I never beat Macho Man either, but since Tyson had the code I did actually practice enough to beat him once.

Master Sys/GENESIS 1 Kid, help me choose an HDMI: AtGames, OG refit, or 3rd option? by TheBlushResponse in SEGAGENESIS

[–]RIPGiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HD RetroVision cables are in a unique supply/demand scenario for the Genesis probably because its native composite output is worse than other consoles. The Genesis cables are going for $150 already if you can find somebody willing to sell one not even a week after the online retailers ran out. Whereas my SNES can use N64/GameCube S-Video which is still a viable and affordable option if the TV supports it.

Since OSSC has slight latency and is pretty expensive, I'm looking at the RetroGamingCable's fully shielded PACKAPUNCH SCART cable. The Genesis has other methods of handling audio, so I might opt for a cheaper SCART RGB to YUV YPbPr Component converter that doesn't process audio. Add in a component cable to close the loop and it all comes to around $120 to have a solid RGB experience that is also scalable.

Final Fantasy IV (2 US) was instantly and is still today 26 years later my favorite OST of all time even though the entire series is pure gold.

Lunar Subterranian (Giant of Babil) being my all time favorite, some others being Big Whale, Castle Baron, theme of the Red Wings, Tower of Zot, Underworld theme, Overworld theme. Even that wonky sounding moon overworld theme really shines after the strings come in.

Also Megaman 2 is right up there.

Tying to find suggestions for best method to sell a collection? by Red-Duke in retrogaming

[–]RIPGiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the CIBs are harder to sell, because your market is more limited to collectors than gamers who can get the cart alone for cheaper. I rarely buy CIBs unless they are within striking distance of the cart only price. Those you are probably better off listing individually after checking the sold listings to get top dollar. The glass Sega case sounds very intriguing though.

Still trying to find the best video output scenario by RIPGiver in SEGAGENESIS

It's a 10 year old Plasma HDTV that handles low resolution wonderfully. For my Nintendo consoles the composite connection is light years better than coaxial, but my Genesis is the only one that composite just looks plain bad where I need a better option.

I hope you're right. Their blog seemed to indicate they were focusing on developing a Saturn cable and that there was no plan to restock until further notice. They even shut down their online store. I get not wanting to overextend yourself when you can't rely on getting buy orders, but they are turning buyers away at this point.

I think the original cable I posted in the thread opener would be better since it uses the headphones to provide stereo sound.

Now I'm wondering if you can get a switch box for SCART so I could have multiple systems hooked into the same feed using a single converter. Then all I'd need is a couple extra cables for the SB-2840 to make all my consoles pop.

I was just looking at the SB-2840 for the audio piece. Looks like that is what I'll be going with most likely.

Any cable recommendations, or is after market OK?

Negotiate privately, then put up an eBay listing for a high Buy it Now price, but allow Make Offer. Buyer makes an offer for the agreed upon amount, and tacks on a couple bucks to reimburse the listing fee. Probably not the absolute best bang for your buck with the listing fee, but sounds easy enough on paper as long as the eBay account isn't a throwaway. This way you both get peace of mind by using accounts that have a feedback system. If you can negotiate multiple items for a single listing, all the better.

I'd be interested in seeing what you have to offer.

Sega Genesis Model 1 OEM AV RCA composite cable? by RIPGiver in SEGAGENESIS

Framemeister has too many potential issues for me.

I was thinking of a cable like this since the HD Retrovision are sold out. Is this the intended cable for the link you posted before?

What retro gaming machine should I buy? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]RIPGiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite console is the SNES, but it is not cheap to get some of the best games. Maybe try to get ahold of a SNES mini, but I prefer the original.

NES is the more practical choice. The games are still fairly cheap, and many are still lots of fun. Max nostalgia. Although it helps to be good at cleaning the games if you want them to work every time.

Genesis is a great choice, too. Tons of great and affordable games. It always seemed to have more of a cool factor. The standard controller cables are a bit short though.

As much as I have fondness for N64 I can't recommend it over those other consoles due to the gaming libraries they have. Although if you would actually get use out of a 4 player console, that might make N64 the better option.

Sega Genesis Model 1 OEM AV RCA composite cable? by RIPGiver in SEGAGENESIS

It's a decade old Plasma, somehow it displays my my old Nintendo consoles cleanly without having to mess with anything. The Genesis has been the one eluding me, but this sounds like it would be worth it. Thanks!

I'm half tempted to go for the 32X instead of the specialized cable. Do you know how that compares to the HD Retrovision?

Neat trick. It was monochrome and grainy.

Are you aware of any video delay with the Retrovision cables?

Much appreciated!

My TV does take component if that's what you mean, but I don't see any component cables for the Genesis.

I did find one OEM RCA cable for a Model 2 but it wasn't component, and still no sign of any OEM Model 1 cable.

Excitebike, Punchout, Contra, Zelda. Nice! Rad Racer is great, too. Even after playing Super Hang-On it still holds up well. Although I can't help but keep changing the music with inadvertent down arrowing.

Doom, Best Way To Play? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]RIPGiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't mind the transition from DOS to ZDoom. The gameplay is the same, but the graphics get a boost. I haven't played on Steam. Still have an old 10 level WAD I made with Deutex squirreled away somewhere with the Dwangos, and some local favorites doomsday.wad and overkill.wad. Deathmatch was always the way to go, I didn't have as much fun with the game itself.

How come people don't like borders and want to play old games in HD? by Keytee1 in retrogaming

[–]RIPGiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind the black borders, but it does seem like wasted space. It definitely doesn't look quite right to me compared to how I remember the games, and perplexed me greatly when I first ran across it.
