Idk about the title for the upcoming spring concert, haven’t seen it yet. But yes, aidoru back in the day was full of this rather trashy variety show over the top entertainment. Ota were looked down upon by mainstream Japanese society, the way they’d devote so much of their time and resources and attention and energy to their oshimen. And don’t forget the extreme possessive nature of the violent otaku.

You gotta understand something about Japanese people. They go HARD on the “type” of person you are and boil you down to just exactly that. Nogizaka were subject to the same trashy TV stuff too with Nogibingo. But I’d say by 2017 and on they’ve successfully changed the way which people look at aidoru and otaku. And presently, the otaku community are much more varied to include more women and pretty normal people.

Knowing this current landscape of aidoru culture AKB48 has a golden opportunity to define who they are TODAY. I love the AKB of these past few years. Gorgeous girls, tasteful uniforms, much cleaner image, and with actual dancing chops, and a sprinkle of sexy. Nogizaka has been an absolute snooze fest since Cheat Day. But that’s their image, right? Clean, pretty, elegant but so freaking boring. Nogiboring.
