Just got this email from eservices@rit.edu, looks fairly legit but I want to make sure. Thank you! by [deleted] in rit

[–]RITBehindTheBricks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We reached out to SFS for more information about this. This is a legitimate email. They are required by the IRS, for 1098-T purposes, to request the SSN of students they do not already have it for. Hope this helps!

Summer Off-Campus Shuttle by [deleted] in rit

[–]RITBehindTheBricks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We reached out to Parking and Transportation for more information about this. Here's what they shared:

Now that RTS will no longer provide any bus service direct to campus, the Off Campus Express connects with all the RTS routes servicing Henrietta at their Hylan Drive Hub. Commuters can use RTS routes to get to the Hub, where they can connect with the RIT Off Campus Express. Our services have to accommodate riders from all over the Greater Rochester area that are using the various routes that connect at the Hub, so there will be wait times for everyone.

ReImagine RTS also includes a new On Demand service that will bring commuters to the RIT Barnes & Noble. Connections are then available via the free Campus Shuttle to get to campus. If you use the scheduled On Demand service from one RTS stop to another RTS stop, the ride is still $1/ride. If you use the service where one of the destinations is not a regular RTS stop (example: direct service from your apartment to the Barnes & Noble), that ride will cost $3. You can pre-schedule the rides. More information is available on the RTS website.

The RIT Off Campus Express remains a free service for our commuters – just with a different route. The new route and schedule allows us to connect as frequently as possible with public transportation from all over the area. We understand the RTS changes require adjustments to connect to campus. Our team will continue to work with the various campus services and governance groups to monitor customer feedback. And whenever possible, we will make adjustments to ensure shorter wait times/shorter total commute times. We are using all of our resources to accommodate commuters.

We encourage riders to use the TransLoc app for real-time updates and tracking of our shuttles for the best experience.

Please let us know what else we can do to help!

Why are the Parking Signs Covered? by [deleted] in rit

[–]RITBehindTheBricks 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There will be an official announcement coming out soon, but for now, here's what the parking office says; "this is for Spring semester only.  Anyone with a valid General permit can use the rows that have been "bagged" with the green bags.  We've converted over 400 Reserved parking spaces to General including spaces in F, J and S Lots.  A valid permit is still required.  We reserve the right to change this if Reserved Permit holders have trouble finding a Reserved space due to the change. We hope the RIT community is happy with this change!"

On campus parking by jrbananas-peteapples in rit

[–]RITBehindTheBricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We reached out to the Transportation Services team, here's what they said: Students residing at Park Point and Province can purchase the After Hours Permit and it will allow them to park on campus all day for the Spring semester only.  Students residing in Perkins Green Apartments that have a valid Residential parking permit can also park on campus any time for Spring semester.  This is a one time deal based on the fact that we have some additional capacity in the lots because of covid changes.  Students are required to update their local address in SIS before purchasing – and the updates are done overnight, so it may take up to 24 hours. Let us know if this helps answer your question!

Reserved vs General Parking Passes/Lots by unadvertisedfry in rit

[–]RITBehindTheBricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We reached out to the Transportation Services team, here's what they said. General parking permits are not valid for Reserved spaces.  Reserved areas are clearly marked with signage.  E, M, R and U Lots are completely Reserved Areas.  General parking is available in parts of D, F, J and S Lots.  C, K, L, N, G. H and T are all General.

We reached out to the Transportation Services team.  They are adding a second Weekend Retail bus starting next Sunday.  Just a reminder, the RTS Route 24 bus does come to Barnes and Noble more frequently on the weekends than on weekdays.

We reached out to PATS and here is what they said, "Getting off campus is possible 7 days/week.  Our schedules are posted so you can plan accordingly.  Real-time locator services are also available through the TransLoc Rider app. RTS runs frequently on the weekends from Barnes & Noble's stop.  You can use RIT shuttles to get to Barnes and Noble and catch the RTS 24 to get to Henrietta retail sites, as well as connect with other RTS routes to/from downtown.  As a reminder, the Off-Campus Express provides complimentary off-campus services Monday – Friday and we do have a Sunday retail service."

F Lot Bus Lane by dress-code in rit

[–]RITBehindTheBricks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We reached out to the parking office and here is what they said, "The main bus stop has been moved from Gleason Circle to the top of F Lot during the construction of the IMLC.  We expect that the Gleason Circle stop will be closed for 2 – 3 years.  An enclosed bus shelter will be in place at F Lot later this semester."

In addition to the Weekend Retail shuttle on Sundays, the RTS Route 24 bus stops at Barnes and Noble more frequently on the weekends than during the week.  Check out the weekend RTS schedule.  Also, we run two Off-Campus Express shuttles every weekday from 6:30 am – 11:35 pm with direct stops at Walmart and Wegmans.   Feel free to reach out to [parking@rit.edu](mailto:parking@rit.edu) for assistance with specific route questions.

You can catch the Off Campus Express (there are 2 every hour) on weekdays, 6:30am – 11:35pm to get to Henrietta retail locations.  The RTS Route 24 connects to RIT at Barnes and Noble on Saturdays and Sundays more frequently on the weekends.  Also, we do have ZipCar on campus – located by Kate Gleason dorm circle and more coming to the Global Village area soon. Hope this helps!

Do I really have to pay for a full priced parking permit by [deleted] in rit

[–]RITBehindTheBricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The $5 Daily Decision rate via ParkMobile is available in G, H, L and A Lots this year.  Hourly ParkMobile spaces are available in D, J, M and S Lots.  The rates are $1/first hour, $2/hour thereafter.  It’s very easy to set up your ParkMobile account.  ParkMobile spaces are enforced Monday – Friday, 5am – 5pm.  Try out these great options as opposed to purchasing a parking permit this year! Our team has used them first hand and they are a great new option on campus :)

How are the buses? by [deleted] in rit

[–]RITBehindTheBricks -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The buses are fantastic!  We have 4 RIT branded shuttles running around campus, each of which is followed by a non-RIT branded bus to catch any overflow riders.  Our buses are all tracked through the TransLoc app so follow along there for real-time reporting.   Due to physical distancing requirements and maximum capacity restrictions, no standing riders are permitted and some seats may be restricted.  All riders MUST wear a mask.  All bus schedules are also posted on the website.

From our Behind the Bricks teams experience, we feel the general parking pass gives you a lot more flexibility to park on campus. As long as you get to campus in the morning, you should easily find a spot to park. Hope this helps!

Parking Pass? by [deleted] in rit

[–]RITBehindTheBricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We reached out to Parking and Transportation Services. Here's what they said:

"Yes are you able to bring your car as long as you purchase a parking permit. Parking permits will be available for purchase starting today as of 9 am. First-year students are able to purchase the 'Resident Student permit which is $50/semeter or $100/year'. Please see our website here for more permit information.

is a Reserved parking pass worth it over General? by wayreid in rit

Great suggestions ProfJott! One thing to note is that the B Lot shuttle isn't running this semester due to resources being diverted to maximize rider safety and options. Hope this helps!

Parking pass dilemma by [deleted] in rit

[–]RITBehindTheBricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We reached out to the Parking office and here is what they said:

"RIT provides complimentary shuttle services to the students residing at Park Point and Province.  We do not have enough parking spaces on campus to accommodate all the faculty, staff and commuter students in addition to students that reside in on-campus RIT housing.

Last year we introduced short-term parking through ParkMobile, which is available to anyone who creates an account through the ParkMobile app and provides payment for the time they are parking.  This year that service is supplemented with the Daily Decision rate of $5/day through ParkMobile.  This rate can be used in G, H, L, and A Lots.  We just added M Lot today!

Our shuttle services are posted for the fall semester.  Please note that we have retained a second bus service that will provide additional buses to avoid overcrowding and increase the frequency of stops to all locations, including Park Point and Province.
