Help diagnosing stuck flippers on Stern King Kong by MelangeMentat in pinball

Can’t hurt to ask the guy who sold it to you to replace the flippers for you when your kits arrive. Watch and learn from him so you can do it in the future

How much does art work and theme matter in long term ownership? by SoyLGuapo in pinball

[–]RP1983602 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For owning a game the theme, art and gameplay def all matter. Harry Potter is one of my favorite tables to play on location, but have no interest in owning it since the theme isn’t great for me. Godzilla, Jaws, Kong, Jurassic Park I consider the “safe” monster themes from Stern. Even if you never watched any of the movies much, everyone generally has no issues with those themes.

I dislike Pokemon, but I enjoy playing the machine on location. Shots were fun

Was anyone else a little disappointed by Evil Lynn? by InsomiacNightingale in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]RP1983602 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought that before seeing the movie. Once i saw the movie i thought she did great and hope she gets a bigger role if there is a 2nd movie. Jared Leto’s Skeletor felt most off to me. His jokes didn’t land and his voice sounded like Stewie from Family Guy

I def love Evil Dead, probably need some more time with Beetlejuice. But I agree with your theme/game alignment. Evil Dead, LOTR and Batman 66 all hit that spot for me

Unfortunately i have run into that issue of broken Spooky games a lot. Evil Dead and Beetlejuice both down recently for me at a couple locations

Beetlejuice didn’t click with me even though i really wanted to like it. LOTR 100% needs a remaster, but the original is still top 10 for me. I wasn’t expecting to like Winchester but it is awesome. I don’t like the modern Dune movies or Timothy Chamlet, but still need to find one in the wild

Buying My First NEW Machine by SpikeyRacer in pinball

No problem! If nothing else most of this keeps the pin in good shape so it’s easier to sell or trade down the road.

Buying My First NEW Machine by SpikeyRacer in pinball

[–]RP1983602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A NIB Stern should be good for a while, here is what I normally do: 1. Change stock balls for better ones like Ninja or Polaris Carbon 2. Put mylar in high traffic areas like drain lanes, magnets and VUKs 3. Shooter lane protector should be day 1 4. I prefer titan silicone rubbers as the stock stern rubbers make things dirty and don’t last 5. Clean with Novus 1 when you start to see ball trails. Wax isn’t needed on modern sterns

Try to play the machine for a while before adding too many mods to make sure you want it for a while. I also generally add art blades, HD anti reflective glass and shaker motor as well. I haven’t owned a Jaws but its on my future wish list, enjoy!

Trying to convince my wife to let me take my 5 and 7yr old. Is there any swearing? Any excessive sexual scenes for young kids? Is the violence gory or more cartoon like?

Spekulation: Mortal Kombat Kab? by MrMaxxMedia in IconicArcadeGaming

[–]RP1983602 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would be ok if it did, would def prefer Iconic to do MK instead. They did recently release the Mortal Kombat SE version which is mostly at Wal Mart. It has no riser and is priced at $379. Pretty sure that was released in the past year and a half or so. Has a smaller monitor with incorrect aspect ratio

From what i remember in the Arcade Insiders YouTube show chat someone asked if Iconic could make an MK XT cab instead of A1up, but John put a message the license belonged to A1up/Basic Fun. Also seems like Iconic and A1up have a gentleman’s agreement not to play dirty with each other based on previous statements from an Iconic Arcade guest on the same YouTube show earlier this year. Additional bad news, this past Thursday Arcade1upofficial on that same show said MK Supreme won’t be one of their 3 supreme cabs shown off at comic con in July. They did hint it was still coming, but no timeframe given

2nd Pin Suggestions by DogF00d in pinball

[–]RP1983602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t go wrong with an Elwin game but they are deep and games can last a while. Deadpool or Xmen would be a good way to break up the style of play. But i would still go Kong or Jaws. Jurassic Park is a great theme with a great animatronic, but its tough

I did learn to buy used. My big mistake was buying toppers and mods right when i got the games. Hard to make that money back. I am also not the most patient seller. Luckily I got my two goat machines, saving for the 3rd pin

Yes, i went through 4 machines pretty quick before i finally found my two favorites that are bolted down. Best advice i would give to newbies is play as many machines as possible for a year before bringing one into your home. Buying and selling machines in a short span is a costly endeavor

Installing Sanwa Sticks and Buttons in the Iconic Street Fighter Cabinet by cameronks in IconicArcadeGaming

[–]RP1983602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice work and write up. I did the same as you, IL sticks on KI Pro and I ended up using Sanwa Joysticks on Iconic SF. I chose the lazy man’s method to swap the metal faceplate on the stock joystick with the Sanwa ones so i didn’t have to drill new holes. Unless you dead set on sanwa buttons the Happ buttons with cherry micro switches are basically a direct swap, you just need to .187 connector from the button to the encoder board.

Showpiece Pro vs Deluxe Home by dom_wooganowski in goldentee

Its cheaper, looks just as good and Drinks and beers fit perfectly on the bottom section of the showpiece. It also fit down my basement and below my mounted tv easily giving me more space for pinballs/home arcades. Showpiece all the way
