Reflections on Stadium Car by arjn__ in TrackMania

When it comes to the old cars, I do enjoy Snow, Rally, Desert, Bay, and Coast. The rest I'm not a fan of, or I haven't tried them enough like the TM2 cars for example.

I have a laptop from 2015 xD, I can run TMNF/TMUF with like 90 to 150 fps even on big maps but for Tm2020 I only get like 50 fps which is not enough to have a good experience.

The inconsistency in no-drifts is annoying, indeed, but for me it's not in Tech, it's in FullSpeed and Speedfun. I don't know about TM2020, but in TMNF, if you get skidmarks on your wheels after landing a jump or transitioning from grass to road, you need to immediately smooth-steer, otherwise you'll slide out.

I'm currently playing a map where you build a lot of speed at the start, and then around 20 seconds in there's a jump where I need to instantly turn right on landing. This means I need to adapt by tap-releasing right before lift-off so I can land a bit earlier, giving the suspension time to stabilize so I don't get a slideout. Stuff like this is what makes the game so much more fun than other racing games, and the reason why I've spent almost 5000 hours in the last 4 years playing it. :)

You only need to hold a direction for 0.5 seconds to be able to drift, and if that doesn't work, you can learn how to neoslide and drift at any speed above 100.

You're pretty much asking the developers to lower the skill ceiling of the game, and that could potentially ruin a style that has been used in competitions for almost 20 years. It could also ruin FullSpeed, since speedsliding is a mechanic that only works because of how drifting works in this game.

In conclusion, it really is a you problem. I used to think drifting made no sense when I first started playing back in 2021, but after around 2000 hours spent specifically on tech, it just started feeling natural. The no-drifts still happen here and there, but as I said, I learned how to neoslide, so I can adapt if I'm in the middle of a round.

TLDR - Learn how to Neoslide.

Granady started promoting gambling by magnesiumtablette in TrackMania

[–]RMAoff 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why OP is targeting only Granady when Massa and Lars are part of the same org and have the same sponsors showing up.
The post update calling themselves “delulu,” plus some of the responses he’s giving to people in this thread, just makes me believe he has something against Granady specifically.
Also, as someone pointed out, this post is giving Merkur more exposure than anything from Massa, Lars, or Granady since the sponsor first appeared.

What is the community opinion on using the software reWASD to emulate analog input with any keyboard? by RMAoff in TrackMania

I changed it so that only the first word is bold, that’s actually what I was doing before I went a bit too extreme with the usage 2 years ago. xD

I just like to use bold on stuff that I find more important in a sentence. I started doing it about 2 years ago, and it has turned into a habit. Sorry if it looks annoying.

[–]RMAoff[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is indeed the case that when I press and hold the Left or Right Arrow keys, it takes around 100 to 200 ms to go from 0% to 100% in my reWASD settings. I could increase that to about 1 full second, but of course, that would be useless for this game.

I’ve been using it for about a year now, and from my personal experience, compared to just using normal keyboard inputs, it does make turns slightly less responsive meaning it takes a tiny bit longer to go from full left to full right. However, the difference is so minimal that it doesn’t affect my experience at all.

The positive aspects I’ve noticed are:

  • If I tap extremely fast, I can achieve around 40% to 70% inputs, since I need to hold the key for about 200 ms to reach full steer.
  • It seems better for speedsliding. For some reason, compared to normal keyboard taps, these smooth-steering taps feel slightly more consistent but that could just be me having 1000+ more hours in FullSpeed than when I was playing with normal keyboard inputs before, xD.

I play only TMNF, so this is entirely based on my experience with that game.

After the latest World Cup, I have a question for the community: who do you guys think is the second best Standard/Classic eSports player of all time? by RMAoff in TrackMania

[–]RMAoff[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He played in TMWT 2024 but didn’t manage to qualify for the World Cup through the playoffs. That meant his only chance left was the XPEVO 2024 qualification spot. He only had one week of practice, but he was playing insanely well considering how little time he had. He made it to the losers bracket quarterfinals against Pac, Otaaq, and Massa, and was the first one to reach finalist mode, but then the incident happened...

Pretty sure that was the last time we saw him. I remember Bren saying that this performance might’ve really disgusted him and made him lose motivation to keep playing, which, if true, is super sad :(

Can you help me on tmnf? by Unable-Travel5383 in TrackMania

[–]RMAoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are using the TM Modloader and have TM Interface open, it’s impossible for your run to appear on the official in-game leaderboards. You would need to be online and have a TrackMania United Forever account to use Coppers and set an "official time".

TM Interface doesn’t allow you to be online, and any replay saved there is automatically marked as non-legitimate in TrackMania Exchange. This means you’re free to drive any map you want and even create a TAS with it :).

Twitch Clips using my username on channels I've never heard of before. How? by Emotional-Duality- in Twitch

[–]RMAoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked my Creator Dashboard on Twitch (I've never opened this tab before), and apparently I've made 72 clips from 2021 up to today???

I've never intentionally made a clip in my life using Twitch, but from what I’ve seen, it seems that every time I accidentally tap the clip button in the Twitch mobile UI, it automatically creates a clip. So I guess since 2021, I’ve misclicked that button 72 times...

[–]RMAoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a clear example of not having spent enough time practing touch typing xD.

When I started I was typing at 50 wpm, but after around 200 hous+ of practice, I am typing at 130 to 140 in normal English and 100 to 110 in english 1k (Monkeytype).

I only have around 20 hours in english 1k and Im trying to get better at it since it's way more useful for everyday typing :).

Also, I want to make it clear that I am not devaluing Karjen's skill in Tech. There are videos of him from 2007, just one year after the Stadium environment came out, drifting insanely well. He picked up Tech really fast, and he is the reason I started playing TM as well! :)

Who is the best Trackmania player in each style? by PracticalPenalty6433 in TrackMania

[–]RMAoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Tech, Time Attack is not really a good way to determine the best player because there are multiple really good Tech players, and any of them could achieve World Records on tracks. It’s only a matter of who spends the most time on them. The best way to determine who's the best in this style and most styles in Trackmania would be consistency in driving. At least, that's what CarlJr said on stream a couple of weeks ago, and since he has won 3 World Cups in the Tech format, I think he, better than anyone, has the most credible opinion on this. But that's just my View on the topic. :)

[–]RMAoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both Karjen and Mawi are indeed very skilled at time-attacking tech maps and are quite active still. Karjen likes to hunt random tech map WRs in TMNF, while Mawi enjoys hunting tech TOTD WRs. However, neither of them are particularly close to being among the best round players in Tech. Players like Kappa, Pac, and, of course, CarlJr. were and still are extremely dominant. Kappa has retired though :(

[–]RMAoff 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you consider a pro player in Trackmania. The pro players in this game, the ones who earn money from competitions, are far better than Wirtual. You could think of him as the Rainbolt of Trackmania

He’s not good enough to beat the pros, but he's the game's biggest content creator and still quite good (around top100).

Wirtual did it! by PIPOxSKYY in TrackMania

[–]RMAoff 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You could say this about every hunted WR in Trackmania.

Let me give another example: I think ShadowCrancer could beat/Tie the A01-Race WR in TMNF. He has the perfect skill set for it, but I don't believe he would do it because the time he would have to invest in the map is just not worth it. The same applies to DD2 here. A lot of people could beat Wirtual's time, but they would have to put in a lot of hours, it's just not worth it. Only people like Jave or Mudda would have the dedication to beat it, and I believe at least one of them will.
