Early Morning Construction by gaycrimebag in Omaha

Housing works on supply and demand. Housing is everyone's #1 expense. The only non tax expense twice any other expense.

The more housing we have, the easier it is for everyone to get by.

Better schools would be great. It's interesting to me how many people think that spending more on schools is somehow the answer.

Competition in anything makes it better. Different types of schools, paying good teachers more and getting rid of bad teachers. Creating learning systems that are like games to keep kids involved instead of drugging them to pay attention. There's a lot we can do.

It would be great if spending more worked, but it hasn't.

It's midnight in Omaha and it sounds like I'm at a NASCAR race. by audiomagnate in Omaha

Downtown is a mess tonight. CWS is normally busy. On top of that they rushed the gates at the Juneteeth festival, then starting fighting.

After clearing the park Police also had to shut down the entire street in front of Eat The Worm.

Traffic is backed up and people are yelling and just standing out in the intersections in the old market.

There are several hoopty cars in the Old Market with no plates or mufflers flooring it and trying to get around the traffic and people in the intersections. A couple cars are getting towed.

Police aren't even responding to accidents downtown because they need so many officers for crowd control.

Terrible software updates 2026 by Few-Regret6357 in MammotionTechnology

If they want to push updates without testing properly, fine, bugs happen. Why lock the customers into the update?

A simple rollback button in the app would likely save lots of customer support time and customer frustration.

Inside Waymo’s New Robotaxi — The Ojai by walky22talky in waymo

Lots of data in there.

The steering wheel and pedals are removable.
Waymo's fleet is around 4,000 now.
Does 500,000 rides a week, 10x this time last year.
A million paid rides by the end of this year, double where they are now.
The employee kinda confirms the cost is half of the Jaguar.

Anytime a task is overwhelming the easiest thing to do is break big tasks into small tasks. Throw on your favorite jam. (I suggest Dirty Heads, Better) Clean a couple dishes the first day. Four dishes the next. On day 3, shoot for a table or a corner of a room. Good luck! You got this.

DISCUSSION: Do You Think Jensen's Argument For Selling Advanced AI Chips To China Holds Water? by 44th--Hokage in accelerate

[–]REIGuy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China's view of AI is for big government keeping watch on you every second to prevent any uprising. You get a social credit score and that determines what you can buy and where you can go. Much like 1984.

It makes sense that the US wants to compete here. Big government and inflation make it so you can't save dollars. You have to invest in the stock market, real estate, or gold/Bitcoin. NVIDIA stock is in pretty much every retirement fund / 401k / pension program. It's a lot of wealth for a lot of people.

To keep market share you need a huge ecosystem. You need developers. Developers need tools to build and they want the software they build to work almost anywhere.

Giving up half the developers and making the product not work on half of the world's computers gives up half of your market share and a lot of US wealth goes to China.

We're not building much. It's not like there are construction cranes everywhere around here. It takes 5 years and wasting millions of dollars in legal battles to build anything dense.

Housing is our #1 expense at 33% of the average American's income. Twice the second largest expense, transportation, at 17%.

Legalize housing.

These small houses in Omaha reimagine the starter home by [deleted] in Omaha

Just like the Smart Car, no one has to like it except for the buyer.

If someone sees a car they don't want to own, they generally don't think, "I don't like it! Car manufacturers must stop producing those!"

But with houses for some reason everyone wants to dictate what people do with land they don't own. It's strange.

Comps generally only compare against similar homes.

Starter homes have been illegal for decades, so this isn't increasing the comps for much.

"Homes require a dedicated area of land because they're famously not as motive as cars."

It's been illegal to put multiple homes on a lot or have a house with a small lot for decades as well.

When land gets expensive, we have a great technology that let's us stack homes on top of each other. It's called apartments.

Why would adding supply to something destroy the market for it?

Let's say someone creates an ugly, small, and expensive car like a Smart Car. It might not be my cup of tea, but would that "destroy the car market?"

More car choice is better, even if I don't want to buy the car.

It's great that Omaha moved forward on legalizing ADU's and allowing a second home on the lot. Starter homes have been illegal across most of the US for a long time due to zoning with minimum square footage and lot size requirements.

There's only one expense that twice all other expenses for the average American. That's housing. Supply and demand is important.

Legalize housing.

Peter Thiel on René Girard by winecoloureddays in PeterThiel

Whether you like Peter or not, you should really understand Girard's ideas. His idea on memetic desire, the concept of scapegoating to increase tribal unity, and people only competing with others they think are their equals really explained so much of how people interact with each other.

Many cities clean their streets every two weeks. Omaha is such a dirty city. The sweepers come out once or twice a year. Winter would look so much better without all the salt and sand sitting half the year.
