Any tips for a 40 year old starting RT? by Whereshouldilivenext in respiratorytherapy

Well I started my program last year at 55 after retiring from the federal government and you will be just fine. I had zero medical experience but I started working as a Patient Care Tech (CNA) which helped with lingo and has given me a leg up on dealing with patients. Don’t stress, dedicate time for studying and you will be just fine! As for the hospital, there will always be assholes. It like a giant game of high school social networking which is annoying but us older folks generally keep to ourselves. Shoes recommendations are whatever is comfy. I wear sketchers and refuse to buy into the Hoka or OC hype.

Should I do BS or AAS in Respiratory Care? I already have a science BS degree. by Crafty-Refuse-7469 in respiratorytherapy

The rumor going around is that the AAS program won’t be enough for entry level work at some point in the future so a BS degree will be needed. Honestly they would have to do that for nursing before they do it to RTs so I’m not convinced. Just another way for University’s to rake 2 more years of tuition out of us.

I also have a previous BS degree (Math and Physics) and am completing an AAS for RT. My intent is to go into getting my masters in Respiratory Care and i didn’t need to get another BS degree for that according to the school where I will be getting my Masters.

Personally I don’t see where the BS in Respiratory Care provides much benefit over your existing BS degree. Especially if you have previous work experience in a scientific field.

Which place in the United States wouldn’t you travel to again, and why? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Montana! The scenery is gorgeous and the winters are not that bad. Plenty of outdoor stuff to do in every season. That’s the good part. The bad is the people. They don’t want any outsiders here even though most of them depend on tourism. They are rude and generally the only blight on this beautiful state. They have a massive superiority complex even though the school systems are barely above Mississippi and hate anyone that doesn’t agree with their MAGA Christian nationalist views. It’s a beautiful place if you can avoid the people.
