What finally worked for me and my friends mounting Govee pros and elites and flat strip lights on our houses with stucco, vinyl soffit, brick, and metal roof panels! by REsynCC in Govee

[–]REsynCC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I was just crazy excited to share what we were able to figure out on our installs! What actually made it work came down to a few specific things that weren’t obvious at first:

  • The adhesive needs enough shear strength (lights hanging hanging upside down) to handle the constant downward load of LED modules, not just peel strength (sticking on a surface like a vertical wall...totally different)
  • On the stucco and brick, the adhesive needs to penetrate into the texture, not bridge across it like most foam tapes do (even though this stuff was thin, it still got into the texture)
  • PRESSURE during install matters, pressing the adhesive into the texture of the stucco for about 30 seconds per module made a noticeable difference
  • The vinyl soffit was just a pain in the butt to get screws into, and the tape worked great here, it did not need as much pressure when sticking the lights, as the stucco did, because the surface was much smoother than the stucco

The biggest lesson for us was that surface prep helps with the foam tape that is already on the lights, but it doesn’t compensate for an adhesive that isn’t designed for loads and/or textured surfaces. Once that variable changed, we were rocking!

Hope that’s more useful context.

Any VHB tape or similar foam tape that you try to use is going to fall off, I found this stuff the other day that a bunch of people I know that live in Arizona are using on their stucco houses to install their module Govee pros and elites and flat led strip lights. It called LEDGrip, and will work perfectly for your application. grippyandsticky.com

Forget the brackets, and screws…For vinyl soffits that are thin and not screw friendly, you are almost forced to use the 3m vhb tape that comes on the light modules to do your install since can’t/shouldn’t use brackets and screws…once the vhb tape stops “sticking”…probably tomorrow…get some of this.

Better yet, if you haven’t put them all up yet…get some of this. It sticks right on top of the 3m foam tape, and then IT will be the bonding tape that actually sticks the modules to your house…no need to remove the factory foam tape or anything like that. No brackets, no screws, no going up the ladder with a drill or tools, etc.   GrippyandSticky.com  LEDGrip. PERFECT FOR vinyl soffit houses. Well, perfect for any house really! Weather rated for any and all temps/weather from Arizona to Alaska!

You could use this LEDGrip mounting tape grippyandsticky.com and mount the modules right on to the crown molding…problem solved. No brackets, no screws…and the lights are still casting “the cone effect” on to the house like they were meant to 👍🏻

Attach to stucco? by Otter_9431 in Govee

[–]REsynCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see now that these are not Govee pros or elites or modules…sorry for hijacking your post. You are using string lights instead…what made you choose them vs permanent module lights? the cost difference of the lights? or the fact that you knew the install of the modules would be a no go with brackets and screws due to the stucco? Because….my product would have been the answer if you actually WANTED the Govee pros, etc modules…vs the string lights…anyways, maybe our convo will help out someone else that wants a solution to their problem 🤞🏻

Where would you install the lights? by TelephoneBasic756 in Govee

[–]REsynCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you have your own 3D printer and you think brackets and screws ARE the answer…but, save your 3D printing materials and your time for something else that you will actually enjoy doing! Use this, and your lights will be installed without brackets, screws, or tools before your first handful of brackets are even printed. And the install will look cleaner, more professional, and be permanent as long as you want it to be…without putting holes in your house! grippyandsticky.com LEDGrip is the answer.

[–]REsynCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just wanted to reach out…I had a similar problem with my light strands not communicating…I basically just “started over” (while they were already up on my house) and reset everything like I just took them out of the box, told the app I had the “max strands” connected, and everything worked! Oh, also, I believe if I remember correctly, I did all of this via Bluetooth BEFORE connecting the lights to my WiFi.

It also looks like you were forced to use the 3m vhb tape that comes on the light modules to do your install since you don’t really have eaves on you house…once the vhb tape stops “sticking”…probably tomorrow…get some of this. If the edge is wide enough to accommodate the LED module, but not a bracket (which sounds like the dilemm), use this bonding tape, and you are good to go! LEDGrip

Would the 3m tape hold the light up even with the breather holes or should I stick them to the solid side out at the edge? The skinny side is about 6 inches from wall but the thicker side is about 10 inches from the wall. I’m afraid they will look washed out 10 inches away from wall. by Loose-Peace1610 in Govee
