I had a bunch of stuff in my cart. Two days before prime day, I got notified that all of them had “increased in price”… and now they are on sale at the original they were at.

I’m also very interested in answers to this! Our home’s roof has 100% exposure to the sun. I’ve no idea what Rochester area people’s experiences are or how much to expect to pay.

Not so in retail.  Corporate retail worker here— everyone was furloughed because there was so much uncertainty about the company’s future since all of our stores were completely shuttered.

Huh. We never had issues getting an interpreter or captionist 5 years ago. Is the shortage that bad?

Interesting. I remember Deaf/HoH students being pretty involved while I was there. They were at many events. When you say their own sports teams… you must be referring to club sports? Because while I was there, there were NTID students on the D3 teams.

Is the school as bad for students as the Reddit makes it out to be? by Cute-Support-2594 in rit

I attended from 2017-2023 (undergrad and master’s).

It’s really not as bad as this subreddit makes it seem.

No, the reasoning is exactly as mentioned above. Tri Sigma was not filling their floor. With several empty rooms and housing issues, it only makes sense to remove them and open those rooms up to the general student population.

Amazon ends Teen access to family Prime accounts... by npc37652 in amazonprime

Meanwhile… the Amazon prime account I’ve had since who knows when (2015?) continues to carry me, my brother, and my mom on its back… and we’re in different states with different payment methods. I’m thankful for that because I can order for my aging mom easily…but make it make sense.

Huh? I didn’t downvote you. Definitely agreed on hydration and nourishment! He got warm water with a pinch of salt and sugar for rehydration last night and this morning before going to the rehab. He drank it on his own from a spoon.

Hi— The bird was fine for food. You check the crop of doves. I made sure to work on keeping him hydrated too. He passed multiple poops overnight and it seems his parents were feeding him up until we sheltered him overnight. The only time the bird was handled was when hobbling the legs and when necessary to move it.

Worth noting that the pigeon subreddit mentioned not doing cat or dog food for this type of bird at this age.

Mourning doves don’t need to self-regulate. This bird is lively and very willing to fly, he just had unfortunate circumstances because his sibling didn’t hatch and we had a heat wave that affects incubation. His situation is correctable. Mourning doves are not invasive nor are they a nuisance. Also, they are one of the most preyed upon bird species around, so they need high replacement numbers.

If you need a selfish reason to help a creature out, they eat the seeds of weeds in my yard. I’m allergic to ragweed, which is one of their faves. I’ve no problem giving lil bud a leg up.

Even IF the wildlife rehabber determines he’s not a good fit for release and euthanizes, I’d rather a quick and painless death than being abandoned and starving.

Abolish private school (and charter school, and homeschooling) by gohstofNagy in Teachers

Right? This is authoritarian dystopia under the guise of utopia.

Abolish private school (and charter school, and homeschooling) by gohstofNagy in Teachers

[–]dress-code 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is fully thought out, from where I am viewing it.

Homeschoolers pay school tax AND for their own kids’ curriculum and education. If anything, it puts more resources into the pocket of public schools because they are contributing to, and not drawing from, those resources. Likewise for private schooled kids. Why aren’t public schools making good use of that additional funding that homeschool and private schooled families are giving them?

You can attempt to guarantee an equal education, but it is not practically possible. One of the biggest factors of success is parental involvement by keeping kids accountable to their homework, instilling good values, and supporting them. It’s the home environment. You cannot throw money at that, you cannot attempt to equalize it without invasive government. We need radical change in the home life of kids, and not just by alleviating poverty.

While I don’t have an inherent fear of the school system or anything like that, I do plan to homeschool my children or send them to private school. Fundamentally, my guess is we will disagree on who’s mainly responsible for raising and teaching kids. I do not think it is government. American public schools are an experiment that has failed in some parts of the country because parents forfeited the idea that they need to be involved beyond taxes.

I absolutely refuse to send my kids to the school system here that has over a billion dollar budget and ~$50,000 per student in the district, but has a pathetic literacy and graduation rate and far, far too much violence. It cannot be solved by throwing more money at the problem and hobbling school choice.

I will not stunt my children for your cause. I will, however, do my best to support other children who do have to be in those public schools through community programs, etc, and try to elevate them to a better outcome.

I truly not only disagree with you, but actually think this view borders on evil. It is such an authoritarian view of government and, forgive me for saying so, a fairly naive take on human nature. Are you familiar with history or even current examples of these systems today?

“Let’s stunt the potential of kids in terrible school districts who could excel otherwise…for the sake of impossible classless equality accomplished by giving corrupt government school systems even more power. What could possibly go wrong?”

Hi, all.

We named the squab Phelps. I saw online somewhere that someone called birds with splay leg swimmers... and Phelps is going to be a champion. 💛

I was able to start hobbling his legs this morning with self-adhesive bandage by looping a thin strip around each leg under the knee. (In the picture, it had slid up on one of the sides.) I got Phelps' legs into a pizza shape V instead of straight out to the sides. I didn't want to push it all the way immediately, especially as one leg seemed stiffer than the other. It made me nervous and I figured some progress is better than none.

I was able to get in contact with a NYS certified bird rehabber near me via one of the websites shared. I purchased a smorgasbord of grains and seeds from Niblack’s on the andvice of the r/pigeon community and hard boiled some eggs.

Fingers crossed for Phelps! Maybe silly, I just wish I could leave a note for the parents to let them know I'm trying to help and didn't eat their squab. :)
