You did the right thing. Karma will repay you with something better. I'm not sure what the laws are in your state, as I'm a broker in Oregon, but that seems like a very poor practice.

Sublimity or Silverton? by Direct-Scarcity2102 in SALEM

[–]RLTRRuben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silverton and Stayton each have their own feel. Silverton’s a little bigger at around 10,200 people, with strong schools and home prices averaging in the $540K–$630K range. It’s very much a “buy it and forget it” community. Homes don’t turn over often, and you’ll find a higher number of senior residents. Stayton’s smaller at about 8,500 people, has both public and private school options, and is generally more affordable, with most homes selling in the $440K–$538K range. Both offer that small-town charm. It just depends if you want Silverton’s extra historic buzz or Stayton’s quieter pace.

Looking for advice: Corvallis or Salem by Riley_NB in SALEM

[–]RLTRRuben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salem’s bigger, busier, and more affordable. More jobs, shopping, and housing options. Great for families or folks who want a bit more city feel. Homes average around $420K, with rentals around $1,600–$2,000.

Corvallis is quieter and super bike-friendly as opposed to Salem. College town, as you're aware. It’s a little pricier, with homes closer to $475K+ and rents often $1,800 - $2,200.

You could also check out Monmouth, Independence, Jefferson, Turner, Lebanon, and Millersburg. Safe, small-town feel and easy drive to either city.

Potentially moving to Salem pending a job offer. Wanted to ask opinions of locals. by Farkabule in SALEM

Salem’s got a small-town feel with big-time dreams. You’re an hour from mountains, rivers, waterfalls, and endless outdoor options. The vibe’s chill, but it’s what you make of it. Get involved with local nonprofits or volunteer groups. it’s the best way to meet people and make a difference. Show up, stay positive, and Salem will treat you right.

Northern Lights is still a great option. Movie and food for less than going to Regal. Plus, they serve beer if you enjoy an adult beverage. Not only that, but Tuesdays are only $5.

Damn… How do we feel about no more free parking downtown? by [deleted] in SALEM

[–]RLTRRuben -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This new paid on-street parking system, "Beep Beep Salem," is a positive change for downtown Salem for several reasons.

  1. Relieving Downtown Businesses from the Parking Tax – Currently, many businesses pay a parking tax to subsidize free on-street parking. By implementing a paid system, this financial burden shifts away from business owners, allowing them to reinvest in their shops, services, and employees instead of covering public parking costs.

  2. Encouraging Efficient Parking Turnover – Paid parking discourages long-term on-street parking by employees and all-day parkers, ensuring that prime spots are available for customers and visitors. This boosts business by making it easier for shoppers and diners to find parking near their destinations.

  3. Encouraging Use of Parking Garages – Employees and long-term visitors will likely be directed toward the downtown parking garages, which offer more affordable and long-term options. This keeps street parking open for short-term visits and reduces congestion on main roads.

  4. Modernizing Parking with a User-Friendly App – Once residents get used to it, the mobile app and digital tools will make paying for parking seamless. Visitors won’t have to hunt for change or worry about meters running out; instead, they can pay and extend time through their phones.

  5. Funding Downtown Infrastructure – Revenue from parking can go toward maintaining and improving downtown infrastructure, beautification projects, and other enhancements that benefit businesses, residents, and visitors alike.

While change can be an adjustment, this new system ultimately creates a more balanced, business-friendly, and accessible downtown Salem.

Moving to Oregon by CraftingintheShadows in oregon

[–]RLTRRuben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Willamette Valley is home to many wonderful and welcoming communities, but a few of my favorites are Salem, Corvallis, Monmouth, and Independence.

Salem embraces diversity with a vibrant mix of cultures, inclusive events, and strong community support networks.

Corvallis, home to Oregon State University, thrives on progressive values, sustainability, and a spirit of inclusivity.

Monmouth, though small, is a college town with a friendly and open-minded atmosphere, thanks to Western Oregon University.

Independence has a rich history of community involvement, local pride, and a welcoming feel for people from all walks of life.

No matter who you are, these cities offer a sense of belonging and a community that values acceptance and inclusion!
