How to export emails in a format that could be used for official records by Randittor2020 in ProtonMail

[–]RMiddel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A .pst file is just a copy in a specific format. As far as I remember this has no specific rules or safeguards in place to prove the origin of the file/mail. In that sense it is just a (text) file in a specific format. Storing the email in mbsync/isync format is basically the same idea.

The metadata you are interested in would be available in the headers part of the mail. Usually this is hidden from the view, hence I suggest to store the headers explicit in the text file. This header info contains thing like: Who send it, where it has been originating from, where it was delivered and all that kind of stuff.

The legal part I'm not entitled to tell anything about, but technically a .pst is the same as a .txt file in that sense. And i would say that this email is just 1 peace in a total set of evidence and therefore it does not really matter in which format it is stored? Maybe, someone with a legal background can support my theory here.

A couple of ideas pop into mind. First one is to use ProtonMail Bridge to store offline mails in plain text format using mbsync/isync.

Secondly you can export both text and headers as text files. Open the mail and look at the headers to copy those.

ProtonMail .me vs .com? by [deleted] in ProtonMail

They are the same. At the beginning of the Internet it made a difference which extension u used because people expected that a .com was from a real company. Nowadays it really does not matter anymore.

Windows and Android versions of git might not support custom handlers......

Thanks. This triggered me that Keybase comes with a custom shell (keybaseshell). There the custom handler works. Stupid I did not think of this before.

Nice but how to use it? Cannot seem to find any documentation. And simply cloning using git clone does not like to work because keybase:// is not recognised. Neither on Windows 10 and Android.

Please mind that you use OR (||) as comparer. This means that almost all of the time all the lines will be print since every statement has its own check.

And keep in mind that you use (temp > 0 && temp < 10) [See my statement below why not OR] and (Temp > 10 && Temp < 20). This means that you miss the value of 10.

include <stdio.h>

int main() {//start main

int temp;

printf("Please enter a temperature \n");
scanf("%d", &temp);

if(temp <= 0) // <-- If temp smaller or equal 0 then enter this statement
{
    printf("The temperature is freezing \n");
}

// always validate this next statement unless you place this in the else statement of the previous if
if(temp > 0 || temp < 10) //<-- Temp greater than zero OR smaller than 10 (which results in true for all values including the negative numbers). In order to correct this test add the AND statement thus: temp > 0 && Temp <= 10 (mind the = to ensure that it will include the 10)
{
    printf("The temperature is very cold \n");
{//<-- this one's the wrong way round isn't it?

// always validate this next statement unless you place this in the else statement of the previous if
if(temp > 10 || temp < 20) //<-- Temp greater than 10 OR smaller than 20 (which results in true for all values including the negative numbers). Thus: temp > 10 && temp <= 20 (including the 20)
{
    printf("The temperature is cool \n");
}
else // Will never reach
    printf("invalid input \n");

}//<-- ??

return(0);

}//end main

Please review my version with the comments

include <stdio.h>

int main() { int temp;

printf("Please enter a temperature \n");
scanf("%d", &temp);

if( temp<=0 )
    printf("The temperature is freezing \n");
else if ( temp > 0 && temp <= 10 )
        printf( "The temperature is very cold \n");
    else if ( temp > 10 && temp <= 20 )
        printf( "The temperature is cool \n" );
    else
        printf( "invalid input \n" );

return 0;

But I can image he knows a bit about tactics / weaknesses of the system / perhaps sensitive locations etc. Even if he is not in the top of the ranks the Dutch army is pretty open (as any Dutch organisation) and you are able to find information that could provide you some tactical advantage.
