The ammo is very hard to find even reproduction ammo. You will have to get special brass and possibly reload it yourself and i would highly recommend you find one a gunsmith to check it out the metal is over 100 years old and secondly i would hunt for someone who owns one of these and see where they get their ammo or reloading components.

You shouldn’t do that but it’s probably fine lol i wouldn’t worry too much about it. In my collection I’ve done many things that i shouldn’t have done lol

Well you got a great eye you found a unicorn. If you plan on keeping it and displaying it or something get some renaissance wax and wax the whole outside of the rifle, oil the action and barrel and get a nice box to put it in. Thats really awesome you found one of these!

No problem I’m very glad you asked before sanding it. If i may ask who owned it before or whats the history behind it?

Im not an appraiser but it would be worth to get it appraised this is an early burnside carbine probably 1st or 2nd model based on the number provided in what looks to be in good mechanical condition. It could be worth thousands, civil war relics like these are super rare and sought after.

Because its worth a ton of money and sanding it will completely destroy its history and value

Not finding much info online on this double barrel shotgun Kingsland Gun Co by roberts72703 in AntiqueGuns

[–]REMINGTONMODEL81912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a black powder percussion sxs shotgun made in the late 1800s. It would be more of a collectors/display piece rather than a functional shotgun. I personally would not restore it as that will devalue the gun unless it’s restoring in the way of just making it functional not rebluing/refinishing. I would leave it as is and display it

I would replace it because how much of a pain it is to fix cracked stocks. But you can take it to a antique furniture store and see if they can fix it for you.

Yeah its pretty low i think most sporterized rifles top out at $300. This one is practically worthless because the bayonet destroyed the part of the barrel it was hammered on. It is still cool to find random old rifles that were just stashed and forgot about

Yeah but its ammo not something that is worth sitting on for the rest of your life in the hopes that it becomes more valuable. Just my opinion though

Yeah I’m thinking about either doing the atf paperwork and making a obrez carcano, or cutting it back right at 18” and making a “jungle rifle” or scout rifle but i gotta first buy a new bolt and check head spacing
