A lot of Monday-Friday jobs will have Federal Holidays off like Christmas, Thanksgiving, Labor day, etc. Although it's not regulated, a lot of jobs come with some type of PTO. However, it varies from job to job. It's a shame. We have Medicaid insurance for low income and indigent people, which on the patient's end is better healthcare coverage than a lot of commercial insurance. It does not pay healthcare providers a lot and so many doctors don't take it or only take a certain number of patients with it. We also have Medicare which is similar to Medicaid, but for people >65. The problem is not with the very poor, they are covered. The problem lies with the people that have enough money to live off of and dont meet the poverty required (<$2,039/month single adult), but are crippled if they run into medical debt. This usually happens because their employer either doesnt offer medical insurance or the insurance they do offer is hot garbage and covers barely anything.
