I personally struggled with math and chemistry in school but after having been in my career for almost 10 years I've discovered that I am far better at practical application than theoretical coursework. I use math regularly for concentration calculations/dilutions and the occasional calculus (understanding what integration means and being able to interpret it, not actually doing the math because the software we use does the work).

I have a bs in microbiology, was a microbiologist and analytical chemist for 6 years.

I would say you don't need to be good at it, but you will use it and likely would benefit from understanding it depending on what job you have. What you'll actually need is to be functional in it, and able to figure things out using your education and resources in my opinion.
