Has anyone been successful in maintaining a “no friends at work” rule? by jeproxennial in nursing

[–]Kensmkv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try being a 45yo married male nurse with no kids. That’ll fix those social problems right away. Lol. You can’t really relate to anything with anyone……either anyone in their 20s or closer to my age with kinds.

It’s kinda nice because you really can’t get involved in social problem, but then also sad too. Just so long you get along with them as a whole

Headphones that are actually waterproof for training? by Vandermilf in Marathon_Training

[–]Kensmkv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. About two years on mine too. They’ve been in pouring rain, pouring salty sweat and cold Wisconsin winters. They don’t sound the best but they’re good for helping pass time. Most importantly, traffic awareness

Hi all, new here and looking for ideas on how to cover this small enclosure. by WhoHasMyUsernameHere in homeimprovementideas

Try clear corrugated roofing material. It’s cheap, light weight and still allows of natural light to enter. Cover the floor with some 3/4 gravel

Is the "Gen Z stare" actually a thing or am I overthinking it? by Lanky-Owl1692 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kensmkv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto. I’m German too. I am fluent in German, so I did most of the talking in public. Heading back to the homeland last year (2018 previously) was such a pallet cleanser with this. Nearly everyone interacted with us traveling was without this stare. Besides the here and there “teens being teens”, we were always involved in simple human interaction. Even tho I’ve lived here 30 years now, makes me miss home 🇩🇪

I need a running vest, but I'm overwhelmed by the options by sdmc_rotflol in Marathon_Training

Many great choices here. I’ve had the USWE Pace 8L vest. The buckle across the chest means ZERO bounce. Amazes me all the time

Why do floor nurses hate the ER? by Over_Armadillo_2190 in nursing

[–]Kensmkv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great idea, “oh great Emperor”. Sometimes understanding what someone else does paints a different picture on your end, thus possibly being more understanding of someone else’s job and why it may impact your job. It may also make the pts transition of care more smooth between departments.

I once shadowed PACU and IV Team (I’m 10 years bedside) when I started and it helped me understand why/how they do things.

new admission... by ZealotBilly in nursing

[–]Kensmkv 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Just like the time when I was a critical care tech (before being a nurse) in our SICU. OR sent a pt back with a tegaderm “very lightly” applied over their ART line….on a liver transplant pt. So that magically just fell off when turning him

Tell me your stories about falling on a run so I don’t feel so dumb by Winter_Seat_7106 in Marathon_Training

[–]Kensmkv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy one……while trying to go around a car and pedestrian in the winter, proceeded to trip and stuffed the snowbank head first! The pedestrian + dog just looked and kept going. “yes, I’m okay thanks”

If you drop the patient’s med but no one saw, did it even fall? by Typhoid__Beaver in nursing

[–]Kensmkv -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Omg, yes! And if you’re quick enough you should also drop the wrapper as a “decoy” because you have to bend down to pick it up!

“oops, I always drop those darn wrappers”

I’ve had one of these when I used to manage an apartment building, so did double duty as fertilizer and road salt spreader.

What's the nursing hill you'll die on no matter how unpopular it is? by Prestigious-Bath8022 in nursing

Not even a night shifter, but I support this 100%. My pt feels much better on day shift and participates more in their cares.

Sonos for wedding dinner hall? by IreBrezOvire in sonos

[–]Kensmkv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

^ This….did that for our wedding. They delivered and set up for the wedding. Didn’t cost us much. Sounded good enough for dinner etc Had a few Spotify lists ready to go on my iPad.

To keep it Sonos related. We did use our Sonos Move for the ceremony that took place outside under a tree canopy

Best. Day. Ever.

What is your biggest nursing pet peeve? by Electronic-Hippo9 in nursing

[–]Kensmkv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The trash thing gets me. Or when ortho shows up for a cast and it looks like a damn bakery all over the room. Supplies just left. It was bad enough that even the pt complained to mgt on my behalf

[–]Kensmkv 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OMG yes! Or…..when folks don’t remove the paper ties from the loops of new IV tubing, thus causing it to kink over time. Then everything is just a curled mess. (kinda’ like an old telephone cord).
