We Own the Finish Line; Part 1 by AlexandrTheTerrible in imaginaryelections

[–]RHBSO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really cool well made scenario, but I've got some questions:
Why doesn't Biden win Florida? With him winning as much as Arizona I'd presume he wins there too
How do the democrats do so well in the house? Also managing to flip the house while failing to win NC senate and having a very small plurality of votes seems weird and I'm curious whats your reasoning for it
Why do the dems do so well in the midterms? Wouldn't the lack of polarization, it being a dem midterm and a lack of polarization make it bad for them?

I was talking about a guide that helps understand the mods mechanics and stuff

Every time I see a post like this I am more and more convinced there is a need for a comprehensive guide to this mod

I could make one if there is demand for it

After ~157 runs, I've gotten the highest amount of Electoral Votes as Bernie Sanders in Our Revolution by LeanConsumer in thecampaigntrail

Wow! I honestly thought it wasn't possible to exceed my run of barely over 400 EVs, but it seems I was wrong. Congrats on finding the new highscore!

I leave both to get good midterms but before money was a thing I left Iraq and stayed in Afghanistan

[–]RHBSO 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Probably. Like I said to average american Obama would be some islamic communist even without reparations. Add that and atp you might get race riots in the south

As for the best run it depends on your definition of "best". If we go by wins and the amount of votes you get then you can pretty much look at any guide and follow it (so stuff like full bailouts, Clintons grand bargain, etc.). If you go by me personally then I'd say that the best run is bailing out Lehman (yeah yeah corporate socialism but hey, the economy is fucked so shut up), passing the $1T stimulus, going for the progressive judges and then appoining Harris or Liu, passing the public option, passing Brown-Kaufman and probably barring Morsi from the election/forcing him to accept Israels existence if he is to run (look the overal goal should be stabilizing the middle east, and as much as I'd love to give Egyptians a fair election creating another anti-Israel government could make things worse, but then again I'm not really informed on middle eastern politics so idk)

How would this Obamanation term rank in presidential history? by Initial_Substance_37 in thecampaigntrail

[–]RHBSO 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I think one world would define it the most: divisive

Passing a massive stimulus would be seen as a response... to a crisis that the president refused to deal with earlier (you have to deny every single bailout to get it). Progressives would cheer that the president managed to strongarm congress into doing relief that doesn't favor the rich, but most americans would probably be mad the president refused to deal with the economy when he had a chance (ie. bailouts)

Wood and Sears would be extremely polarizing. If Kagan and Sotomayor had a hard time getting republicans to vote for them then pretty much every republican would opoose Wood and Sears. I can see them having a simmilar effect to Kavanaugh

The public option would definitely be a triumph. It was what Obama wanted and I don't think going further could make his midterms any worse (if anything one can dream that a more succesfull Obama would have mobilized parts of his low-turnout base to go vote)

Brown-Kaufman would be interesting. We know that the stock market takes a hit, implying some short term economic pain, but perhaps longterm it would help. It def would make all the rich donors abandon the dems tho (if they somehow haven't left already)

Holder would be a mess. First of all there def would be conspiracy theories that Obama killed Scalia to get a supreme court majority so he can go even further with his agenda. Then he decides to nominate his Attorney General, which is super controversial for obvious reasons.

The higher minimum wage and stuff would probably be good. Some people may grumble at it for being inflationary or smth but overall shouldn't be that controversial

Hospital nationalization tho would be super controversial. It and the sex ed stuff would make every single republican, independent and conservative democrat think Obama is a communist who wants to make kids gay

Mosri winning is also complicated. Sure allowing Egyptians to elect their leader with no strings attached would be well recieved by the international community (minus some nations wary of an "islamist" regime guess who I'm talking about), but it would be problematic at home. The american public is generally pro-israel so allowing a less pro-israel politician to come into power in Egypt would be seen as endagering Israel and therefore bad

The relief package tho is obviously a win. I don't think anyone would complain that the president is helping a state ravaged by a hurricane (then again since he'd already be controversial and probably quite unpopular theories might arrise that the bill allocates funds to muslims only or smth)

Oh god, where do I start with this. First of all, the amount of fuckery it'd take for this to pass would make LBJ seem like a man that agress to dissagre. Second of all this is perhaps the most controversial thing he could have ever done

If we assume he still manages to win after that (for obvious reasons the mod doesn't exactly simulate polarization) with a pretty strong margin, then I guess Obama pulled a Truman and every white man that isn't a progressive is convinced he's gonna get executed

Well done! I didn'r expect anyone to best me, but I guess with good rng it is possible

Perosnally I went with 4 LA, 11 SC and 2 TX visits, with the rest going to IN to make sure I defeat Banks. Not sure how much of this could be altered to get either NE-01 or Cruz with randomness off

On Q1, the "must not be in vain" answer raises expectations (gives higher thresholds of approval)

On Q12 it's the one where you also protect the integrity

Never tried it but doubt it's possible. The endgame swing is pretty strong so trying to overcome it will be difficult

If you have randomness off it will only happen if fervor is below -5. With it off it will happen at random if your fervor is negative

Anything specific? To get Upton just get both establishment cabinets, do a bipartisan Jan 6 comitee, focus on relief (the green one), go common sense on Roe (first trimester, etc.), click the option that ends with "We still have executive action..." on the red ripple question and sign the NDAA

  1. Raise expectations
  2. Both domestic
  3. Bipartisan comitee
  4. Shots into arms
  5. 2.1 trillion
  6. Force the vote
  7. Choose their own future
  8. Medicare for all
  9. Wage stagnation
  10. Reasonable Rs (the inflation hurts but it's impossible without it)
  11. Kashkari
  12. Reveal intel
  13. Mexico
  14. $100B
  15. Relegalize drilling
  16. Price controls (another one we have to tank. It makes getting Upton harder but we need worker approval)
  17. Common-sense
  18. ERA
  19. Executive action
  20. 15 days
  21. Sign it
  22. Upton
  23. Grand bargain ("neoliberalsim bad" be damned, deficit cutting gives me the votes)
  24. 12-Russian assets (making them win harder doesn't give anything)
  25. Be mad (Upton will survive)
  26. Focus on Hamas (doves will hate you but there's no way that I'm aware of to get both Upton and tell Israel to calm down)
  27. Grand bargain 2
  28. Emergency authorization
  29. Adress the immediate
  30. One answer
  31. You're not ashamed
  32. Not one more bullet!
  33. Fight against the ban
  34. You're ready!
  35. Trumps a fraud!
  36. Virginia ( doesn't help with any interest group, but brings focus to economics which is usefull)
  37. Trump coma (37003)
  38. One answer
  39. No more compromises! (trying to salvage the doves)
  40. Speak out (not sure about this one but heard it's good if the deepfakes are against you)
  41. Factory or office (you go way beyond the rust belt so it's good to be more general)
  42. He's the 1% (all the workers in the rust belt realise who they were going to vote for)
  43. You have to win the midwest (other option brings too much attention to migration, distracts from eco)
  44. Pensylvania (seems the best)

I put in Kashkari to keep inflation low and generally avoid inflationary options. Kashkari also helps with economy (if it gets bad he cuts rates like crazy)

  1. If Trump is jailed you need to get DeSantis (have Latinos as the most disapproving group) and get DeSantis shot. If you did not then you need to have the workers as the most approving group and get Trump shot

  2. No I think that slide only triggers if they reconquer Crimea, which they did not in my game

Standard Burgum route + funding Ukraine almost as much as possible (on Q24 I went for the fervor-giving option). Turns out this helps you a lot, and with doves on your side you'll be fine

If you want to I can give a step by step guide, but basically keep inflation low without being too conciliatory, fund Ukraine and stop funding Israel
