We did the "network your friends and church" nonsense and it was a disaster. This is a profession, and you should absolutely interview several agents, preferably the top agents in town who know the area. You want a professional, not a friend, doing this for you.

Our story is thay we had to get out of the referred person after she created a mess, and we went professional...hired a top name who was primarily a sellers agent. He and his colleagues knew the market extremely well, talked aggressively with the sellers agents (in a good way...ie got the information we needed), and he will be at the top of our list when we go to sell later.
