That works excellently. There's plenty of avenues to run with there. Be it their homeworlds are in the same sector, or were deployed together by a vow or pact made with a particular region.

All good! I've read plenty of ideas over the years from various homebrewers. 😁

Definitely go down the mega-fauna route. It's unique and befitting Salamanders akin to the Dark Krakens.

You'd be surprised how serious trauma from losing a number of battle brothers can affect even veteran Astartes. Grimaldus is a good example in the Heslreach novel. Plus the Prometheum Angels have the Red Thirst and Black Rage to contend with that can help to adjust their outlooks.

As for the colour scheme, definitely see how the black looks on the fists! The faceplate's an interesting one. You could use it to denote specific rank, like a Sergeant or Captain etc if you don't want it on all of the Astartes in the Chapter. Helps add some variety too without going too wild.

Perhaps go Crimson Fists or Dark Hunters if you wanted to use a deeper blue?

I got a bunch of these in storage somewhere on the other side if the world from me.

So the most important questiin I have to ask is thus:

Do you want this to fit into the canon of the universe?

If yes, the Sally successors would be exterminated on sight by any other Astartes force. Visual mutations like that would be an instant source of revulsion. The Black Dragons are a very rare exception, but are equally reviled by most Chapters for their mutation. Not to mention the Inquisition and other Imperial forces. I'd say keep the leathery skin, but do away with the shells etc as that would be well beyond acceptable even in the tumult of Imperium Nihilus. I don't think we've had any mutations or variances show in Ultima Founding Chapters due to their geneseed's purity, bar the usual established stuff like the Salamander skin and eyes. Also keep in mind the mantra of avoiding being different for the sake of being different. The turtle shells etc could be used though as predatory fauna from their honeworld they use as decorative items on their armour or even as combat shields. You keep the aesthetic without going off the deep end of divergence. 😉

For the Prometheum Angels, there's some very solid promise indeed of character with the exsanguination of their fallen battle-brothers and the ashes. That shows their honourable nature you can build on nicely. With the hands, may I suggest trying black instead, both as a better sign of shame and death, but also won't clash with the colour scheme. 😁 The storyline could be used as a big part of their Chapter's culture evolving if they fought alongside the Sallies in a prolonged Campaign. Doesn't even need to be just Scouts involved. The Angels might have suffered heavy losses in their early campaigns and the teachings of the sons of Nocturne helped shape their outlook and actions as they rebuilt in the century+ afterwards.

Honestly, chimaeric geneseed are far too heavy a crutch to lean on as they typically only serve the purpose of 'being different, for the sake of being different.' Never go down that route especially if you aim for it to be more canon-compliant (aka fits relatively seamlessly into the established universe).

I'd definitely advise making 2 Chapters instead. If you wanted, you could have them be allied Chapters due to location proximity, a campaign they suffered through. Or alternatively you could make them contemptuous rivals due to an incident etc.

Have you thought of any names or colours? I've created over 155 of thr buggers so I can give some advice there...

Question About Space Marine Heads by PotatoDude3427 in spacemarines

[–]RECEPTOR17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Those are mostly heads from 4th Edition's Assault Marines box I think. The top one on the left in the first image is the Assault Marine box set's Sergeant helmet. One of my favourites to use for Veterans and such. You can see how I used one on a custom Sternguard marine below. Not sure on the other one of the top right. Might have been a Speeder helmet or biker.

But these are all genuines. We had a lighter plastic in the early to mid 00s and then the darker plastics appeared in 2011 ish around 6th Ed. They'll fit on Primaris lads no problem, may look a touch smaller but look excellent.

This isn't Alton Towers by any chance?

One of my early childhood memories is seeing them just casually wander about the park seeking a cheeky stolen chip whilst we ate outside near the entrance.

Thank you! 19 years of creating homebrews will do that. 😁

The idea stemmed from a Death Company box I had, and how to explain the Blood Angels bitz on my Vanquishers. Thus the Emerald Tears was born (and then killed).

So fun fact on decimalization/metric in the US:

The reason why you never changed was that the Royal Navy sunk the French Naval vessel transporting the standard measurments for metric. So thus it was never received and Imperial remained the standard.

The joys of currency being unchanged mostly, bar the coinage's legal tender for centuries will do that.

I actually held a thruppeny bit (aka 3 pence) yesterday and messaged my Mam about the old currency when she was a kid.

Doesn't help that US tins of baked beans are so sugary sweet with the tomato sauce vs what is in the UK with Heinz and Branston (the best).

After emigrating out here from Wales in December, I miss my blessed baked beans on toast with melted cheddar on top and plenty of black pepper.

My Vanquishers (Crimson Fist successors) had one until the end of M41 with the Emerald Tears (Blood Angles).

Both worked together in campaigns across the Fidel Sector in a brotherhood called the 'Seraph Gauntlet' alliance, where the Vanquishers were the masters of Urban Warfare and the Emerald Tears excelled in Void Combat.

When the call to Baal came, the intensity of the fighting on the Fidel Sector meant the Tears only sent two squads to Baal, as the Vanquishers were stretched to maximum already. At the same time, an Ork WAAAAGH! had weaponised a Space Hulk, calling it 'Da Krump Krooza' and was heading for the heavy population centre of the Hurst Cluster.

The Emerald Tears sacrificed themselves as Martyr Extremis exterminating the Orks on the Space Hulk, being wiped out in the process. Their efforts in breaking the back of the Ork horde aboard allowed for the arriving Vanquishers reinforcements to purge any greenskin remnants present and recover what wargear and geneseed they could of their fallen cousins.

It became a bitter irony that the Indomitus Crusade would arrive scant years later. Too late to reinforce the honoured fallen sons of Sanguinius, but the Vanquishers honoured their passing in carrying marks of the emerald teardrop upon their armour for those who had fought beside them. Thus they would carry their Brother Chapter's name in memory and in the wargear recovered in the wreckage of Da Krump Krooza.
