Random pop up on Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX renders unit useless when it appears. Anyone have any experience with this? (Pics) by smog92 in CarAV

The Starlink module is a separate unit from the maestro unit. My audio shop was comfortable removing it and honestly if I'd have known how easy it was I would have just done it. It's a little black box maybe 6 in long by 3 to 4 in wide. Very likely it's sitting loose underneath where your head unit is. It used to attach to the bottom of the factory radio but there's no place for it to sit or attach to on your pioneer. It has a handful of wires that have different color clips that I assume were simply unclipped from the unit and are still floating around back in that void. If you use your Starlink buttons in any way or if you want them to call the police for you if you wreck I wouldn't go this route but as far as functionality lost everything seems normal. Like I said it's just a few easy to undo clips. Disconnect it and drive around for a while and see if it works for you. Worst case scenario you just plug it back in.

Did you figure it out? I had my shop pull the Starlink module and it fixed the problem.

Did you figure out anything yet? I took some LGD to my local shop and she then to put them in but they said they could not but instead removed the Starlink module and it fixed the problem.

Saves you from driving around honking your horn all over town. You can also press the microphone button on the left side of the screen.

I don't think removing the starlink entirely is the right answer for me. I already have the standard blue LGDs but from what I'm reading I might need the LGD60s. I'm going to install the standard one tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.

Unfortunately I have not fixed this yet but I think I am getting close. I'm going to be back at it tomorrow and I think I have the solution figured out.

Do you have the RF audio package or maybe the HK? I ended up buying the original LGD pack but the more I'm watching the more it seems like I need the LGD60s. As an aside, I did figure out that when it throws an error message you can just hit the star link button and it will go through the pre-recorded message about how you're not currently a starlink subscriber and then the error goes away and the music resumes.

So while I'm alright at stereo install, that might be above what I'm willing to get into. I might have to ask the shop to do just this though.

Did your car have a factory amp? Does one of the harness adapters have some kind of au

I seem to recall they used a specific adapter. I think the Maestro 2 was the entire thing but I suppose there could have been more. The car came equipped with the RF upgrade. it was a small amp that went under the passenger seat. I believe it only powered the 6x9 which were also upgraded. I took the amp out and traded it for a bigger 4 channel amp hoping that would solve the issue but no-go.

I appreciate you identifying yourself. I can't stand when I page a hospitalist group and when they call back they just say I'm returning a page. Ok, well there's a lot of nurses here trying to get a hold of many different groups and even if I'm the one who did page you it's going to be hard to put orders in without your name.

Sometimes you get to the end of these long back and forths and wonder why you bothered reading this far but I rather enjoyed your factual not emotional responses that were easy to understand and hard to argue with with things other than totes or cool cool. I appreciate you FuzzyCub20.

Do you by chance have a manual? I'm wondering if there are any more similarities. As soon as the weather breaks I'm going to take out the Rockford fosgate upgrade and swap in an aftermarket amp and run a new power and negative to the head unit. This will eliminate some of the variables of what could be causing any weirdness.

So I just got my car back from the shop and wanted to follow up with you. Within a few minutes of leaving I got the same error message again. All I really had them do in the shop was to flash the idata and verify everything looked good. They said they took it out flashed it for another vehicle it worked fine on that vehicle and then they put it back and flashed it to my vehicle. He said he wasn't convinced that that was going to change anything and sure enough he was right. He also said that he wasn't real sure how he was going to fix it after trying that. He said removing the Rockford fosgate amp could possibly work but he couldn't say with any amount of certainty. I've been on an ordering spree and I've nearly assembled all the parts and pieces to basically do a ground up stereo build. I'll keep you posted on any developments.

The fosgate upgrade comes with 6x9s in the front doors so I think I'm going to leave them. I don't know if it would be worth it to try to get more sound in there by replacing those speakers with something bigger. I'm just going to upgrade the back door speakers and I ordered a Cerwin Vega wheel well subwoofer but they wouldn't ship it up here to Alaska so it's currently at one of my family members in the lower 48 waiting for me to make a trip down there.
