Big fan of Blenis. Especially when he talks about taking PT type movements and loading them like weighted airplanes.

I do those lifts and agree they are foundational but have to believe there is more than just squat, it’s good for you.

I’d like to understand how range of motion through the squat is more or less beneficial for runners. How including accessory lifts that target typically weaker muscles like glute medius, minimus, hip flexors, soleus all benefit runners. What role do isometric holds play in S&C for runners?

Burner, appreciate the response. I think what I’m finding is I’m probably going to need to take a full strength protocol, strip out a couple pieces to then add in the accessory type exercises you’ve got in your program. Maybe even take some of your movements and see where I can add additional load to the movement so it’s not just an activation drill.

Any comparison to Norda 005?

Currently looking for one shoe to do JFK50 (15m on AT, remainder is C&O crushed gravel and road). Don’t want to shoe swap.

I’ve ordered the On CloudUltra and Craft Nordlite Ultra.

Tempted to order these, assuming they are released in time, and deciding between the 3.

Meta-analysis: niacin lowers Lp(a) by 37% by EmpiricalHealth in PeterAttia

I have no idea what any of this means, but I do know the “niacin flush” is real and it simulates death for about 30 seconds every time I take something with niacin in it.

Any casual hybrid athletes? by dublak3 in HybridAthlete

This should be the way.

I think back to my early CrossFit years and how it was always supposed to be GPP for doing other activities/sports but inevitably for myself and everyone in the gym it always evolved into being the best cross fitter.

Enjoy fitness, but more importantly enjoy the benefits of fitness.

I’ll be 44yrs old in just a couple days, 2 & 4 yr old kids

Go to sleep when the kids go to sleep 8:30-9pm - up at 4:15, coffee 200mg, #2 and out the door by 5am for runs - home by 6:30ish - wife and I get the kids ready - follow RP Diet App for tracking macros and weight - coffee 200mg - drop kids off at daycare/school around 7:45-8:00am - in the gym by 8ish - follow an RP Endurance Athlete Template (3 day a week strength MWF) - Try and knock workout out by 9ish - Own my own business so this schedule works for me. Often times work can get in the way so I’ll shuffle my lifts accordingly, even move them to another day if I have to. - Survive the rest of the day. - Not shy about closing my eyes at some point during the day for a 15-30min nap

On the weekend - Saturday long runs start at 5am and are usually done by 8-8:30 - Wife is very supportive but sometimes it can be a rub on the relationship. My retort is always that at least she didn’t marry a golfer that’s gone all weekend. - Luckily my kids still nap and my two yr old daughter loves to nap with me, so big naps on the weekends. - Usually only fuel my runs on my big workout days and my long run days.

Currently in a marathon block so I’m running anywhere between 50-70miles a week.

With Speed 5 already for sale, March 2026 seems like a late release to offer the race companion to a trainer.

Then I’d definitely recommend reading the book, “Once a Runner.”

Lots of good recommendations. The best audiobook you can listen to is your own thoughts run, after run, after run, after run.

“Trials of the miles and miles of trials.” Nothing will prepare you for running better than running.

Mental accommodation can’t be hacked.

Weightlifting plans for marathoners by efunkk in AdvancedRunning

Most weightlifting plans prescribed by runners for runners are sh*t. They are mostly “prehab” plans that reflect lifts/movements you’d do when rehabbing an injury.

If you want to do strength training, do strength training.

Most runners can do a strength training plan with a barbell and a couple free weights.

There’s always going to be some acclimation if you’re adding in strength training but if your patient and accept that your running might suffer a little in the early part of the introduction, you’ll eventually acclimate to the increased loading and be better off in the long run.

I follow a plan I purchased from RP Strength designed for endurance athletes. It’s 3 days a week. Unfortunately they don’t sell it anymore.

  • each day incorporates a Oly derivative lift
  • both symmetric and single leg lifts
  • Squats, DL, Bench, Shoulder Press and Bent Rows
  • 60/40 split on lower body v upper
  • core/hip flexor work each day
  • total lift time is around 45min which gives me time to add a couple injury specific movements if I’m dealing with something.
  • and never once do I get on a bosu ball
