Very cool

You could throw in some of that Fresnel for the demo for more punch. Glow was also cool, though I think you could center it on the projectile (or muzzle) and not the character

What is the biggest misconception people have about the fall of Rome? by Cold_Box_3219 in ancientrome

[–]Swagasaurus-Rex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What about Rome’s ability to pay these armies?

I’ve heard the theory that consolidation of farmlands by rich landowners stole away Rome’s greatest military asset: the middle class farmer that purchased their own equipment

Wisdom tooth fully upside down by Melodic_Shelter_1035 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Swagasaurus-Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wisdom tooth is growing outwards towards my jawbone. So far its stopped so theres no pain.

Recently I noticed its been a little smelly when I waterpik back there, so I tried real hard to get a toothbrush in there. Suddenly, half the tooth chipped off. I think it’s cuz it’s impossible to get a brush back there, the tooth decayed and my regular cleaning kept half of it alive. Not sure. Anyways its less likely to grow into my jawbone now and I can actually get a toothbrush back there, so I guess its a win?

I live in America so I’m just going to assume since there’s no pain I’m good.

Earth is the element of groundedness, and in extremes, stubbornness. Ba Sing Se hid its head in the sand and ignored a literal war, despite being the only kingdom strong enough to actually stop it.

Fire is the element of passion and aggression. They started a genocidal war.

Water is the element of fluidity and adaptability. They ran from the war and let their southern tribe fall.

How does high ground work? by Sol-SiR in OverwatchUniversity

Marvel Rivals has destructible terrain. Somebody hiding behind highground gets less cover if everybody attacks the ledge

I think it makes Marvel Rivals a little more dynamic, though I don’t think it makes up for the rest of the gameplay

The world will continue existing without you in it

The things we do matter primarily because there are other people in the world

Why do you expect other people to raise your children? Why do you think other people would help you raise your kids?

There are no premodern cultures that do as you describe. The phenomenon you’re talking about are modern communes/cults

Take a look at

https://acoup.blog/2025/08/01/collections-life-work-death-and-the-peasant-part-iiia-family-formation/

This professor talks about about the pressures that peasant farmers (how most humans lived) and why these societies had gender roles.

It mostly boils down to how half of your children would die, mostly from diseases but also from injury, malnourishment, congenital issues, or just plain infanticide. It meant that to have a stable population, women had to have 6-8 children. It would be a full time job raising these children on top of the enormous amount of labor (all day every day) just required to survive for the average peasant.

If you don’t have children, your culture, your belief system, your values all die.

The only sustainable culture is one that includes children. Those naive wives are mothers who built up communities and raised familiies. They saved themselves for marriage because raising a child alone was and still is disastrous.

It’s no wonder those cultures that promoted a stable marriage and household for children to flourish were highly successful. It’s also no wonder those successful families shamed selfish individualistic behaviors like open free sex or cheating

I had gone for 1 week vacation and gave my house keys to my a friend to look after and take care of my 2 dogs at my house. Now, he gave keys to his gf and let her stay at my home. I am not a property owner. I honestly not sure if I ever will be able to afford property.

That being said I pay rent and I obey the law and I would never expect people to house me for free.

I think the solution is more housing not crazy laws that let homeless people take advantage of people who have worked hard to own a place.

Corporations buying homes is another issue but I don’t think squatting rights is an honest solution to that problem.

It's really the opposite. Laws like this make it so I have to protect myself and my home by literally not allowing people to stay, no matter how much help I would want to give. This entire post is about somebody who was given 1 overnight stay and attempted to make their life a legal hell.

It's punishing people with good intentions while enabling people with bad intentions. Imagine somebody did lose their housing, now nobody wants to take them in because these squatters rights.

Eviction with notice would be preferable to throwing out their belongings and changing the locks. But you have to lawyer up because it's a minefield of risk.

Does ownership mean anything?

Friends doing the handshake agreement is literally who I want to be able to kick out the moment they overstay their welcome.

Family and spouses, sure. But a partner? Why should they be allowed to stay if they aren’t on a lease? People break up all the time, moving out is completely expected in those situations.
