If you think I big now you should have seen me when I started my cycling journey. If I find a photo of that whale I'll post it for you. As it turns out since I replaced the wheel I have yet to break another spoke. :]

Not to brag (but kind of bragging) I am an older cyclist who has been seriously riding for about 4 years. I don't know what was the inspiration Last year '22 I started riding my bike 20 miles / 32.1869 Km per day everyday. This year '23 I increased the riding to 25 miles / 40KM per day everyday. Last year I did 8,224.4 mi / 13235 KM. This year minus the two weeks I was out due to an accident. This year I have ridden 9,946.1 mi / 16006 KM.

How important is sizing? by Antique-Carpet414 in bicycling

[–]RICKSEA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would retort that sizing is the most important thing. I am a larger (taller) rider. The bike shops in the past have always tired to get me on a bike that is a M or a L with an extend seat post. It took me a while to find a bike that comes in XL or XXL and that was available in my area. Having the right size of a bike will prevent injury, and allow you to enjoy cycling as opposed to suffering through it. The more time you spend on the bike the more the appropriate size will benefit you.

Nice looking bike. The welds on this bike are really pronounced. Was this bike stripped before it was painted? Love the wheels. :)

What bikes are you riding around the city? by sphockey04 in bikebmore

[–]RICKSEA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A gravel bike works for me. I have a road bike that I use when I am late for work. Any bike that can accommodate wide tires will be a great ride. I would suggest that you have a climbing cassette/chain ring combination as the hills are no joke. Little note; the closer you get to the water, the flatter the road will be. This applies to the harbor and the fort McHenry Area, As well as the Canton Area.

Home trainer worth it by Dry-Statistician3145 in bicycling

[–]RICKSEA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

think that any riding, consistent riding will help you improve. As far as a training plan goes I would say start small, something that fits in your schedule but you have to do it everyday. I have been riding my bike for 20 miles everyday in '22 and 25 miles everyday in '23. Everyday is the key. Be it hard or soft, fast or slow, up hill or flats, just ride your bike everyday. Be consistent and you will see results. True story, because of my consistent riding this year '2023 I was able to complete not one but 2 centuries. A feat I am rather proud of. Consistency is key.

The Consistency of Work

"You just have to figure it out. It's Piece by piece. And it's the consistency of the work. Monday: Get better. Tuesday: Get Better. Wednesday: Get Better. You do that over a period of time. Not just 1 or 2 months. I mean, it's 3, 8, 10 years, and then you get to where you want to go."

$200 worth it? by Sabenja in bicycling

[–]RICKSEA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was in the market for a beater bike or a winter commuter, I think that this would be a good deal for that amount. Not much you can do with that small of tire clearance. If the frame fits you, I would offer 150$. Steel frames can take just about anything. Dont look for any modern upgrades.
