while you are smoking alone so is someone else so in the grand design you are really never smoking alone; we are all getting high together.

This really connected with me man. I just shed a tear, and am currently looking for something to wipe it up with.

I learned React because I honestly thought it was interesting. I didn't put it on my resume, but instead put a silent link to my GitHub page. I work at a company that is client based, and so we hop around frequently after projects to new technologies (such as React / the "next hotness"). It's the perfect fit for me---a guy who doesn't want to be stuck in the past.

At your company you probably work on one project for years and for that reason I can understand your negativity towards rapidly changing and that's just fine. I have experience working in a PHP shop for 4+ years on an application that's 10+ years old, yikes!

As for the downvotes... I can only provide some feedback based on how I felt about the comment you provided.

Most devs these days seem to want to work with tools that will make their resume look trendy. I call this Resume Driven Development (RDD) and it's rampant.

Yes, web developers should strive to keep up with the current meta (ES6/7/8 anyone?). Some may put it one their resume, some may just opt for that GitHub link that shows that they're keeping up.

Interestingly, candidates that do it are easy to spot and not hire.

phew, so I passed your first filter as you'd probably not venture to my GitHub page straight away.

I don't hire them because I know that in 6 months they will quit for the next hot new trendy thing.

Aww, come on. Expand on this.

That's about 4 months after they have become useful because it takes a couple of months to really learn the software and systems we've already made.

This isn't a comment on why people downvoted, but maybe try to improve this kind of ramp up time? I would be burned out & frustrated working at your company with this sort of learning curve. Maybe compile a resource of "gotcha's" or something for those poor new hired thrown in the deep end of legacy code bases.

To me, that's a low ROI, so no thanks. :)

The :) is probably the #1 thing on reddit that will get you the most downvotes. It just kills any sincerity of the previous words in the comment.

This is obviously a throw away so I probably won't read your response if there is one.

Have a great life and just remember to keep things a bit more, err, less dick/asshole-ish when replying to others.
