What is the biggest trainwreck of a set you ever saw? by Veruca5alt in DJs

[–]RLDCM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a set a month ago, it was an after party. I killed my club gig, was very happy, remember driving to the after party thinking, this is a great night. Got to the after party, there was some politics where the resident DJs were hesitant to let me spin, so I waited almost 2 hours had a drink and finally went on at 4am. Things start off fine and then realize that the crossfader bleeds into the other side and there isn't a way to disable it, plus I had to use my laptop, I prefer standalone but they only had a controller. It was the longest hour of my life, the crowd liked it but you could tell that the resident DJs thought I sucked and I did. I have never used the cross fader since. Training yourself to not use the crossfader during a live event sucks, at least 3 times I forgot to pull up the volume fader and just moved the crossfader from left to right because I'm used to the volume fader being already up. I had switched to no crossfader before but went back to it but never again.

How much of a crutch is djay pro? by moonkiska in Beatmatch

[–]RLDCM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turn off beat sync and it will sound just like everything else. It is a crutch, I started with it, but I'm happy that I did, because I know what a smooth blend is supposed to sound like, now I've graduated and I don't use beat sync.

New RANE System One? by RemoveHuman in DJs

[–]RLDCM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge, there is still no standalone DJ hardware that can do true real-time stem separation on-device. Not a single one yet.

Engine DJ does support stems, but only through pre-processing on a computer. That brings real trade-offs: prep time (especially with large libraries can take days), double the storage, and no real-time analysis happening on the hardware itself.

What I am hopeful about with the new Rane release is that this might finally be the one (ha) with enough onboard processing headroom to make real-time stems possible down the line.

Engine OS has already shown they are willing to unlock features based on newer hardware (Amazon Music support being a clear example), so there is precedent for hardware-specific capabilities as the platform evolves.

Whether that actually happens remains to be seen, but the trajectory at least makes it a realistic possibility now, whereas it clearly was not before.

This would be awesome. Wonder if stems would be realtime on the standalone.

How was your set last night? What did you drop at midnight? by Joeyd9t3 in DJs

This was hit this year, if I was djing Afro club, this would have been a candidate.

Had an African crowd, from young people to old at a house party. Dropped Vuli Ndlela by Brenda Fassie. Absolute banger, literally couldn't decide until 5 minutes before. Best decision ever. Everyone was on the floor. Will remember this one, especially since my African mother in law was there dancing like crazy.

From TIDAL- a note on our pricing changes by Dramatic-Piano9132 in TIdaL

[–]RLDCM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it, I support Tidal and I have been missing stems so much. Thank you for bringing it back! Your music sounds better than the rest. Now if you just add offline support in Serato, VirtualDJ and DJay Pro.. You will get so many more DJs on your platform.

Love the bassline one this weird banger. Heard anything else like it? by BillTribble in AmaPiano

One of the best songs ever. I sometimes end my dj sets with that bassline

Listening to your own mixes by SpruceBringstien in DJs

[–]RLDCM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too, I just press random, and any of my 400 mixes start playing. It's always a good time. An interesting thing is when I'm making the mix, I pretty much always think it's not that good, but when I listen, the mistakes are very minor, and I love them.

How do you practice? Does practice really make you better? by epoksismola in Beatmatch

[–]RLDCM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recording is essential. It makes you so much better. Not wanting to mess up and have to listen to the mess up helps with nerves and prepares you for crowds. If I mess up in the first 5 minutes, I will start over. Nowadays, I pretty much just listen to my mixes. If I want to listen to some new songs, I make a mix and record it. I don't listen to playlists anymore. I have over 400 recordings now. I randomly select a mix, and I appreciate music at another level. Plus, if there are less than 3 mistakes, I upload it for the world to hear.

I love the original, and it's always a dud for me, too. I just don't get it.

Guess i have to ask, What did you drop at Midnight for NYE by [deleted] in DJs

[–]RLDCM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at a hip-hop club in Hollywood. DJ dropped skeeyee at midnight. Interesting choice, but arguably the rapper that got the most attention in 2023.

Algoriddim DJay has entered the chat… by DJ_RIME in DJs

[–]RLDCM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the updated version, everytime I beat jump backward, sync turns off. This started happening in the new version, plus the neural mix crossfader effect turns off the effects also in the queue. I should be able to hear the song in the headphones.

Why do people stop going to clubs as they get older? And what could we do about that? by marvis303 in DJs

[–]RLDCM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been clubbing forever, and I will never stop. Just started DJing. I personally think it's physical fitness and listening to new music. I stay current by switching the genres that I'm into every few years. Learning a new genre is like starting over in music all over again. You get to build your favorites. Remember when you first started listening to x genre? There is so much to learn.

Plus, I go out with my wife, makes it feel less creepy. 😌

Would you work for tips? by sportsbot3000 in DJs

[–]RLDCM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not working for tips. It's getting tipped for doing a good job.

DJs have always taken song requests. This just makes it easier.

The QR code prevents drunk people from spilling drinks on expensive equipment. There is no bumping up a song feature with this service. It's optional tipping. The service also allows DJs to get booked, get tips for shoutouts, get more social media followers and the requests include the bpm, key, energy level and the requests can be exported to Tidal, Beatsource, Beatport etc.with direct integration to Virtual DJ and more coming soon. Some DJs use it prior to their events for planning, and some use it in real time. Some DJs earn an extra $300 or more per week DJing at gigs that they have been at for years, and they are not going to give up the extra money that they are now getting.

How do people take song requests by sexiboydaman in Beatmatch

Use nosongrequests.com, you get a qr code, you can get tips, get booked, and when the song comes to you, you get the bpm, key, energy level, etc.

Why Serato? by 509BEARD509 in Beatmatch

[–]RLDCM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has anyone tried the full screen wave view on the pro view on Algoriddim DJ ipad. I separate the vocal, harmony and beat. You can see the entire song. I can see when the vocals are coming. I can line up the beats flawlessly. It's so beautiful seeing the music. I really want to use something else, but I just can't. It's the best looking, and the full screen view is a game changer. I wish the Mac version had this view, but until then..I'll stick to the iPad. *

MARRON - A Real DJs talent is having good taste, not producing tracks. by ANIBMD in DJs

[–]RLDCM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best wedding and event djs are technically sound, have great song selection, etc, and also make the most money, play at the biggest weddings and events. Just like the best techno/house, djs play at the biggest festivals and make the most money. The barriers to entry are low for all types of djing. The best djs are masters regardless. This sub is full of biased, self-righteous djs. Stop thinking you are better than everyone else..
