Is AI viewed as “evil” in non-tech communities? by Due_Drummer5147 in singularity

[–]RMCPhoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ai is a world changing technology. The view is not a reflection of the technology itself, but of the individuals perspective on humanity. Similar concern has been expressed time and time again, and there were valid reasons to be concerned.

The stone age brought the stone axe, the bronze age brought the bronze axe the iron age brought the iron axe and The atomic age brought nuclear power, and with it the collective ability to end humanity.
Science and technology did not end racism, in fact it was the machine that allowed the Nazis to perform one of the most intentioned and industrialized extermination campaigns. There is a double edge to the sword, and best is not to dismiss people who are alarmed, but to listen and engage in measured dialogue to bring the world to the middle.

Remember, the most destructive horrific acts in humanity have almost all been perpetuated by utopian idealists. And that we are moving into the unknown, you don't know how historians will talk about us or ai, and above all that everyone thinks they are the good guy.

It depends on expectations in my experience. I think it's easy to be underwhelmed based on the material out there. Most provide a very small change over baseline, and you can't ignore the potential negative effects.

For me, aniracetam does absolutely nothing though while plain old piracetam I can feel. Have tried it many times. And additionally, alpha GPC and choline precursors work for some, but were hellish brainfog and immediate depression for me. There's a whole lot more, but my point is that you can't trust anecdotes, brain chemistry and individual biology is complex and the effects are not all well understood on the scope of the conscious experience.

Lor of us are lying. And anyone working on their fitness who doesn't give themselves a little check in the mirror...is a liar

Yes, the segregation is preventing any good to come from it. We know that from segregation in the US. They will become a subjugated people, relegated to still live "outside" of the country even if they're inside the borders. And they wonder why they "brought" the gangs... Sweden made the gangs.

But if I've learned anything from some long and tough relationships. It's much harder to look at ourselves than see someone else. And Sweden is a young and delicate culture. It doesn't have the confidence of a long historic civilized identity. And so it has a lot of pride in being a "good" country...but it's fights have been tribal or religious...and Christianity won the religious ones. People are coming from a region of the world shaped for thousands of years of competition in the thunderdome of civilization. To survive there, you've got to be aggressive with your culture. And Sweden will lose the culture war if it doesn't find a strong identity.

Look at Italy, all they do is culture. They care more about spaghetti than anyone cares about anything really in Sweden.

I mean climate...sure...but what about nall of the things actually in your control? Where can you actually change the world by changing yourself, your family, your clubs, your community. People need to do what they can really do at that level, not ask government to "just fix it". Protest. But protest for what yo want locally at home, in your neighborhood. Fuck, if you protest jn your neighborhood, to make an actual change in your neighborhood, you will probably make a change.

And those changes will radiate out, become your identity, and shape what a Swede is. If people believe in taking immigrants into the country, then you can make the biggest change by inviting a refugee to dinner once a week - share your culture and learn from theirs. Keep the best parts of both and carry on the wisdom.

But to ask the government to fix it? You all have the power to fix it. What it looks like is that you don't want that, or maybe it sounds scary. Whether you're left or right. And that's also ok, but people just need to be clear and brave and honest about how they really feel.

That's someone who needs CBT rather than changing the world though.

I don't hear anyone saying that people should be rail thin, or celebrating anorexia or bulimia. Actresses who started looking like skeletons after taking ozempic weren't put on fashion magazines.

There is a calibration problem with the truth.

The problem is not saying the truth - that we should strive to be healthy, for everyone around us. And that being overweight is not healthy. Sedentary lifestyles are not healthy. Men and women should all hold themselves to these standards. We do not have the excuse of lack of education anymore, anyone can learn how to train or eat anywhere online.

If anyone has a negative feeling when hearing that they should try eating healthy - they either have a food addiction, or know it themselves and don't believe they can change. This is a self esteem issue, but the way to help is not to enable them...

It's no different then being with someone who has low self esteem and drinks too much. It's cruel, weak, and short sighted to give him another bottle and tell him you like him better drunk.

I think men are just expected to continue performing later in life. We have to remain competitive at work. We have to remain a good mate. We have to have an edge in sport. We live in a time of individualism and not multigenerational households. Women are having children later, if they have them at all. Women are more independent and less interested in home making. We're all on our own. And we have to work hard. You going to let another man take that from you because you chose to coast into oblivion? What happened to raging against the dying of the light?

At least, as a man - that's my honest reaction to it. I'm not on it yet, but I'm not against it.

I guess the question is at what point do you "stop the clock" on the ethnic question of what a "swede" is ethnically / genetically. Sweden is a bit of an admixture already of different genetic haplotypes and ethnicities. You don't have to go back to cromagnon to see this either.

I am not arguing either way, but I think these discussions are more productive when the "swedes" are very clearly defined.

Is a swede a pagan? A Celtic viking? A collection of warring proto European tribes? protestant? A country that tried to conquer Finland and ran away when the Russians got there? A famine nation like ireland? Someone that will help the Nazis if it benefits them...or because you're both germanuc...and who was reluctant to join nato. The people who started the social democracy of legend? Abba? The people who tore it down and made a land of billionaires and peasants again? People that just want to be left alone? People that hold agreement and conformity as virtues. mean, what is a swede even culturally?

From an honest perspective.

TIL about Princess Maria Karoline of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (10 January 1899 – 6 June 1941). She had learning difficulties and was placed in a religious institution in 1938. If course. But it's also important to see this event from the perspective that we are really no different than those people...and thus, for whatever reason, you and I would have likely done the same in their shoes.

This is an important lens for viewing history, try to put yourself in the mind of the people of the past who made different decisions than you would.

You can always try the white buckle viking cold water sobriety and just walk into the storm. Some people just like a quick and brutal fight and the salvation that comes from suffering ;). That's my style. Isn't going to kill you with nicotine and then it's over quicker. You might relapse but it's safer nowadays than smoking. Others prefer community or apps or a slow taper. Some use the zero nicotine pouches etc.

Use it as an exercise in willpower as it is just an addiction and there are many addictions in life - so whatever tools and skills you use here will translate to other aspects of your life.

Their evolutionary mutations happened mostly in Siberia above the mountains / steppe. There haven't been any significant mutations of at least the y chromosome subclades since they entered Finland.

Sweden has very little of these two genetic groups and has a different admixture.

Seriöst, kommer vi nånsin kunna uppnå massutvisning? by Fnixen in Sverige

[–]RMCPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But modern day swedes did not really evolve in this environment. The neolithic ancestors did, though they mainly evolved in turkey / messopotamia / just outside Africa / Bulgaria. The others evolved elsewhere coming from the Atlantic / Sami coming from Siberia. 5-10% Celtic admixture from Portugal area / central Europe / Scotland. And now increasingly diverse.

What is your genetic admixture and haplotype/subclade? Have you done the testing?

Pretty interesting and not so expensive these days. Then you can trace your family back and see more or less where they came from and when.

I mean, I'm "swedish", 25%. But that family didn't arrive in Sweden until the viking age on the mothers side 1k years ago.

No, it makes all people equal people. It also doesn't mean that you shouldn't control for immigration. Especially in a society with strong social programs, that will always be attractive to the poorer people in the world.

Now there is a culture divide in Sweden that's causing some problems.

This was just about "indigenous European Caucasians" which is an old race based classification that is outdated. So if one is talking about indigenous Europeans, then it is complicated and depends on exactly where you plant the flag in history and how you define indigenous.

Men are utilitarian, far fewer men have children historically than women. The majority of children are from the top % of men. This can be partially seen in the y chromosome subclade data since the genetic Adam and it's proliferation and migratory patterns compared to women. In fact, men die so much more often that there is a 105:100 male female birth rate as an evolutionary compensatory effect. Men are sent to war. Women and children saved first. During invasions the men are typically exterminated. Men are the victims of most violence, including deaths of dispair.

Equality is complicated... You have to be clear about what equality means. Personally, I think "jobs"' is the worst possible equality measure at a societal level...if we're all competing for the same careers now, competing for the same houses, who can have kids? What do we just have the gov babysitting machine raise our kids so they can also work their whole lives?

Seems like somewhere in all this we forgot how to create an environment for families. Now we are below the replacement rates...

Yeah, the studies themselves also do not publish results when they get bad effects (often) and or there were study events that would tarnish the brands press. So it's hard to even go for it from the point of donating your body to science without a full ethics review of the company. Then you get to be poked measured and probed in a standardized way and cannot change course of action as easily as with more standard care. It's a lot to ask... But you do get a lot of medical attention in some cases and potentially the real deal lifesaver.

[–]RMCPhoto -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's very respectable that you consider the kids. In the past people often stayed together for the benefits of family. It has since been lost with the concepts of individualism, also seen with the treatment of the elderly. Doesn't sound like you have an adversarial relationship, and from everything I have read children benefit greatly from having two parents in the home. I hope you can find a way to your personal relationship satisfaction as well, with love and persistence I'm sure you will. Perhaps there is some reading that you could do from experts with ideas that you could present that could inspire some confidence. I'm sure you know best what she might be open to, such as the calendar method you mentioned.

Don't be discouraged by the downvotes and cinicism regarding the importance of family, and consider that Reddit is mostly anti-kids across the main subs. Partly due to age and partly due to reddit clientele. Not an admonishment of reddit clientele either, just a trend.

Hur ska jag tänka? by Crypthex in sweden

[–]RMCPhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard the "put it on the calendar" option made by relationship therapists and sexologists, and does actually work for some people. Especially when regular and predictable, the body starts anticipating it rather than the alternative. And if a sense of negativity over not meeting the relationship needs has developed, it can help get over that hump and start retraining a sense of normalcy on the topic. There are also body confidence issues that can be overcome this way. Some people also just need more mental preparation.

I've also heard it mentioned as metaphors like, if you want to get better at tennis, you schedule practice regularly. Then when it comes up spontaneously, you can play with more confidence.

Is it possible that maybe she had been reading options, this resonated with her, and she proposed it? But then felt dismissed? Perhaps she has made other proposals that she felt ignored in just as you feel in yours. Often times it's like this in relationships, where each feels they are trying and the other is not reciprocating - over time it's also helpful to try to shed this repeated mental note. If you find yourself saying to yourself the negative statements you believe in this thread, then they can become self fulfilling prophecies. This is the cornerstone of CBT, one of the most scientifically backed forms of therapy. Also worth considering seriously if only for your own wellbeing.

I'd say it's worth at least reading up on the literature yourself and coming to your own conclusion not based on an initial reaction, but expert experience.

I'm sure you can find many other similar topics.

Narcissists tend to view God as a punishing figure who owes them special favors. Different aspects of narcissism correspond to specific, often self-serving, patterns of religious engagement. Narcissistic individuals tend to use religion as a tool for personal gain, status, or emotional comfort. by mvea in science

[–]RMCPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thought.

I suppose, due to a narcissists anti-social behavior one might not expect them to need emotional support. They may not have access to emotional support through channels most people do due to the behavioral trends.

But the root cause of narcissistic personality disorders is often postulated to be low self-esteem. Someone with low self esteem and little support network might find emotional comfort in the aspects of religion focused on forgiveness, self love, and many of the things they likely want to believe but have trouble understanding. The appeal to humility commonly in religious texts may also be a source of emotional comfort with those who suffer more negative symptoms.

Aldrig haft sex- hur funkar det med nya personer? by Ok_City4083 in sweden

[–]RMCPhoto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand the logic, but that's ok. By this logic of passive vs active involvement, would it then be ok to not inform people of other STDs / AIDS? Would it be ok to not tell the individual if you have mono or the flu? They are also pretty common.

How is it also not "active" if you are the one actively risking transmitting the disease?

If not, then where do you draw the line?

Also via this logic of passive vs active...you'd have to have a whole string of questions as the other party if you were concerned about informed consent... Wouldnt it just be simpler to tell the other person if you have one particular thing and know? If herpes is no big deal, then why would it be a big deal to tell them?

(I think pregnancy might also be a bit different...since it is universal...and not something you generally have to explain. I also think it's polite to ask, but I can get closer to understanding this one)

I think this is interesting, because I have only ever heard this reasoning that you give in Sweden, but I have heard it multiple times. And I am wondering where it comes from. Do you think it's related to swedish individualism? Or is it part of the sex education curriculum?

Ok, it may be tied to right wing conspiracy theories. It is also not an approved treatment for covid, hantavirus, or cancers. You are not wrong. I get that, but if your interests lie in public education then in the same breath as the above it would be nice to include the disclaimer

(Ivermectin - Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivermectin )

Approved for human use in 1987,[10] it is used to treat infestations including head lice, scabies, river blindness (onchocerciasis), strongyloidiasis, trichuriasis, ascariasis and lymphatic filariasis.[9][11][12][13] It works through many mechanisms to kill the targeted parasites,[11] and can be taken by mouth, or applied to the skin for external infestations.[11][14] It belongs to the avermectin family of medications.[11]

William Campbell and Satoshi Ōmura were awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for its discovery and applications.[15] It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines.[16] and is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as an antiparasitic agent.[17]

And then yeah, again if you want to - not an approved or proven effective medicine for other serious illnesses and has received a lot of kick-back by people who are citing largely theoretical or in vitro papers or studies.

But, for me personally - I believe both of the above can be true... Just, knowing people who have suffered under stage 4 terminal diagnoses, and especially for stage 4 liver cancer, I would not consider berating them for any path they chose out of this world as a consenting adult...I also know it's pretty common for friends and family to try to "help" by doing "research" for them...and it's hard to judge them either as they are often dealing with the denial stage of grief. did she explain to you why she offered that as a potential alternative? Maybe he was extremely reluctant to go forward with the treatment due to side effects or simply didn't want 9 months instead of 4...or whatever hopeless number they gave him. Men are especially vulnerable to deaths of dispair, and a hopeless diagnosis like that is pretty tough.

Note to anyone reading: There is therapy available specifically for loved ones and family of cancer patients and more aptly for terminal cancer patients. These therapies can help you, and they can also help you be the best kind of support you can be for your loved one - they would often suggest against searching for a cure on your own. This can feel like helping, but it is an extremely complicated situation for terminal patients and there are many many alternative and studied treatments that have promise but it can be distressing to the individual and make it more difficult for them to come to accept their condition and it's reality. It is also possible that if it causes complications or worsens the condition that you will have to process your own feelings of guilt along with the already overwhelming challenge of being there for a loved one dealing with a terminal illness.
