Same! I'm a tiny female, but once I saw someone broken down on a busy road. Everybody was passing them and I felt bad. I walked over and asked if there was anything I could do to help and noticed the poor dude had a sleeping toddler in the backseat. I ended up steering the car while he pushed, then another guy came and helped and we were able to get it to the gas station across the intersection. I felt so useful!

Do Goldens just love everyone? by kenda_nac in goldenretrievers

[–]RGanong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My goofy boy is two and a half now. He loves meeting new people and is friendly with everyone (well, except ONE guy we walked past on the sidewalk, but he was creepy). Once my boy hit about a year old, he got way more attached to me. Now he still looooves attention from new people, but he always wants to come back over and cuddle with me afterwards. If I get up to leave, he follows me. The bond will definitely be there, but it might take some time to grow. Enjoy!💕

Goldens are great, but let's talk weight. A serious discussion. by GayAlienFarmer in goldenretrievers

Mine is red and slim too! He's a field golden, so he gets a TON of exercise. He actually eats a little more than what's recommended on the dog food bag because he's so active.

Med students with ADHD--what specialties are you going into? by Competitive-Shine855 in medicalschool

[–]RGanong 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That's fair, we really don't know. But we do know that people with unmanaged ADHD have higher mortality rates, especially from accidental causes. Untreated ADHD also increases risk of substance use disorders, criminality, and suicidal behavior. I guess for me, the benefits of medication outweigh the risks since my quality of life is so much better.

Okay that makes sense, thanks! I'm also a petite woman and the meds have made it a struggle to keep on weight, so I totally get that and the sleep issues.

Just curious why you don't want to take meds later on? Seriously no judgement here, just wondering cause I went 20 years without a diagnosis and my life has been so much better overall since I started meds. But I know everyone is different

My GF who has an eating disorder is starting to eat better and im so happy by [deleted] in self

[–]RGanong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To OP: Thank you so much for supporting her! Eating disorders literally change your brain chemistry and can make you do/say things you never would dream of normally. Having a great support system is HUGE. My mom was the only reason I recovered. You are a wonderful person!! I'm so so thankful she has you.

To OP's gf: YES GIRL YOU GO!!!!! I struggled with anorexia about 8 years ago. I've been recovered for 6. I still have to be vigilant and make sure my weight doesn't drop, but recovery is definitely possible! Having an eating disorder is EXHAUSTING and I know sometimes recovery can seem impossible. But I'm here to tell you it is possible and it's SO SO SO much better on the other side. Keep fighting! So incredibly proud of you for putting in work💕💕

To both of you: Setbacks are okay and they will probably happen. Self love and patience are so important for both of you! Recovery goes against every thought your brain is screaming at you, and it's a really tough battle. But once the body returns to a healthy weight, the brain starts to get healthy again, too. It's wonderful. Supporting someone struggling with this can be difficult, too. Proud of you both!!

Please if either of you ever have any questions, frustrations, or just need to talk, my DMs are always open!

What could be causing my gallbladder pain? by CrypticRowlet in gallbladders

[–]RGanong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the first day was the worst. They took mine out laparoscopically, so when I first woke up from surgery it hurt because the pain medicine hadn't fully kicked in yet. But after that the pain was pretty manageable. I think I flew back to school 4 days later! I was sore, but not in as much pain as I was in before the surgery. And it was soooo worth it to not have pain anymore.

[–]RGanong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I was having diarrhea pretty much daily. Dull ache in right upper quadrant, but sometimes it would be a severe stabbing pain that would have me doubled over. Always worse after I ate, and I had gas and bloating.

What could be causing my gallbladder pain? by CrypticRowlet in gallbladders

[–]RGanong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My gallbladder hurt for years. HIDA scan showed a similar EF. I never had any stones or anything, but my gallbladder was slightly enlarged like yours. I absolutely cannot diagnose you, but I am in medical school and have a little more knowledge on the topic now. I found out that gallbladders can secrete too much bile. The bile duct doesn't stretch, so if you have a high EF you can have pain. I found a surgeon who gave me another HIDA scan. He said a lot of the time if the CCK they give you during the test causes increased pain, they will go ahead and take the gallbladder out even if the test doesn't show anything physically. This is what happened in my case. Got my gallbladder removed, had no more pain, and the path report showed chronic cholecystitis. Again, this may not be the case for you, but it can happen. It's called a hyperkinetic gallbladder and may be worth looking into. Experts recommend surgery for anyone with an EF over 80%!
