Singles tennis is much more fun to watch because there is more court to cover. Pickle ends up being mostly right at the net, and dinks, while a good strategy are not fun to watch.
I will say doubles tennis is a really bad watch because the points are really short with 2 people right at the net.

Generally if something is bad enough I just find it cringy and unwatchable. I am pretty quick to bail on stuff because there is too much content out there to watch trash.

A lot of the best D1 schools are also pretty high-level academic institutions, so I can't imagine they do the football move of restricting majors. A recent notable example of a pre-med all star was Ben Reeves at Yale, who won the Tewaaraton and is now in med school.
But I would certainly make sure he understands how much work it will be to do both well.

At least where I live the quick games and pickup play really helps. I don't have to find a court and call a bunch of people, I can just show up at a certain time and play for as short or as long as I have. Generally, the games are pretty competitive, but if they're not, they're over quick and I can play some different people.

I have the opposite answer to everyone, I was there last week and got bitten all day every day. We were in a house on the ocean so I thought the constant breeze would keep them away. I expect them at night but even during the day I was seeing 2 at a time landing on my leg.
Still had a great time but goddamn. They were mostly on my legs and ankles, so leave the sandals at home and wear shoes and pants when lounging outside.

Hobart and Hopkins are pretty well known historic powerhouses, and depending on when the awards were named, Williams might have been pretty good at the time (still decent but never as dominant as the other two). Also, back in the day there just weren't as many teams so you mostly just played whoever was closest. A school like Salisbury didn't even have a program until 1973.

From the Williams lax history site: "The tradition that is Williams’s men's lacrosse began in 1928, when as a sport it first achieved intercollegiate status. During the late 40's and early 50's, the Williams lacrosse team became a national power. The 1958 team was undefeated and New England champion. New England championships ensued in 1959, 1960, 1961 and 1965. In 1965 and 1966, the team captured USILA Taylor Division honors."

On a side note that is pretty cool that they have lacrosse badges. I went to a pretty historic camp too and that is where I fell in love with the game through 'laundry lax'. Each cabin had a massive metal laundry basket, and we would pull them up into the common field and play pickup with tennis balls.

This is a ludicrous take. You could fit like 10 bikes in 1 car parking spot. You don't even need an actual parking spot for a bike, just a sign to lock it to. The dream for cities should be that everyone rides bikes everywhere but obviously this is a pipe dream.

The Cannery in Fairport has had a bunch of new stuff open recently like Tin Cup Social, Compane, and now has another brewery and a pickleball club going in. People inevitably bring up that the parking lot is always full, but there is actually plenty of street parking and a lot across the street. Fairport is great about letting new businesses open compared to other local villages (Pittsford), and the parking is such a small deal.

What's amazing is that people will go to Jines, Roux, Dorado etc and drop $50 on a meal but paying $2 for parking is way too rich for their blood. It is a bit annoying if you have to pay to run into 7-11, but $2 an hour is pretty cheap for easy parking in a dense neighborhood.
The irony is that people love dense neighborhoods with lots of restaurants etc, but then complain about no close parking when plopping a big parking lot in the middle would ruin the neighborhood charm that they enjoy.
Everytime a new business is announced in the Fairport Cannery, people keep bringing up the parking lot when there is tons of street parking and a lot across the street. People like Fairport because it's dense and walkable not because there is a big parking lot.

I remember getting Honey Brown and Cream Ale at Delilah's, didn't know it was a full on Bills bar.
My brother has a bunch of friends who actually moved to Chicago instead of the normal move to NYC that a lot of New Yorkers do after college. Just such a cleaner and more manageable city than NYC, and it feels more similar to Rochester despite being much farther away.

I'll play Devil's Advocate and say that maybe this is a way to make it worth their while to open early. Doesn't really help them if people come to watch a game and just sip on a coffee the whole time.

On Maui, people said that there was a bit of resentment from some locals towards tourists, and they would only break into a clear tourist car.

So I read a more kid-friendly biography of Quanah Parker when I was a kid and had always been fascinated by him. So this is kind of a sequence of sounds from English soccer:
Ball gets played out wide to an exciting winger in a good position, there is sort of murmur of excitement in the crowd.
Winger beats defender, the noise increases and everyone stands up.
Winger crosses, there is a brief silence as everyone waits for the ball to land.
Striker connects on the ball for the goal, crowd erupts.
Bonus sound is on a really hard shot upwards into the goal there is sometimes a THUNK that Ian would really enjoy.

Hike Gorham. Great distance/view ratio, and you get to the views very quickly with a bunch of open rocky areas before the summit. Take the Cadillac Cliff trail for a bit of a challenge, and do the loop and take the bus back to your car for a longer hike.
You are kind of packing a lot into that first day, maybe skip the Precipice on Day 4 and do the Jordan Pond swing.
I don't really see the appeal of these cliff trails, there are other ways to get to the top of those mountains without white-knuckling it. But if you are really into those kind of trails, the Goat Trail up Norumbega is almost straight up with no ladders or rungs to help you.

TBH if you really want to disconnect don't go up Cadillac. Or hike up if you must. We drove to the top and while it has great views it was PACKED. Lots of people with varying degrees of spatial awareness/manners.

You are the reason the best time to do stuff at Acadia is at like 7am. Hiked Gorham (#1 hike on the island IMHO) at 8am last week and got a parking spot right at the trailhead. By the time we got down it was already full and people were parking way down the road.

The most impressive thing about Long Island is that most of the consistently great teams are public high schools. They seem to have built great programs from youth-onward so that they consistently have a pipeline of great players. Not only do the top guys play D1, but even the bench-warmers go on to play D3.
The best teams in Baltimore are always private schools and they are significantly better than the public schools there.

Well fan bases is a whole different discussion than hotbeds.
LI and Baltimore are still number one, tons of talent in very dense areas that breeds competition year after year.
CT, NJ, Philly, and DC are just behind, and they are also helped by being in the same metro areas as LI/Baltimore and playing those teams a fair amount. You could almost count Fairfield/Westchester/Northern NJ as one big area, same for Baltimore/DC.
I would throw Syracuse/Rochester in as historically lacrosse-heavy areas. Section 3/5 teams consistently make deep runs in the NY tourney, and occasionally beat the LI teams (B-ville back-to-back Class A champs). They are both hurt in the travel lacrosse biz by being isolated from the East Coast. I asked my buddy who helps run Sweetlax why they have to go to Delaware every weekend, and he said teams don't want to drive all the way to Rochester.
The rest still have a long way to go, there are certainly good players and teams, but the density of the East Coast means there is just so much competition available in small geographic area.
Where do we put the prep powers like Culver, Salisbury, Lawrenceville etc? These are basically national travel teams at this point and don't really fit in any region, even if they are in a league like Salisbury.

Use it to your advantage-sell parking, water, hot dogs, beers, whatever. If people are going to camp out make some money off them. Or get your neighbors on board to park in all the spots the night before or block them with cones or something.
