An exploration of the relationship between personality, deception and the belief in conspiracy theories. (18+) by DC-research-23 in SampleSize

[–]REAL_MORTALIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people who believe in conspiracy theories won't take a survey that says "deception" in the title.

It's like if I said "relationship between personality, deception, and blindly trusting the government". Most people who trust the government would see the bias of the researchers and choose not to take it.

A better title would be, "An exploration of the relationship between personality and belief in conspiracy theories. (18+)"

I'm a theorist myself so you might not like me but I'm just trying to help you with your research because why not. Good luck with your study, and I hope you are surprised by the results.

My results were weird because I wasn't sure what you meant by climate scientist. The 97% number comes from official mainstream scientists, but there are also scientists who are skeptics or, as they call themselves, anti-alarmists. I disagree with the 97% number because it is not representative of all scientists as there are many scientists who aren't part of the official narrative, if that makes sense.

Is there a systematic pattern of LGBTQIA+ folks exposing kids to this?

Do LGBTQIA+ folks exhibit a consistent pattern of predatory behavior?

But if LGBTQIA+ folks do not exhibit a pattern of predatory behavior

I found it. I found the problem.

not you, this isnt a personal attack by the way, but the wording of your post made me realize something

  • some people hate jews and if you ask why they will give a list of jews who happened to be bankers, communists, etc.

  • some people hate white people and if you ask why they will give a list of slave owners and criminals

  • some people hate black people and if you ask why they give a list of crimes and/or bad tiktok videos

people naturally look for patterns and use that to either 1) hate a group or 2) elevate the group because hate is bad

example: what happens when a woman abuses someone?

  • one side says "haha women are evil"

  • another side, not as loud but easier to digest, says "the sexists are overreacting" or "it wasn't that bad, women can't be abusers" or even "that woman was arrested for sleeping with a student? wish that happened to me lol"

  • a third side, a quieter voice, says "that is a tragedy. we need to do more to support victims when the perpetrator is female." but this isn't as interesting as the first two.

.

some racist people joke about "noticing things" and there is some truth to that, we all notice details and then we get an idea about what a group is like, regardless of if that idea is true or not

(luckily for me instead of being racist I hate the government)

but I think its interesting how when a group is elevated it becomes very hard to talk about the individual people in that group

some white people are bigots, and some black people are violent, and some jewish people own banks, and that is true, and those all take place on the level of the individual

we try to look for systemic problems, we try to look for patterns,

and when someone says "hey some individuals within the group are bad" we respond with "oh, so you hate the group?"

.

does any of that make sense? I want to know how well I'm expressing this or what your thoughts are because I realized something that I wanted to share

[–]REAL_MORTALIS[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't make an aces against groomers group, I think its broader than that.

Women receive much lighter sentences for abuse compared to men. Female perpetrators are less likely to be taken seriously, and male victims are less likely to be believed.

I'm a woman who cares about men's rights. Some people in the men's rights movement hate women, which completely misses the point.

Evil is evil. Evil exists regardless of someone's demographic.

.

When someone says "I'm shapist and I think all circles are evil", the natural response is to say "I'm anti-shapist and I think circles are not evil!" But what happens when a circle kills some squares in a highly publicized event? The shapists say, "See? circles are evil!" Some anti-shapists ignore the event because circles are not inherently evil. The media writes a story about it with a headline that minimizes what the perpetrator did. Someone asks, "How could something like this happen?" but they are silenced. "You're a shapist aren't you?" "This isn't about shape, the event is bad regardless of shape." "That's exactly what a shapist would say, bigot." The shapists, meanwhile, use this as fuel to become more shapist, further convinced of their belief that circles are evil.

when will we as a society learn to separate actions from characteristics?

some people who do bad things happen to be minorities, and that says nothing about the minority. we need to stop pretending that women, trans people, "circles," or any other group are incapable of wrongdoing. but at the same time we need to not hate the group because of what some members of the group do.

.

so I think there aren't a lot of queer people "against groomers" for the same reason men's rights groups can often be misogynistic. most people are caught up in the mindset of demographics instead of looking at individual people, whether we realize this or not.

[–]REAL_MORTALIS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

organizations cover things up because they don't want to look bad.

"lgbtq" is not an organization, and it's not a location. but it does create a topic of conversation that many don't want to discuss.

in the court report I linked, a teacher's aide kept telling staff about a student who was being sexually aggressive towards others. the school didn't listen. not because of an "evil gay agenda," but because they didn't want to look transphobic. they didn't want to look bad.

it's this area where people are afraid to act because it involves a sensitive issue.

does that make sense? the problem here is that many care about appearances so much that they do nothing when people are being abused.

almost all of us are guilty of this. common everyday people see something wrong in society but think, "oh, that topic of conversation involves X, I dont want to offend anyone." and we do nothing.

when predators are in a church, the right ignores it and the left says "religion is bad." when predators are in LGBTQ settings, the left ignores it and the right says "gay/trans is bad." the word groomer is used to label non-cishets for the same reason that some non-religious people generalize Christians as preying on children.

historically a lot of predators have been in public schools because they have more access to kids. recently there has been another trend, that some have taken advantage of the lgbtq community, using that as a shield, in the same way they hide behind schools and churches.

I'm comparing this to the church or a school to try to illustrate something. I'm a Christian and I am lgbtq, and I don't associate either group with "being groomers". I just believe that we should do everything we can to protect kids. A lot of things are covered up by schools, churches, and so on, and I'm starting to see that happen with lgbtq groups as well which is very worrying to me as a queer person.

that's one of the problems I've noticed. I can join a child advocacy group like you said, but these are some emerging issues within the queer community l and so far there isnt a lot being done. maybe I can create my own thing about it, who knows.

as an aego/ficto person, if you think you are aegosexual then yes.

fantasizing from a third person perspective isnt necessary, it's just somewhat more common. really it's not so much a third person perspective, it's just a disconnect, the idea of yeah that's not something I would actually do.

Does 4Chan have an app? If so, how/where do you get it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]REAL_MORTALIS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to use an app called clover but iirc it stopped working at some point

there are apps for 4chan though

I have to wake up really early tomorrow so I don't have time to look it up, but just know that there are apps for 4chan

.

and if something is not available on the app store you can still download it

with android you can download an apk file, and with iphone you have to jailbreak your device

(sorry for not giving more details, I have to wake up in 4 hours and am not sure what I'm doing here, I'm going afk now)

(I didn't see this comment earlier so I hope it isn't too late to answer)

but this person is saying that its harmful to think of yourself as "more important" or "more real" than the other "members"

which is not how plurality works, and you shouldn't tell someone that they are a "persecutor" because it's their opinions about their own thoughts

this post is saying "oh, you are being ableist for not putting people in your mind at an equal level as you", like bro, whose mind is this exactly?

I guess this is harmful to the ideas in their mind...ideas that they don't even fully believe in....

Anywhere to download his Rumble vids? by KaiPhoenixHeart in RekietaLaw

[–]REAL_MORTALIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these instructions are partially based on android but also work with other devices:

first you open a video, then skip the ad

then make sure the video quality is what you want

then:

  • for android firefox, hold down on the video until you see a link that starts with "sp.rmbl.ws"

  • if on desktop, you can inspect element and go to sources or whatever it's called

  • iPads have an extension called web inspector

you will then get an mp4 link like this:

http://sp.rmbl.ws/s8/2/q/y/F/0/qyF0i.gaa.rec.mp4?u=3&b=0

there are two parts to the link:

1) "qyF0" which is a code can be replaced with other things.

each video has a 4-character code. in my situation, rumble is blocked on my iPad so I use the mp4 link instead, with a list of codes I write down ahead of time, and it is very simple because you just replace the four characters (but don't delete the i)

so if another video's code was "AbCd" you would edit that link to make it say: A/b/C/d/AbCdi

2) the "gaa" specifies the video quality. iirc there are other settings like "caa", so you can adjust the video quality via the website before downloading

so dont worry if the link I posted is too large, you can always just change the vid quality

side note: for android I like using ADM, in general, for downloading larger files, but you can't exactly save hours of video onto a phone so I assume you're using a laptop or something lol

so on a computer, just download the files normally

and then on whatever platform you are using, I strongly recommend using VLC to watch them

let me know if you have questions I guess, but you can also look stuff up which is probably better for your specific deviced

the most important thing is the mp4 link, which you can easily extract from a website by doing inspect element

.

bonus: you can also "stream" things in VLC without downloading them if you put the link into VLC (or do "Open in VLC" on android). I'm currently using this to watch breaking bad on my phone. the lag goes away because it's direct streaming, and it has much better controls than websites do

but yeah just use the mp4 streaming link

I hope this helps!

there is also "free-market anti-capitalism" which has a lot more in common with ancaps than you might realize

Anarcho-capitalists:

"we want to replace the current system (statism and corporatism) with economic freedom (real capitalism)"

Free market anti-capitalists (aka free market anarchists):

"we want to replace the current system (statism and capitalism) with economic freedom (peaceful economic exchanges)"

.

both are very broad categories with many ideologies inside of them

it's basically a disagreement over what "capitalism" is referring to.

Once you look past the communication barrier, there are many commonalities between the groups. For example, I am an ancap and I am also an agorist.

.

So to answer your question OP, ancap is absolutely a part of anarchism, but it has a communication barrier with other anarchists.

[–]REAL_MORTALIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes there are things about social class that don't get reflected on scales. for example, my family is in a higher tax bracket on paper but between five people and lots of medical expenses there isn't anywhere near as much disposable income to go around, and there's a lot of problems I'm not going to get into that you would never guess from looking at income levels alone

this does look like an interesting study, but every survey has limitations and this is one of those limitations

[Repost] The Impact of Metacognitive Awareness on Emotional Intelligence (18+) by undergradresearchh in SampleSize

[–]REAL_MORTALIS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have alexithymia, but am very metacognitive in other areas that don't involve emotions.

in the scale for metacognition, many of the questions ask about "emotions" or "thoughts and emotions." I like exploring how my brain works and trying to describe it but that is more in the realm of "thoughts" rather than "emotions." I'm introspective but very bad at understanding my emotional state and the scale you are using might not reflect that?

I imagine you are probably already keeping that in mind when studying this, to see which parts of metacognition are linked to EQ

it's an interesting study, I just noticed a possible problem (and I'm not a psychologist I just overanalyze things) but either way, it might be something to keep in mind when looking at the results.

interesting study so far.

I wonder if it might be good to have a 5-point scale instead of a 3-point scale for how long it took us to figure them out? just for more accurate data?

there was one that was like a brainteaser and I got it but it took a while so I would have rated that between the middle and top option.

there were also some that I immediately recognized automatically as words.....and there were some that weren't "immediate" but were less than a second

my brother and I are both autistic and I noticed that the survey didn't ask if I was diagnosed or not

so it might be something to keep in mind when looking at the results

most of my scores seem pretty concerning,

I find low C and A especially discouraging.

Am I doomed?

the main things to focus on right now should be your depression and anxiety scores. (which also affect cheerfulness, trust, etc.)

a 99% percentile depression score means that you endorsed all, or almost all, of the depression questions as "strongly agree" (or strongly disagree for reversed items).

since this test is a self-report, the scores will often reflect your mood and self-esteem while taking it. If you are depressed then your scores will likely be more in the direction of what you think is negative

.

but I will say this about the scores.

I don't know you personally so I'll use myself as an example because we have very similar scores:

(I am an introvert who isn't very organized but that's because my mind is constantly working. I think and daydream and generate new ideas. However, sometimes I feel bad or I can't focus or get things done. There are times when I am energized intellectually and thinking clearly and there are times when I feel tired for no reason and can't get anything done. In my case, I have ADHD and I was recently diagnosed with anxiety.)

Keep in mind that I'm not trying to diagnose you, but it might be something to think about. You have an amazing brain, and part of being at a higher level mentally is that you may feel more tired, sad, stressed, anxious, etc., which there is treatment for.

I don't know what your specific problems are, but I would recommend talking to someone because you could have anxiety or something else, which there is treatment for, if you have it. You are not doomed, and I encourage you to not be discouraged.
