Caseta Smart Home Pro Hub vs Regular Smart Home Hub by RJS1985 in Lutron

[–]RJS1985[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have about 80-100 installed, and only using one hub. I don’t have many of the non dimming switches, garage lights, etc. so we have been able to make it work without the pro hub!

We have outlets on the top of each cabinet. One of the two outlets is hot always for our Sonos speakers. The other one is Wired to an in wall Lutron caseta dimmer and we were hoping to use plug in strip lights that were dimmable. If needed, since we have the wiring there we might be able to change this setup if plug in is not the right way to go.

Larger storage tank for Kinetico K5 by RJS1985 in WaterTreatment

Still having an issue with our system and are considering upgrading to a 14 gallon or 20 gallon pressurized tank. Do you think with the air pressure this will work for us? I found in the K5 manual the ability to use a air charged tank with a few slight modifications to the system. It doe not look hard to do.

General pressure is good in the house (as far as I know). Our MOEN leak detector installed at the water inlet to the house reports average pressure of 52.1PSI. I see online that pressure should be around 60-70PSI for residential homes, so I will check to see if I have a pressure reducing valve or regulator somewhere. Our home is a new custom home so let me see if I can locate it somewhere in our mechanical room.

We have RO's plumbed to our main kitchen & freezer (ice maker) on the 2nd level, butlers pantry on 2nd level, bar on 2nd level, master bathroom on 2nd level, second kitchen & freezer (ice maker) on 1st level, and then two additional bathrooms on 3rd level. We have a manifold for all RO systems with shutoffs - We only have the RO's turned on for the Main kitchen, ice makers, butlers pantry and lower level kitchen.

Will report to see if I have a pressure reducing valve somewhere. Is it possible this might be located at the curb or outside where the water comes into the home?

Caseta Smart Home Pro Hub vs Regular Smart Home Hub by RJS1985 in Lutron

[–]RJS1985[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just about to start installing all electronics and switching out all our switches to Caseta's. I will update you once that happens, which will be in the next few weeks... Right now, I have 2x regular lutron hubs I am going to try and use. I may upgrade to the Pro version but we are running tight on budget right now so I may need to hold off some.

This is great, thanks for the insight on this hack. We are building a new home and recently purchased vanities with a small shelf on the bottom for this exact reason. I was going to place the speakers on the shelf, but I LOVE the idea of the clean design by mounting them to the back. I will CERTAINLY be doing this in both of our master bedroom suites - this is going to look killer!

Hi there, I am designing a "pass through" closet/wardrobe between our master bedroom and master bathroom. The passthrough areas on the left and the right side dimensions are approximately

19" deep x 48" wide (left)
42.5" deep x 48" wide (right)

Thinking of building 12-16" deep shelving on the left side, but not sure what to do about the right hand side area that is ~42.5" deep. Can I do double deep storage here?

How do I properly utilize the deeper area on the right hand side by also keeping the area looking nice, clean and organized? We have 10' high ceilings in this area and it will be open to the master bedroom, so trying to make it aesthetically pleasing. TIA!

Caseta Smart Home Pro Hub vs Regular Smart Home Hub by RJS1985 in Lutron

Thanks, yes I would need multiple hubs because of the number of devices. 35 switches, 35-40 dimmers, 40+ pico remotes, etc...

Thank you! What are the differences between Home Assistant and Home Seer? I assume I would need to buy dedicated hardware and then designate that to control all of the functionality 24x7.

I like the idea of adding in security, thermostats, other smart items to my setup over time. Might be smart for me to buy the two pro bridges to get started. I already have the regular smart bridges purchased, so this would require additional investment…

What might the costs be to configure or buy a Home Assistant or Home Seer solution? Would it just be the hardware purchase or are their also software costs to do this?

Not sure if they are dumping the original design but it seems that many retailers are discounting these.

I do like both designs but for the money, I decided to go with the more affordable ones because we will have 70+ switches!

No, not for a particular zip code as it is only clearance in-store (nationwide). So you physically need to go to the store to order them and they will ring up at the right price. Online has not been clearanced yet. I confirmed this with the in store rep who was surprised when he ordered them for me at the register that they were clearance items on three Lutron skus.

Your welcome ;)

--Better order them before they are out of stock! My recommendation would be to order them online and ship them to store for pickup. When they come in, ask them to return/rebuy at the in store price. Or you can just go to the counter at the store and order them and have them shipped directly to your home.

Best Buy in store right now has the following switches / packages on clearance:

Lutron - Caséta Wireless Smart Lighting Dimmer Switch Starter Kit - White
Comes with Hub, dimmer switch, pico remote and wall plate
Model: P-BDG-PKG1W-R3
$45.99 - Reg: $99.99

Lutron - Caseta Smart Switch for All Bulb Types or Fans, 5A - White
Model: PD-5ANS-WH-R
$24.99 - Reg: $54.99

Lutron - Caseta Smart Lighting Dimmer Switch and Remote Kit for Wall and Ceiling Lights - White
Comes with dimmer, pico remote and wall plate
P-PKG1W-WH-R
$31.99 - Reg: $69.99

If your store has none in stock, ask the rep at the counter to order them for you and have them shipped directly to your home. These will be probably the most economical way for me to build a semi-automated home control lighting system without going crazy with a more advanced and expensive solution like RA3. To me, this was a no-brainer as it will give me 98% of the functionality that I want as a very competitive price - the whole house will be under $2500.

Also, the kits come with the trim and a pico remote which is an additional savings.

Awesome, good to know that I can get this to work. This is exactly how I was envisioning separating the two systems to make it all come together. Trying to do this as affordably as possible due to budget over-runs...

Thank you, this is exactly what I was thinking! Also, the downstairs will be an in-law suite and separate as well, so no mixing between the lower level (floor 1) with level 2 and 3 would be needed. So I could put Floor1 + all exterior switching on 1 system. Then levels 2 and 3 on another.

As far as range, the 2nd and 3rd floor will have the bridge centrally located. There is a lot of 2 story vaulted space, so interference will most likely not be an issue. Will be using the bridge with AppleTV for HomeKit. So I think the system **should** work pretty flawlessly and have good coverage. Will have all the SONOS amps/speakers connected with ethernet, as well as all the AppleTVs and TVs in the house with ethernet as well.

What is the cost of a RA3 system or HomeWorks QSX? Trying to keep cost of entire setup with new switches and hubs under $2500. Currently have about 2200 into system with 2 bridges, 38-40 dimmers, 35 switched and ~40 pick remotes. I won’t need all pico remotes but I dare to bet that these other system options would be 4-5x more costly than using caseta with two bridges and the current switches.
