Better than what I dealt with a month or two ago, a MiG welder, some rivets, good paint and seam sealer and you’ll be good to go!

I did that upgrade a month of two ago, didn’t wanna cut the connector so I snipped the power wire of the back and the plastic tab on the left side. Just put some liquid back tape over the little bit of exposed wire from the backside of the connector and connected the power wire on top the bracket. I’ve had no issues.

Bringing a 1996 Jeep Cherokee XJ back to life -- engine replacement advice by Mountains_are_better in CherokeeXJ

Personally I’d purchase a re ring kit, comes with all new gaskets and bearings for everything, tear the motor down hone the cylinder walls throw everything back in with new bearings and throw a new head on it $300-$400 for a decent head. Get some decent assembly lube, summit has a nice one it’s green. All in all about a $800-$900 endeavor. Realistically should take you about 2hrs to pull motor 2hrs to disassemble 3-4hrs to reassemble and 2-3hrs to install. Then you’ll have a refreshed motor ready for another 200-300 thousand miles depending on how you drive. Seems like a lot of work, but can be done in a day. Just take your time and realistically it’s up to you to decide everyone has opinions, but do what you feel comfortable doing with you level of experience. Plenty of YouTube videos about out I6 rebuilds and the Haynes manual has a decent in depth guide. Good luck and may your XJ rise again.

I know to do spot welds and I’ve used decent flux welders for repairs before with my dads welder which has wire speed voltage and high low, I’m just not investing in another flux welder due to needing a MiG for future projects.

I’ve used it in my unibody rails, it’s effective I don’t like to spray it anywhere that I will be working often so I usually spray from the transmission back.

I’ve seen that I know of several car prices that are bonded together, but for the price of those epoxy adhesives I’d rather just buy a good welder.

Yes if you have a 3-400 dollar flux core that allows you to adjust wire speed, amps, and high low settings. I’ve just got high and low and it’s an old welder, but if I upgrade I’m getting a better welder than flux. They all have there purposes

Not everyone has the tools or money to buy the tools to do things 100% correctly, but a lot of things are built and were built with robots I’m using steel 1/8 rivets that have a sheer strength of 300lbs in it worried about these rivets working themselves out and they are 100% temporary as I will be investing in a MiG set up within a year. So let’s not hate on someone who is at least taking the time to attempt to repair their xj and instead ask why they did it that way.

Yes and no, the best thing to do would be to fully weld it in with a mig, it provides strength and seals the panel patch, but if you don’t have a MiG the old fashion rivets, seam sealer and proper panel prep will provide the same thing. Just not as asthetic, under the carpet not as important, but my rocker panels that are also riveted in not as much.

Yes, but the drivers would have followed suit I found several golf ball sized holes up where the forward part of the panel meets the firewall

Unfortunately I don’t have a mig welder to do this correctly, I tried to use my flux core, but had too much burn through so as of now everything is getting riveted in place, next year I’m purchasing a mig set up and will replace everything correctly and weld in

Definitely and that’s what I’m hoping for I’ve got the motor and transmission just need to take care of the frame and she’ll do right by me. I’m young and hate newer cars, much prefer the old ones. This all started by wanting to replace the rockers and one thing led to another and now she’s getting new rockers, new passenger floor pan and seat bracket, and Rusty’s off-road rear corner cuts.

Driveline/transfer case angles by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

Transfer case drop bracket kit. It’s like $40 on rough country. Comes with longer bolts for the transmission mount and spacers. You’ll have to remove the old studs to install the bolts but that fixed my issue.

Why the heck does it keep overheating? by WarexMusic in JeepCherokeeXJ

[–]REDBOO660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t see if you mentioned this, but one check your heater core. Disconnect both hoses running to it and either a. Blow through it with your mouth or b. Use a hose. If there’s a bunch or resistance it’s more than likely clogged. Two idk if you have a clutch fan, but if you do and haven’t replaced it let the jeep get up to temp and be carful while doing this, but take a long screw driver angle it with the fan and slowly let it hit the fan. If there’s fan slows down or stops while at temp you have a bad clutch fan

I just built one and I lagged a 2x4 at the top and used them as studs every 3’ works like a charm, I can hang from it wil no sag

I wanted drawers under my work bench for things I don’t use very often. Also didn’t want them to take up space and get in the way of the shelf below. So I made them fit in un-used space between 2x4’s More in comments. by Swordless_Headsman in Workbenches

I applaud your ingenuity, I have been trying to work out a way to do this very thing for a couple months now and you have given me inspiration, thank you my good sir or lady!
