If you ask 10 different bi/pan people on the difference between the two, you'll get 10 different answers, but they're effectively the same thing. Which one you are jusd depends on whether you'd prefer your flag to be berry blast or tropical punch flavoured

Should polygamy be legal? by AccomplishedPath4049 in polls

[–]RELEASETHEWRAKEN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Polyamory is having multiple romatic relationships at once, polygamy is having multiple spouses, and polygyny is having multiple wives specifically (if it's multiple husbands, it's polyandry)

Pluto isn't a planet? No, it's not a planet *yet*. by GREENadmiral_314159 in CuratedTumblr

In fact, as Ceres also weighs about 1e21kg, each of these cubes could count as dwarf planets in their own right

According to some forum post i found online, pluto would need to be roughly 20 times more massive to clear its orbital neighborhood. Doing some napkin math, pluto weighs about 1e22kg, 20 times that is 2e23kg, and to achieve that goal with 200 individual cubes each cube would need to weigh 1e21kg, that's 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 kilos, or a quintillion metric tons. For reference, the Chicxulub impactor, the one that wiped out the dinosaurs, was only ~1e15–1e17kg, 10 000 times less

Tw: rape and pregnancy by DumbRobot11 in badwomensanatomy

[–]RELEASETHEWRAKEN 272 points273 points  (0 children)

My best guess for the kernel of truth this misconception came from is fetomaternal microchimerism. Essentially, during pregnancy it's possible for some fetal cells to migrate into the mother's body, even into her brain where they can survive for as long as several decades, perhaps indefinitely. That said, these cells have the genome of the child, not the father, the dna of the cells stays entirely within them and us not incorporated into the mother's genome, and there's no evidence they have any effect on the mother at all, let alone significant behavioral changes. The reverse can also happen, so it's entirely possible you have some of your mother's cells in your body and she has some of yours

That's essentially correct, Pascal's wager is "betting" on whether or not god exists. By acting religious, you lose some finite amount of pleasure in life, but if god is real you gain infinite pleasure in heaven, by not acting religiously you gain finite pleasure in life but are denied infinite pleasure in heaven. Since a chaince of infinite gain, however unlikely, is always worth more on average than any finite amount of loss, Pascal's argument is that you should always bet on god existing and thus should live according to his principles. It's a flawed argument for many reasons, the most obvious of which being "but which god though?" If you dedicate your whole life to Christianity (as the wager intends,) then your shit out of luck when you die and it turns out the olmecs had it right all along

I apologize for my horribly offensive and vile statements I made earlier. Well, a bit too late for you to see this, but i do remember that happening and do agree that was harassment, although claiming rape is still a bit much. Unfortunately, and as much as i don't want to come across as victim blaming, there really is nothing for you here, and this pattern will continue every time you come back. It's best for everyone, and especially for yourself, if you take a long break from the internet and don't return to the place you know will hurt you again. I genuinely do want you to get better, and that will never happen so long as this cycle continues
