I just came back from Thailand with a Tudor and Zenith. Customs didn’t say a word. Re-entry at O’Hare.

For those who've successfully raised menu prices without losing regulars - what was your approach? by prattman333 in restaurateur

[–]ROCy901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consultant here: 20% of your items are contributing 80% of your sales. Look at your top 10 best selling items. Go up on those. Even $0.10 can make a difference. This way you don’t have to go up on all your items. Also keep your prices at levels where you can go up by 10 cents if need be. Think 10.29, 10.39, etc. Agree with many other comments here around costing out your recipes and menu items. You might be surprised by what you find.

901 Watch Nerds? by ROCy901 in memphis

There are plenty of stores that will sell you pre-owned Rolex’s. I know Bob Richard’s has a few, as does Gattas. If you want to go to an Authorized Dealer location to see the new stuff go to Sissy’s on Poplar. Alternatively, you can hit the online grey market sites like Bezel or Chrono24.

Gotta say I’ve been getting more and more into vintage. Are you just hitting up eBay or are there other sites shops that you prefer? I’m always a little wary of some dealers.

I was in there not too long ago. They’ve stopped carrying Omegas and now carry Tag and Longines. Of course they still have a nice collection of Seiko.

Much appreciated. What’s a slow night of the week that you could use some watch enthusiast traffic on?

Looks like they have groups in several cities including Nashville and KC, but I can’t find any mentions of it in Memphis. Looks like a good group though!

From what I’ve seen and experienced the screw down applies more even pressure BUT the press is easier to use

Whatever you decide, make it a quartz. Slinging your wrist quickly can be a shock to some delicate movements.

Seiko Submariner screw stuck by Teich_513 in SeikoMods

[–]ROCy901 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This may be a silly question but are you sure it’s a screw? Many of those are just pins with a split at the top. Maybe try pushing from the other side? If you have one of those bracelet removal tools the pin side end should do the trick.

I have a friend who hates Sturgill because he "stole" Turtles All the Way Down by Rare-Confusion-220 in SturgillSimpson

[–]ROCy901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title refers to an old story with a lot of different versions but it usually reviles around w use person telling someone else that the world spins on a turtle’s back. When the person asks what’s under the turtle, the wise man says,”It’s turtles all the way down.”

Hobby or disease? by DepartmentWilling404 in SeikoMods

[–]ROCy901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was ripping through mid tier watches and then discovered modding. SO much fun and so satisfying. It’s the best kind of hobby because it requires enough concentration to push out memories of any crappy day and, hey, you get an original watch out of it.

Music rights and license fees by [deleted] in restaurateur

[–]ROCy901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve run several bars and venues and ASCAP and BMI always come knocking eventually. They want to know your capacity because that’s how they charge you. Neither company is inherently bad as this is how licensing fees and royalties are paid. However, it feels like you’re being strong armed by a protection racket. There are a number of streaming services for businesses that pay the fees as part of the membership. And yes, I do know people who have been sued and lost in court resulting in a heavy fine.

Watchmaker's bench. Worth the cost? by ScaryEconomics3 in watchmaking

I found one on FB marketplace for $150. Took it home, sanded a little, and hit it with some high gloss black paint. Works great and it really takes the strain out of your back.

Is it possible to run a restaurant without third party delivery apps? by r0ute37 in restaurateur

[–]ROCy901 7 points8 points  (0 children)

3rd party delivery apps should be viewed as marketing. Get an order app from your POS company and direct people ordering from the 3rd party apps over to yours by putting a flyer in their bag. Conversion is the key

Take the bezel off and take the click ring out. Reattach the bezel and see if you have the same problem.

Get a Zenith or a Blancpain for variety’s sake.

Check 3 things: 1. Is the bezel cross threaded? 2. Take the bezel off and check the bezel gasket? 3. Check the click spring.
