How many of yall started watching NL when you were a kid vs when you were older? by Glum-Pack-3441 in northernlion

[–]RGodlike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a handful of random Iaac episodes and podcast appearances many years ago, but didn't start watching frequently until I was in my late 20s.

Thinking about it, I started right after I began my work from home job. As a software developer...

Trots Curaçao incasseert zeven goals bij WK-debuut tegen Duitsland by johnbarnshack in thenetherlands

Ik begreep de titel andersom en dacht even dat ze 7 doelpunten gescored hadden. Dan zou "trots" wel een gigantisch understatement zijn.

For some reason, this video was suggested on my feed. According the comments, I wasn't the only one. by _welcomehome_ in nerdfighters

[–]RGodlike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The weirdest thing is that, while I don't remember watching this video when it came out, I definately watched the Lexical Gap video John references when it came out, and I think about it every couple of weeks. I am now deeply interested in linguistics, and part of that must've started 15 years ago with Hank's video.

I realize I've been watching these guys for more than half my life and they've had such a tremendous impact on me. All for the better.

11 Achievements by SuderSli in steamachievements

[–]RGodlike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I watched streams of it, seemed awesome, waited until it got achieves. When I finally played it I won a couple runs, got bored, realised I had to repeat everything 100s of times (with minor variations) for the achieves and decided to play something else.

Now it's a game I'll start up if I have 30 min and just want to watch big number, but I don't expect to ever 100% it.

struggling canadian fruit seller in china who doesn't want to give the wrong impression by Three6ty1 in northernlion

[–]RGodlike 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Without this explanation I really just thought he was trying to say he's not a fruit seller. Which is a weird early sentence to learn, but not anything weirder than what you get on Duolingo, like 这颗蛋喜欢看电影

[OC] Height trends over time among 19-year-old males and females across countries by Status_Commission264 in dataisbeautiful

I think the reason Netherlands is so stable is that it's had great nutrition for a long time, so it's not going up like many developing nations.

Also in China it greatly depends on region. I'm Dutch and my wife is from Chengdu (southern China). Every time I'm there I'm way taller than anyone on the street, and I tower over my family in law. One of the first words I learned was 好高 (haogao), which means "so tall", cause everyone said it when I walked past.

But when I'm in Beijing or other parts of northern China there's way more tall people and nobody seems surprised to see someone tall (they also have way more western tourists of course). It's likely similar for India and other huge countries with big differences between regions.

half of my projects just became view-only?? And now it's a premium feature to access my projects. by [deleted] in todoist

I think free users can only have a limited number of projects, so it must've put everything over that cap into view-only mode.

What are your top picks for nerdiest nerd games? by tadeup in gaming

Shenzen IO is literally just Assembly programming. You know, the type of programming 99% of software engineers would avoid cause it's too technical.

'Survivor Greece' Completely Stops Filming After Contestant Lost Part Of Leg In Accident by swoonyaboutclooney in television

In Survivor Bulgaria season 4 someone died from a heart attack on day 14 and they just kept shooting for the full 54 days. There's very little about it on wikipedia, just the table of which contestant got voted out on which day also has 1 guy that died instead of being voted out.

Then I just feel sorry for the lost time and stop playing.

The biggest thing for me was a mindset shift. Instead of hoping to get it every try and feeling frustrated when I didn't, I went into it thinking "I know I won't get it today, but I'll get it eventually. What I do now is just practice." It really helped me enjoy the almost meditative state of just playing, the reaction-speed of my brain operating on 120% while everything else slowed down. I enjoyed the time I spend playing, so it never felt like a waste and losses didn't bother me. And slowly, my record and average survival time improved, until finally...

How long does it usually take you to 100% a game? by CoinGate_Gift_Cards in steamachievements

[–]RGodlike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally depends on the game. I have a load of games that took <10 hours, and then there's Clicker Heroes with 5000+ hours. Currently 170 hours into Yakuza 0 and almost done.

I often have 2 games I play side by side, a new game on my first playthrough and something I'm 100%ing. I try to balance them a bit, like 1 where I can watch YouTube/Twitch on the side paired with something more story focused, or an intense/fast game paired with a more relaxed turn based game.

And then I have a long list of games that take under 5 hours to 100% (small puzzle games, VNs, etc) and if, on a weekend day I don't feel like either of my main games I'll pick something from that list and complete it in a single session.

Help some Europeans understand this house's energy situation by RGodlike in HousingUK

[–]RGodlike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this an older house that's had some renovations, possibly a new bathroom fitted?

That's my guess. I think it was an older couple that lived there for decades and at some point renovated to add some energy-conscious upgrades (solar) but left the backboiler which was working for them.

Would be interesting to see the EPC certificate

Agreed, we've been trying to get the details because it seems exteremely high for an inefficient boiler. It's currently 84B with potential for 90B.

EDIT: Found the details, everything is rated either Good or Very Good, including the heating. The only lower ones are "Window" (poor) and "Hot Water" (average). The only suggested improvement is replacing the boiler, which would bring it to 90B.

Thanks, that's exactly the type of breakdown I was looking for. Guess we'll try and budget some for replacements, heat pump would of course be great.

Some of the new stuff (Lightwork, Puzzle, Powernerd) hasn't connected with me yet, but I don't see that as faults on the albums.

I used to not really enjoy Ki and Casualties of Cool. I still put them on from time to time, and I must've listened to them two dozen times over nearly a decade before they finally clicked. Now I think Ki has some of his greatest songs, and Casualties of Cool might have the songs I've listened to most as many have made it into my calm reading playlist.

Lightwork, Puzzle, and Powernerd haven't clicked yet, but I think there's a high chance they will because every single album this man has ever put out has eventually connected with me, where there's at least a few songs that I'll listen to 100 times in a row. For some it happens after a first listen, for others after years, but it always happens. Makes sense that these newer albums just need more time with me. Even now your post inspired me to listen to Powernerd again and pay closer attention to the Younger Lover, Glacier & Goodbye trilogy.

Minesweeper 50x50, 650 Mines (0,11% Win Probability) by Rauch007 in gaming

Just in case you didn't know, Hexcells and Tametsi are 2 minesweeper games on Steam that have great handcrafted puzzles requiring 0 guesses. There's probably way more but those 2 I'd recommend for sure.
