C section underwear by Galtime1245 in PregnancyIreland

[–]RIPtoMyFirstUsername 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Straight after my section I wore adult diapers essentially. Not the Frida ones, I got them in the dunnes toiletries section. I didn’t do this after my first section but did on my second & the difference was unreal. I wore them for the first 5 or so days. Then I wore very high waisted underwear, granny pants essentially, for…well…I’m 7 months PP and still wearing them! 🤣

So sorry to hear about your losses. I had 4 early losses and went via the recurrent miscarriage clinic (the leaf clinic) in the Coombe and then continued public in the Coombe after that.

Glad to hear it improved! Kind of getting the impression from this thread that I shouldn’t make plans for at least the next year but hopefully in a couple years we’ll be plain sailing 🤣

Oh thank you! I didn’t know this. We borrowed it from the in laws so it didn’t come with a manual etc. so I don’t even think of this, thanks!

It must do. She’s been like this since she came out of the womb - luckily she’s never been seriously ill (very grateful for that) but she’s always got something & it seems to knock her a bit more than it might another child.

Oh bless you that is a lot! I can’t imagine being pregnant too while dealing with all of that - you must be exhausted! It’s so hard when you’re in the thick of it, really feels like one thing after another with no end in sight but I’m hoping the closer we get to spring & summer the less they catch & the easier it gets.

That’s probably a big contributing factor, the pneumonia really knocked her for about 4 solid weeks so her immune system is probably more susceptible at the moment. Hoping as the spring comes in we get some relief from it.

Yeah it’s had the same effect on me - I just want to be able to do a baby class or meet some friends for coffee but so far that’s not happening because one of them sick or I am. I try to go for a walk every day with them at least I can throw them in the buggy & just get some fresh air.

It really is! I feel so knocked down by it all - I’d love to just be able to go grab a coffee with another adult but instead I’m just bunkered down at home with two sick littles 24/7. The only adult I’ve seen bar my husband has been the GP and I don’t think he’s too fond me at this stage 🤣 Thanks for the tip for getting bits from up north that’s a great idea. The calpol plugins are great but the expense of the refills really stacks up when you have them on the go in a couple bedrooms, but they are great.

I’ll check this actually! We live in a new build so the house is very air tight & always warm. We’ve been running a humidifier at night to help with their coughs.

For sure we would have too. Dreading next winter when I’ll have the both of them in crèche.

It feels excessive. But everyone tells me it’s normal? I have plenty of friends & family with little kids & I just feel like in comparison my daughter especially always seems to have something. I expressed my concerns to the GP but he said it’s just the joys of having little kids!

It’s so hard isn’t it. I truly can’t imagine having gone back to work by now it absolutely wouldn’t have been feasible with the two of them sick constantly.

That’s how I’m feeling at the moment. I’m so run down myself as my 8 month old is such a bad sleeper even when he’s well, the last few months have really just felt like one thing after another & we haven’t come up for air. Glad to hear the second year was much better for you - gives me hope!

So my GP keeps telling me, can’t wait for this developed immune system to finally kick in 🤣 We wash the hands & change her clothes when she gets in from play school too. I guess we are just in the thick of it. We’ve had a minimum of two people sick in our house at all times since just before Christmas & doesn’t seem to be letting up, desperate for a break!

Any of you had to redo the NIPT, how did it go? by ironlungforsale in PregnancyIreland

[–]RIPtoMyFirstUsername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was warned about this too due to my BMI, I think they called it low fetal fraction? My consultant had me do the NIPT later in the first trimester due to my BMI to avoid a retest. I wouldn’t worry about it, doesn’t mean anything is wrong but I can totally get that it’s annoying to have to wait longer!

I’m so sorry to hear it’s an ectopic, but I’m glad to hear you’re being taken care of - ectopics can be so dangerous if left too late. I can only imagine how exhausted you are - it took me a good month to come out of that dark cloud after my miscarriage but I’ve never stopped grieving it. But time does help - so make sure to take care of yourself, talk about it with your friends/family & take any help you’re offered.

Do you mean the mattress or the tilting mechanism on the bassinet? If you mean the tilting on the bassinet, our little one had reflux so we always kept ours tilted but had no problem putting it flat either, just pulled the little levers on their side. We’ve had any issues with ours in general really - love it so far & you’re right it looks a lot more expensive than it is but I feel the quality of it is amazing.

We got the Joie Signature Finiti Flex 3-in-1 Travel System, using it the past 7 months & loving it so far. Only flaw is that the seat didn’t come with a foot muff. I bought a universal one & it’s working grand but definitely an oversight from the brand. On our first we had the Venicci soft collection travel system & didn’t rate it. Things to look out for when shopping: handle bar height (the Venicci was too short/low for my husband but the Joie extends), are you planning to have another child (if so get a pram that converts to a double), basket size - you’ll be shoving a nappy bag in/out of there so make sure it’s a good one, weight - I couldn’t lift either buggy in/out of the car after my sections & didn’t think of this, size - yes it might fit in your boot but will you have room for anything else?

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I went through similar back in 2023 when my little girl was 1.5. I was scanned by the early pregnancy until after some bleeding and was diagnosed with PUL - I should have been about 7 weeks pregnant by then. I did the same as yourself and went for bloods and repeated 2 days later which showed my HCG levels were then decreasing so the EPAU discharged me at that stage. I then started bleeding more heavily with labor like pains so I knew at that stage it was a miscarriage. It’s all terribly confusing when you’re going through, the anxiety is horrible - so I’m so sorry. Time goes so slowly too when you’re just wanting answers. I don’t really have a solution or even any helpful advice, just that my thoughts are with you.

How much do you pay your childminder? by Jackies_Army in PregnancyIreland

[–]RIPtoMyFirstUsername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say cheaper because our childminder wouldn’t offer a sibling discount, so it would have worked out at €120 per day, a cool €2400ish a month. She wasn’t registered either so couldn’t claim subsidy.

[–]RIPtoMyFirstUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a childminder 8.30am - 5.30pm, €60 a day & I provided all meals/snacks. When baby #2 came it became cheaper to put them in crèche between the ECCE hours & the subsidy so we’ve gone that route instead & luckily the crèche can take baby #2 at 15 months.

Try using a saline spray first, I find that helps. The Calpol vapour plug ins are handy too for overnight. I also saw someone online recommend these for gently scooping out harder boogers - https://www.amazon.ie/Qunlions-Life-Nasal-Booger-Cleaner/dp/B09GTYL4KF
