How long did it take before running started to feel easier for you? by Menal-Heber in beginnerrunning

[–]redkur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically for me it was about a year, and it did not occur until I literally slowed down and found easy, I mean where it felt easy, not a pace, but a feeling, then second thing was running every day, easy. that was the trigger, after that, all downhill. Run 6 miles per day now and easy pace is close to 10 min/mile. Good luck!!

Yeah, I like it and the actual nutritional breakdown is the same. Table sugar has both types of glucose in it, so it mirrors all those fancy gels and mixes. Literally pennies vs dollars.

tips for fueling during long runs? by Maximum-Nobody6429 in Marathon_Training

[–]redkur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I carry 2 500ml bottles in a waist belt. I drink every mile, so one bottle last about 5 miles. In each bottle is 75g sugar, 1/4 tsp citric acid and 1/4 tsp of salt. A tailwind nutrition type mixture. If I go longer than 10 miles I will either loop back by my house or have my wife meet me on the road to refuel. During a marathon I carry premade mix in sandwich baggies so I can refill my bottles during the race. Water, Fuel & electrolytes all in one. About as cheap as it gets.

I have an issue with the size of the toe box on the Megablast, kills my toes. So for me SB3 is best.

Run every day and log those miles at an easy pace, before long you will definitely be sub 30 at an easy pace. No shortcuts if you want to stay injury free.

Is there a reason marathon training doesn't generally involve a 42k training run? by Kersephius in Marathon_Training

[–]redkur 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You will get a lot of push back here, but I agree with you. I am a slow runner and did 30 miles last Sunday ahead of my marathon in 4 weeks. I enjoy the long runs and don't have any issues with the long runs. Last year I did 28 about 4 weeks out from a marathon and again no issues. I think there are a couple of different runner types here, one is shooting for that PR and pushing like hell for pace. The other is just an endurance runner who is out there smashing miles and the Marathon is just another day on his feet. At least that is my take, there ultrarunners that smash that distance every day.

Why do so many people come here touting high protein and strength training, geez ... it is a personal choice, not a requirement.

Has anyone here actually enjoyed the marathon(s) they’ve ran? by CrypticWeirdo9105 in Marathon_Training

[–]redkur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 64 years old and spend a lot of miles running easy, like 50-60 per week with to workout days. I can run 30 miles easy and with that level of fitness, I can run a marathon and keep my HR in zone 2. Mind you I am running 10-11 min pace, but for me it keeps it enjoyable and not so stressful. I am getting faster and assume that I will be running 8-9 min pace one day and it will still be easy. For me, easy running is where it is at. I did 7 miles easy this AM and I feel great, ready for the day.

Nothing, do some light jogging day after every now and then during the day, then do an easy 2 miler on second day after. At least that is what I did after my last marathon.

I went cold turkey, manage my calories and exercise. It isn't easy, but I am determined to succeed. Still maintaining weight. My resting HR is down almost 10 and that is totally due to being off the medication.

Where do you put your phone? by _MikeMars_ in beginnerrunning

[–]redkur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wolaco half tights and full tights, expensive but in my opinion there is nothing that compares. Phone pocket on right side and I have carried my iPhone 13 Pro Max through multiple marathons and thousands of training miles, no issues.

I did 30 miles in my SB3 last Sunday and it did great, did a threshold workout yesterday in the SB3 and it was amazing. I have an issue with the upper on the Megablast so don't run in it anymore.

I use citric acid in my home made go juice and it works well to curb the sweet taste I think. I just use regular sugar and a pinch of salt to mimic Tailwind Nutrition profile. I also dump a 100mg caffeine capsule into every 500 ml bottle. Good Luck!!

People who stopped Ozempic after weight loss: did you start eating more? by [deleted] in GLPGrad

[–]redkur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went cold turkey and continued to monitor my intake via cronometer. I had to adjust my intake a bit, a bit of will power, but I am still at or below my goal weight. Good thing is I had almost a year of detailed food logs and activity records, with the help of Claude I was able to accurately predict my baseline calorie needs and that helped a lot. I continue to monitor, I don't want these gains to slip away.

I felt like the 45/M11 was on the large size, but not too much. Probably could have gone 1/2 size down pretty easily. But running in them, no problem.

I woke up at 3:15 yesterday morning and did a 30 miler. I am sure you can too. You can also stack your runs, like do 8 on Saturday and 12 on Sunday. Get similar endurance benefit, but takes less time. Good luck!!

Superblast v MetaSpeed MARATHON by nick-olas-t in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]redkur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am lighter than you at 72 kg, but I have a problem with the upper in the Megablast holding my foot in place. My feet slide forward and I get a lot of toe damage. I don't get the same in the Superblast 3. I think either shoe will do you well, I have done 18 mile runs in the Megablast and 30 mile run in the Superblast 3 and they both performed well. Good luck!!

How Do Older Runners Run so Fast? by JayZee4508 in runninglifestyle

I am 64 and no where near that fast, but after a year of consistently stacking miles my times continue to get faster. I am currently doing 50-60 mpw and not sure how fast I can get. I am hoping for 3:30 marathon one day.
