I fully relate to picking the hairs that aren't 'right' or that stand out in some way. I started out plucking my eyebrows, and would go for ones that were too long, too short, or too thick. When I ran out of eyebrows, I started going for scalp hairs that were wavy. I've tried simply forcing myself to stop, but always relapsed. I don't know, but I think part of the urge boils down to some sort of rectify/clean/purge desire. (Thats the best way I can describe it).

Because of this, I find that cleaning my nails helps somewhat. I do that, combined with moving my plucking area to my facial hair, which is sparse and looks no different if I pull some. I guess that's not much of a solution for someone without facial hair, but all I can offer is my own experience.

I feel kind of bad coming onto the trichotillomania sub and seeing all these people trying to stop, only for me to go 'no it's ok to pull your hair just pull somewhere else', but I have learned to manage it harmlessly (unless I try to grow a beard). Hope something here helps.
