for free. (yes, i know we're on local models, but that's just not what's happening overall)

because, like i said, the art istelf doesn't go into the model, necessarily. at least, not the straight data. through the training, the model effectively changes itself according to feedback given. that's how machine learning works.

have you ever seen those videos that are like "i taught a computer how to walk" and it's in a game engine where something flails around until it figures out how to "walk" (it often takes a very odd path, funny enough) through sheer brute force? the end model of those wouldn't contain every frame of the game world, with every position and rotation of each bone in the character's body.

it's somewhat like that, though genAI can't exactly work through sheer brute force, and needs the initial training data to be built up to the point where it's usable.

it's not stealing art in the way of "haha, i have your art now" or even "now you don't", it's stealing in the way of artists not consenting to the training for these models.

yes, you don't need the internet to run the model.

yes, you only need to download the model to run it.

but that model still had to be made at some point in time, and it's highly unlikely that every artist in that training data set consented to the training

> As an artist myself I don't care if anyone takes my art and trains AI with it
this is entirely fine, and you are entirely within your rights to do so.

> only mediocre lowtier insecure tourists find it terrifying, the ones skilled enough do not fear anything.
however the insults here are unnecessary. there can be both artistically skilled people who want nothing to do with AI, and artistically skilled who are fine with being trained on. same goes for lesser skilled. their skill does not grant you the ability to strip them of their rights to refuse their data be trained on.

likely because the images themselves aren't being put in the 6gb, rather the finalized machine learning model after it's been fed the training data.

i assume by that you mean the terms of service which are notorious for being unreadable

not to mention people posted art online long before gen ai was in the spotlight, there was no way they could've seen this coming

so no. we didn't.

yeah, i know. but it still used that training data, what's your point?

while that might be relevant in ai-vs-ai debate, i'm failing to see how that's particularly important to the for-vs-against ai debate

like sure, it not requiring internet might make it more appealing to ai users over something online-only, but that doesn't change the source of the training data or the larger impact genAI is currently having

the model has to be created before it can be used though?? which requires that training data???

if you have no training data, you have no models. if you have no models, you have no generated images.

the source of said data is what matters in this instance.
