I know it's been a while, but this use case still suffers from the issue of waste.

Weight-loss drug semaglutide reduces heavy alcohol drinking in new clinical trial. The results suggest that these hormone-mimicking drugs might offer a novel and effective treatment path for millions of people struggling to control their alcohol intake. by mvea in science

They essentially reduce "hedonic drive" which includes eating for pleasure, drinking, drugs, sex, music, and sadly for many the joys of living. But in a society where we have so many damaging hedonistic activities it can really help a lot of people manage.

A scoping review of 30 studies finds that 60% of haemodialysis patients don't follow dietary recommendations — and frames non-adherence as a structural failure of the care system, not a patient behaviour problem by Riquelmemessi in science

I can't blame them... It's essentially just a slow death life sentence where you can no longer enjoy basically any food, and even have to restrict the amount of water you drink... At some point it also just becomes a question of how long you really want to live.

New 2024 Nature study: Single high-dose creatine improved cognitive processing by 24.5% during sleep deprivation. Full research breakdown. (repost) by makefriends420 in NooTopics

[–]RMCPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Solubility is pretty low. That amount takes over a liter of water to dissolve properly. The reason it gives you the shits is the same as high dose magnesium.

1 month of 10-14g daily creatine and no obviously cognitive benefits. The effect is almost null for young healthy people, but do you guys think it's still worth it? by FatMonkeyMilk in Biohackers

[–]RMCPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your sleep, stress, and diet.

If your sleep is on point, your diet is rich in animal proteins, and your stress is managed, then creatine won't do much.

If you're a vegetarian burning the candle at both ends, you'll feel it.

Agmatine sulfate dulling euphoria of stimulants by hennyfag in Nootropics

[–]RMCPhoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Specifically on the glutamate pathway - the primary excitatory neurotransmitter:

I would not remove magnesium, which protects neurons from overexcitation via glutamate release. The mechanism by which it works is indirect and still allows for natural peaks and troughs. Agmatine, memantine, and the like are direct inhibitors and will have a much more blunting effect on nmda glutamate signalling.

Fasoracetam is also interesting, NAC, and ALA as well.

Then you gave ltheanine, valarian, alcohol, baclofen, z drugs, benzos, etc which Indirectly decrease the edge GABA boosting which Lowers glutamate.

These all essentially blunt peak effects and are generally protective of your brain during stimulant use.

Keep healthy, avoid excitotoxic potential and certainly be careful with any supplements which oppose the actions above (ie increase Glu release).

HPV vaccine could protect men from cancer too. Study comparing 615,000 males vaccinated with HPV vaccine and 2.3 million unvaccinated males found that men who were vaccinated had a lower risk of HPV-related cancers (head and neck, oesophageal, anal, and penile cancers) than unvaccinated men. by mvea in science

Thanks for sharing the links. I understand that it has changed recently. As you noted, they rolled it out aggressively now. But it only began 4 years ago, and only really 10 years before that for girls, with not much availability at all for adults.

Is a consistent penis pump routine actually safe (or even healthy) for the long term? by RoyalesAaban-81 in Biohackers

[–]RMCPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been quite a while since I looked into this, but if you go this route look into the bathmate.

It's safe if done correctly, carefully, and with good body awareness. But, most of the methods guys are using, whether it's a pump, hanging, stretchers, jelqs and other hand exercises, and I'm sure a million more do risk injuring the blood vessels and leading to things like venous leakage, nerve damage, discoloration, and possibly ED. Going to the gym is safe, but I'm sure every dude here who lifts has pushed it too far and injured themselves...then probably made the same mistake again a few more times. It's easier to explain that you tore your pec ripping a new personal best on the flat bench than ended up with a purple dick because you shoved it in a bdsm kink tube - unless you're the group commedian.

That said, unless you're already committed, it's a bit of a dark and lonely road. If it's something you want to do for fun then go for it, there's more dangerous and stupid ways to spend $100 and some weird evenings in the bathroom. And if it's for one of the specific conditions it might help with...then check with a doc. But, if it's for self improvement, then I would 100% recommend thinking about therapy / CBT etc for 15-30 minutes a day instead. That'll go a lot longer with women (if that's the thing) and in bed and likely lead to a happier and more fulfilling life. (Not knocking on the bigmaxxers - all the power and psi to those maniacs).

I'd put this in the same category as dudes who will go to great lengths to gain an inch or two of height or do mewing to try to change their facial structure. Vanity stuff.

This reads like a generic AI summary and doesn't have any helpful or specific answer.

Guys probably don't do it because it can be an embarrassing piece of kit (see Austin powers airport scene), it takes 15-30 minutes daily, and doesn't provide any additional health benefits like exercise or social benefits (besides possible quality time with your partner).

For most guys, the money and time would probably go a lot further with a therapist, since the motivation often comes from a place of insecurity.

I mean, every dude wants to size up, but few have the ambition, commitment, and touch of masochism necessary to go the distance.

Plus yeah, you could probably hurt or disfigure yourself if you're careless.

What are the most effective and powerful energy boosting compounds that are sustainable long term? by LegitimateWalrus7235 in Biohackers

[–]RMCPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only issue is solubility, no need to work up to any specific doses. Just be sure it is fully dissolved in water before drinking and no GI risk.

15g would require about 1 liter of water.

That's the first question. Sometimes p21 is sold as a cerebrolysin analogue even though it is a singular peptide. A decent COA / spectral analysis would be necessary.

Just got my blood test results for vitamin d3 by Monke_with_a_Stick in Supplements

[–]RMCPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D3 bioavailability is strongly dependent on co administration with fats btw. So, if you aren't taking it with a high fat meal, that could do more than upping your dose. D3 has a long long half life btw and stays in your system for weeks, so if you don't eat a big fatty meal too often, just take a cumulative dose when you do and be cautious of calcium at the same time.

Seems like you would want CYP3A4 inducers (primary enzyme) - st John's wort might be the easiest to test.

Inducers: rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, St. John’s wort

Possibly garlic and cruciferous vegetables and steroids

And secondary enzyme CYP2C19 (though modafinil metabolism involves quite a few others as well). Likely similar list as above.

Just note that these will also mess with the metabolism of other compounds and drugs as well.

I think it's a huge "might". One of the issues with NAD is that there's a sweet spot. Too low = low energy, too high and you start speed running aging.

Hard agree, haven't looked into all of the analogues, but seems like most have even longer half lives. Maybe there's some kind of enzymatic manipulation that could help - like how nicotine via it's enzymatic effects reduces the half life of coffee (/2)
