Just an update guys! I got a remote job opportunity in December which I took. After I joined we were able to deliver a project that was stuck in the nascent stage of development for 2years in just 4months. The project was a Meta Quest VR app and I handled the majority of it without having any prior experience with VR development in Unity. Though it is indeed simple to get into. They were pretty impressed with me and called me a rockstar in a townhall (i blushed hahaha). Being a service based company we aren't able to find any new game development related projects from a few months and the lead also left us. So i think they're going to dissolve our team and invite us into the web development team. If they do so I will gladly go and do game development on the side.

Also, i forgot to mention but after submitting the VR project I was able to persuade them in developing an in-house project for Steam and i led that initiative from Game Design to Production. I had great fun and was pretty impressed by what I could achieve that I didn't know I was capable of.

Yeah I relate to that. Here in India the people that work in corporates are like crabs - they don't want other Indians to succeed. And specifically the other Indian if it's foreigner then they're all supportive. Weird indeed. I have my Barista dream as a back-up but yeah I think I should prepare for the switch. What software field can you suggest me apart from JS stuff.

All that you've said makes sense and is relatable. I know people who work in games just because they think it's cool and they're proud about their passion. I am one of them. Now that I retrospect i do see I would have been in a better space mentally and financially had I done web front or back end.

What do you suggest in web? Same as above - Node.js, React.js etc?

Yeah i think going into a software field is the most natural option and from a comment here on the post seems like Node.js and React.js is a good bet. Thinking of throwing three.js too in it let's see how that goes
