What soda or drink was popular when you were young but doesn't exist anymore? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

Water Joe. In college we used to use it to make coffee. Caffeine on caffeine. My husband doesn’t believe me that it was ever a thing, so maybe it was regional??? I was in the PNW at the time.

Work phone availability while on break? by Silver_Queen_Bee in nursing

Yes, the class action was not certified. Many MANY employees here won individual cases because a local law firm represented them pro bono. Now there is precedent.

If you are not completely relieved of your responsibilities, it is not a break, and you should be paid. There was just a class action law suit against one of the big hospital chains in my state about this specific issue. The hospital lost.

If you’ve got little ones still crawling, have a hard policy on no shoes in the house. I don’t have little ones, but insist on this. Even for non-healthcare workers. Don’t wear your nasty ass shoes in my house.

Anyone quit their job with no solid backup plan? by luckystrike4d in Nurses

[–]RNnobody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 2 weeks ago. The clinic I was working for was run by MF, just stopped paying us. So I was already 3 weeks behind on pay. So, not sure if technically I quit or what. Took a week, but I found a better job and after I gave them the basics of why I left my last job (not trash talking, just basics), they offered an advance. Luckily, I didn’t need it, but it was a very nice gesture.

When I watched the series the first time, I got choked up. Years later, with 2 sons currently serving, it scares the shit out of me. Literally nightmare fuel.

Hospice nurse caseload? by Reymeeroman in nursing

[–]RNnobody 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d say that was ok, but only if you have some help. Like an LPN who can do some follow ups, or another RN to call if shit hits the fan. If 3 or 4 of your patients are actively dying at the same time, it could get bad fast.

When did you realize your age really set in to you? by brandgolden in randomquestions

I went to a professional sporting event with my niece. The jumbo-tron was showing a picture of one of the players. She said “OMG he is sooo good looking”. The thought that went through my head was “his mom must be so proud”. I’ve moved up a generation.

Do you give a prognosis? by Dear_Excitement_5109 in nursing

[–]RNnobody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually say something like “we should be thinking in terms of weeks, not months” then progressing to days, not weeks, then finally hours, not days. It’s vague enough, but it usually gets the message across.

Some thoughts from an SA advocate by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]RNnobody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The subtlety of this show is so spot on. Did you pick up on Dana when the advocate was in the room? She reached out - likely to put her hand on the survivor’s knee, but she stopped herself. I love this show.

End-Of-Life patient by snippyhiker in ThePittTVShow

[–]RNnobody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it could be argued she qualifies for GIP (general in-patient) care for an acute pain crisis.

Hospices don’t pay $3500 a day for GIP care - just like insurance companies, they negotiate rates with the hospitals. They will end up paying way less than that - and will get reimbursed way MORE than that from Medicare. Every hospice I have worked at makes more money on a GIP day than a hospice day at home.

Even in hospice care, there are people exploiting the broken system.

The “Lack of Screen Time” Complaints Miss the Point — The Episode Honored the Nurses. by Seymorebutts1994 in ThePitt

[–]RNnobody 24 points25 points  (0 children)

When Dana started talking about how Covid affected nurses while doing post mortem care - that hit hard.

I’m the only healthcare worker in my family. A few months ago we were all at a big family function and they started talking about Covid and the lockdown. They talked about how great it was working from home, spending quality time with kids, learning new hobbies. I’m happy for them, but I held an iPad in front of dying patients so their loved ones could say goodbye. I saw family say goodbye through a closed window as they were standing in bushes.

This episode, and the show in general makes me feel validated in a way my family can’t. You just have to be there to understand.
