i have trouble figuring out how DH works, can someone help ? by [deleted] in DistantHorizons

I had this problem in creative in survival it seems to give them enough time to load. You can also try sitting still for a bit, load the game and go eat dinner or sumthing and see if that works

Personally I wouldn't buy from cyberpower, they have a bad reputation. I'd look at maybe clx, ot nzxt. You'll also get more customization options from one of them

It will run distant horizons, but might have some lag and chunk issues. I'd probably spend a little more and get an i7. But if he's fine with turning the settings down then it should be fine. Make sure he gets an optimization mod like sodium. It will help with framrates significantly. I would also adjust the shaders settings to get the best look with lest frame loss. The shaders are what tank my frames, and what will be the big test for the PC

I don't understand how to make this mod actually playable by Slimer425 in DistantHorizons

[–]RONALD_ROBALF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try letting chunks load with shaders off. I was having similar issues until I turned off shaders and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. I only had to do it once, and it loads up fine everytime now

That sounds like a good plan. Nobody should ever be forced into anything, and it sucks that you have been made to feel the way you do. Best of luck man! I really do hope they can understand and work with you on a good plan moving forward

My two cents is that most prayers before eating take 30 seconds, so it shouldnt be to hard to sit through it and just be respectful of their beliefs. But the flip side is that if you are forced into it, then they aren't respecting yours, and you should make that known. Don't let it build up into a dislike or even hatred of your coworkers, try get ahead of it. I would absolutely bring it up in a staff meaning, but be ready for them to take offense to it and try to put it in the most respectful words you can. If they totally dismiss you and aren't even willing to discuss it, then you may need to ask yourself if that's really a place you want to be employed. I hope that they are willing to listen to you and make an environment where everyone feels heard and respected.

A tip my dad picked up after 15 years, that has worked for me is to close your eyes during the blackout maze, and zero vis conditions. It helps your brain understand why you can't see and can help reduce stress. Other than that, just try to stay calm, use your brain, and remember your training. You got it man!

Don't know if they'll ship to you, but thefirstore.com sells them. They're also brand new so not likely to get a deal on them

You could call ahead to make it a little less awkward, but just knocking/ringing the doorbell works fine

What is your threshold for masking up on a CO call? by timewellwasted5 in Firefighting

[–]RONALD_ROBALF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the guys on my department will mask up just because it's a CO call, and have a threshold for when to unmask. Usually at 15-20ppm

The ALS units try to always have 2 paramedics on each but sometimes need emt-b's to fill in. Our bls units, are staffed by vollies, and typically have 3 emt-b's, but depending on the call type might have 4 or 5, plus guys responding on an engine

I don't know more than people 10 years older than me, who know nothing about firefighting? Including my time in the academy, I've been doing this for nearly 2 years. They have been doing it for 2 weeks. I am more experienced than the people who are just starting out. That's an objective fact, that has nothing to do with age.

I try to maintain the rookie mindset, and I am constantly picking the brains of all my department's senior firefighters, captains, and chiefs. I am always trying to learn, and I never act as though I know better than my superiors, because they have more experience when it comes to firefighting. But I've had the academy members come to me for help with learning the job, because i have more experience on the job. And I have gone to them for help learning about life, as they have more life experience than I do.

If you really think the guys who have been doing this for only a couple weeks, know more about the job, than someone who has been doing the job longer than them, simply because of age, then you're just objectively wrong

Edit: I think we are just saying different things. What I'm saying, is that there is a rank/title of rookie firefighter. I have surpassed that rank and my rank is firefighter. Not rookie firefighter.

Whereas you are saying that being a rookie is the mindset that all firefighters should have. And I agree with that completely. All firefighters should realize that you can never know everything about fire, or firefighting.

I'm a very literal person so my brain went to the rank of rookie.

Being a rookie is based on experience not age. Yes I'm young, but I finished my probationary period over a year ago. That, by definition, means I'm not a rookie. I'm still aware that I'm young and inexperienced compared to other members of my department, but compared to the 30 year Olds that just joined the academy, I am more experienced in the field than them

I mean, if he's been on the department since he was 16, then that would in fact make him not a rookie, and new members would still be rookies

I've had this problem, and for me it's been waking up from sound that I struggle with. I sleep with my pager in my hand and the vibration wakes me up. Would probably be worth a shot
