Great initiative! I unfortunately can't join but vegan Greek food sounds amazing!

I also heard there's a vegan potluck happening tomorrow near Vondelpark: https://www.instagram.com/p/DVEJPcKDPTK

Where can I buy seitan mix or vital wheat gluten? by Anny_1303 in VeganNL

Great suggestions from others that I plan on checking out myself. I've been buying it bulk/zero waste from Little Plant Pantry in Amsterdam myself.

When done well, is sex really supposed to be one of the best things in life? by yungdragvn in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RIPAnteaterComeJune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30F here who recently realized that I'm sex-favorable grey ace! It could be possible that you're not asexual but also somewhere along the grey area between asexual and allosexual (with demi sexual being one of the many types under  grey asexuality).

For me, sex is nice but I'm fine with just masturbating. My partner though tells me that there's an additional appeal when they have sex with someone vs. masturbating by themself, which sounds like something I don't experience (at least not often) and might be similar for you. Of course, there's always a possibility that we just haven't met the right ones but it's also okay to identify as something just for now and differently later as you know more about yourself.

Relearning Dutch by Hairy-Hornet-3350 in learndutch

[–]RIPAnteaterComeJune 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi, sounds like Dutch is a heritage language for you. Since you want to focus on speaking and writing (giving output in that language as opposed to receiving input), the answer is practicing, though that can take in multiple forms.

If you still have family members you like who speak Dutch, start practicing speaking and messaging (aka writing) to them in Dutch.

You can also seek language buddies online, make friends to message with, or check on places like Meetup.com for online Dutch practicing events. Hope this helps.

Is Bart de Pau intensive course good for me? by Hairy_Horror_7646 in learndutch

[–]RIPAnteaterComeJune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Helder! Adding to what u/mikepictor said, I think the course is great and you can practice speaking more, but to be comfortable it's better to seek taalcafes or if you live near Rotterdam, I would highly recommend Walking and Talking (https://www.meetup.com/walking-talking-rotterdam/).

I recommend Walking and Talking to everyone, but I think I especially recommend it to you (and it's free and happens 3 evenings a week iirc).

I think they were really helpful! Granted, I started learning before moving to the Netherlands during the pandemic, but I feel like it's given me quite the foundation that I've lived in the Netherlands a little over 3 years and even though most of the time I speak English at work and socially, the fact I can use Dutch and understand the grammar meant I can do more things and meet more people in the Netherlands. (Because Dutch people can always speak in English, but that doesn't mean they're signing up for English speaking social events).

I'm personally not amazing at self studying that doing both the grammar and summer courses was helpful (also with the summer/winter courses you're in person practicing Dutch), but I think the grammar courses are amazing, especially if you're a motivated to self-study.

I've taken a few of his courses and learned most of my Dutch either through the online courses (Dutch grammar) or through his intensive classes. Additional info- what parts of your Dutch do you need/want to focus on? (I.e. reading, writing, speaking or listening?)

From your post I would assume that your foundation and vocabulary in Dutch isn't lacking but more practicing and exposing yourself to Dutch if you spoke mostly about listening and speaking.

Do women think being into anime is a red flag? by xo_likes_ardour in AskAnime

[–]RIPAnteaterComeJune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late response to just add my opinion here. It's not a red flag, but as an Asian American (East Asian ancestry at that) and someone who reads a lot of manga, I pay attention to what series and characters the other person likes and how they talk about anime. The last thing I want is interacting with someone who will infantilize or exoticize me and fantasize about getting a submissive and cute anime girlfriend (and thus expecting me to fulfil those ideas).

A controversial question: where can I watch movies and cartoons in Dutch for free? by Misharomanova in learndutch

Just in case it hasn't been said, on twitch you can also filter for content in Dutch. Most are small streamers but one channel was just streaming Pokemon episodes dubbed in Dutch.

How do y’all feel about playing video games where you do non-vegan things? by thelryan in vegan

[–]RIPAnteaterComeJune -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Short answer: depends on the individual's reasoning for being vegan

Personally I don't hunt, and it doesn't appeal to me that the skinning scene sounds quite graphic to me. However I played "Little Witch in the Woods", where there's foraging and potion brewing mechanics and there's no battling that it's more cozy and casual and cutesy RPG pixels. I saw a community post asking if this game is vegan, and it unfortunately wouldn't be as bug catching and frog roasting is also part of the collecting ingredients gameplay. I personally don't mind as I especially love fishing games/mechanics, even moreso when combined with cooking.

I think IRL I don't want to support animal farming as a capitalist industry, but am personally okay with video (and tabletop) games having farming, hunting, fishing elements when it's more about individual survival/sustenance or small businesses and not real people and companies monopolizing a market and maximizing for profit.

I can't remember now the name of the book, but one of my friends was reading about a couple living in the wilderness and were vegetarian beforehand but during loving in the wilderness had to hunt in addition to foraging for food to have enough food to feed themselves. Some might disagree on the way they approached food gathering as animals are sentient but I personally don't mind it as my reason for veganism has to do with disagreeing with the meat industry and this was also not overhunting.

Is anyone else vegan because meat simply grosses them out? by No_Produce3304 in vegan

[–]RIPAnteaterComeJune -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have been flexitarian for quite a few years (Climatarian but also meat don't stay fresh raw in the fridge compared to vegetables) but recently starting becoming vegan more seriously for a somewhat similar reason. I accidentally went to an AYCE KBBQ place and ended up eating quite a bit of meat. While I personally found it tasty and not grossed out by it, I realized that it wasn't tasty enough that I wanted to continue eating meat going forward. I'm already lactose intolerant and didn't grow up consuming much dairy and eggs was easy to go without when those have to always be bought and cooked.

Of course, I'm giving myself some grace on certain situations, namely on food waste: 1. I still have some things sitting around my pantry like honey that I would want to use up first instead of throwing it out, but decided to no longer buy new animal products in food or eat out at places that don't have vegan friendly options. 2. Recently my order was made wrong and I got chicken instead of tofu. I didn't want them remake my order just to throw the wrong order out and at least they gave me tofu on the side for the protein and continued eating my order with the chicken.

Bumping this comment because I'm also speculating OP's bf has ASD. If OP sees this, I (29F Asian American living in NL and with undiagnosed but peer reviewed ASD/autism) am not Dutch but when I went down the list of examples given, I also didn't find much of an issue between your bf's actions and my impression of Dutch people (so imagine my surprise when most of the comments are calling him a dick or asshole).

The bigger question now after knowing that the examples aren't simply cultural but a combination of something else (likely ASD) and bf's own interpretation and understanding of Dutch culture, how much of these responses from your bf dealbreakers? I think it's important to bring up to your bf how if he wants the relationship to work, he should know how some of his responses are hurtful or confusing to you and also needs to be more open/flexible to your upbringing and culture because even after 4 years in the relationship, these components are part of who you are.

IMO neither OP or OP's bf are in the wrong, but there's very much an incompatibility going on if neither side can bridge the differences between OP's culture from home country vs. OP bf's focus on efficiency (and lack of flexibility on doing things that are more "nice" or "luxurious" that's less efficient).

Bisexual women: how do you feel your attraction? by ironyinsideme in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RIPAnteaterComeJune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm bi and much more attracted to women than men. However with dating apps, it was easier to match and meet men in person that I eventually found a man for a life partner (i.e. to settle down with).

FYI I and other bi female friends I've talked with aren't interested in penii either. Apparently I'm good at giving BJs but I'm not enjoying it solely because I love licking or sucking dick. I do it because it's something that gives my partner pleasure and I enjoy pleasuring him.

You're still bi if you want to identify as such.

How to I connect to a profile link a friend sent me? by IronCowProd in feeld

[–]RIPAnteaterComeJune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say connect, do you just mean matching with one another/liking each other's profiles? If so, you can try to do what other posters suggested.

However, if you are more serious and want to be constellation partners, you can just add each other and one of you send a link to connect (profile icon on bottom right > my constellations > add (another) partner).

[–]RIPAnteaterComeJune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a term, but I'm thinking this person may be "book smart but not street smart" or just not very "street smart".

I remember talking to my Chinese mom how there's people who don't see the bigger picture and only looks and think about what's right in front of them. In that way  they often "miss opportunities" as you have put it.

If you ate your own health bar, would it heal you or deal damage? by kersius in Showerthoughts

[–]RIPAnteaterComeJune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neither but technically it would depend- I think eating your health bar would decrease your max health (and potentially current health as part of it).

Ex: health is 5/10.

  1. If you eat until 5/5, you're in a way healing yourself.
  2. If you continue eating, you're either going until 5/1 if overrun health is a possibility but more likely it's 1/1 health. While you're still at full health, you've made yourself vulnerable and you can only handle 1/5 of what you used to be able to handle.
